Yeah it is kind of pricey, which is why I have only had it for special occasions, mostly birthdays and initiations.

I've tried all three of the varieties, and all three are good. The Double Bock is the best of the group - it packs a punch (9.5% alcohol), but it's very rich and has great deep flavors. It's one of the best beers out there, period.

The Imperial Stout is next best, with a good balance of chocolate and coffee flavors. It's a good solid stout, and again (over 9% alcohol) packs a punch. It's not quite as rich as I had expected, but the flavors are still solid.

The Imperial White ranks third, and isn't nearly as good as the others. I'm a big fan of white ales, but this one seemed to have a bit too much sweetness. When combined with the strong alcohol content (over 10%), it combined for kind of a weird flavor. I found it a lot more comparable to a Barleywine ale than a white ale, which was surprising and a bit disappointing. I mean, I like Barleywine ales in certain circumstances, but I would have expected Sam Adams to put out a better white ale, especially for such a limited release.

Rogue Dead Guy is pretty incredible, and harder to find than you would think. You really can't go wrong with any of the Rogue Ales - Rogue Chocolate Stout and Shakespeare Stout are among my 3-5 favorite beers (along with Old Rasputin Russian Stout, Fin du Monde, and Ommegang Witte).

Midwest people - anyone a fan of Leinenkgel's Summer Shandy? It's a bit bitter but not in an unpleasant way. I also like the Goose Island summer brew.

They're both very light ales. You definitely don't want "a porkchop in every bottle" in the summer.

I feel like I should add that they're both a little girly but I've seen men enjoy them, too.

I'm pretty open-minded and will drink whatever I'm in the mood for unless I'm on a tight budget; then it's all about the $5 pitchers for me! :) I am an equal opportunity lush with love for beer, wine, and liquor, but I really enjoy learning about the different types of beers and tasting new ones! :)

Guys definitely like Leinenkugel - I'm a fan of the Sunset Wheat, which is just about all they have of it out here in the Northeast. Solid, easy to drink, a good summer beer.

Tucher Helles Hefeweisen. Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

I really want to try Rogue Chipotle Ale. I've had wines before with a hint of jalapeno flavor (a sauvignon blanc) and I loved it. I just wonder if the chipotle flavor is overwhelming or subtle in the ale. Anyone ever tried it?

I think I must the opposite of a beer snob. I'm about the only person I know who doesn't like Sam Adams beers. Wheat beers, summer ales, designer beers (especially with fruit or other things in them) -- they all just taste blech to me.

Give me a Newcastle, a Bass or a Moosehead and I'm happy.

I didn't find the Chipotle Ale overwhelming...I thought the flavor was subtle, but a bit jarring when I first tried it. It's a little tangy, but you don't get that tangy taste at first.

ETA: After reading this thread, I took a study break and picked up some Sam Smith Oatmeal, Fin du Monde, and Sam Adams Imperial Stout. I figured I'd need some good beer this week and next with all the school and work stuff I have to handle.

I tried the Chipolte Ale, I liked it, but I couldn't handle the aftertaste.

Spaten Optimator is my recent favorite :)

Spaten is definitely a solid beer - not one of my absolute favorites, but I've been known to pick up a 6 pack every so often.

I recently discovered a new one: St. Bernardus Abt 12 Quad. There's a local restaurant that offers this beer on tap, served in a cognac glass. ZOMG.

Yeah, anything with St. Bernardus on it is pretty incredible. I've had both the witbier and the Abt 12, and both are outstanding. I would say, though, that it may not be the best beer for those who are beer newbies.

You may have to shoot me a PM with the name of the place that has it on tap - I'd travel across the state for that.

I actually had it back in May. I thought it was delicious.

St. Paul Girl beer is my fav.

I haven't tried the Summer Shandy yet. I've only seen one store carrying it here in the Seattle area - only a handful carry Leinenkugel, and when they do it's usually Sunset Wheat and sometimes the amber. I love the Sunset Wheat.
