I agree. If someone was wanting to join my sorority then you need to be on point. I expect you to get to know us, and attend our events (all of them really) because this is when you get to know the actives as well as your pledge sisters. It also allows me as an active to see how well you would do as an active sister. Now it may not be that way for every GLO but realize that every GLO doesn't work the same. I remember this kind of thing came up with DZO when we had that thread going.

About Meena...nope, sorry. She has to go. She has made no effort whatsoever to get to know anyone (active and pledge alike), she is very nonchalant about the sorority period. And if you knew you got accepted to NYU then WHY are you taking time to pledge? This is Meena's last semester! Why do they need to talk to Meena at this point? What would they ask her? Her actions speak volumes to me.

That is so sad what someone said about Salina...I love her. I'd want her to be in my sorority. She has the most potential of all the current pledges...

I do hope someone sat down with Meena and discussed her priorities and time management, before she was depledged. Just a simple "We don't feel you're putting in enough time, you have far fewer points than any of your pledge sisters, and you're in danger of being depledged" would have done it. She was not putting in the time, and she wasn't making an effort to get to know everyone. When she got her big she said something like "Now I can really get to know that person." Sweetie, it doesn't work that way, you have to get to know everyone!

This is making me wish it were a little easier in NPC orgs to depledge someone or prevent her initiation. You can't really get to know someone in a few hours of rush parties. So you could bid a girl who turns out to be an ax murderer, a slut, a drug dealer... or someone like Meena, who has way too much on her plate already and can't fit in the time it takes to pledge and to get to know her future sisters. Forced depledging should be used only as a very last resort, though.

Also - I really hope Lynnise is first in line to take a little next semester (if she's not a graduating senior?) From what she said it sounded like she'd never had one...

I agree! They just kicked her butt off. Personally I think Lynnise was jealous that Meena was prettier than her, a lot prettier actually. *putting claws back in* Okay, I done being catty. But for real, they could have handeled it better. :D

I wanted to say almost the same exact thing about Meena. They showed her dressed up to go to a cultural dance when she was supposed to be attending either a mandatory meeting or activity. She was too involved in other things to get to know her "sisters-to-be" and to put more effort into pledging. In terms of her getting accepted to NYU and PLEDGING, I don't get that rationale at all. Well actions DO speak louder than words! The consequence was the booted her out of the sorority.

I like Salina too. Maybe all the "interviews" they've shown of her were filmed on the same day (even though they are edited to make us think she's commenting on several different things) and she just happened to be wearing a cute pink headband that day... Geez!

mmcat 10-11-2003 10:52 PM

salina seems so genuine. also seems to be well edited. look at those who they (the editors) may be looking at badly, the editors don't clean up any complexion oopsies.

VirtuousErudite 10-11-2003 11:35 PM

I think Salina is pretty sweet and I love the pink headband! But I wear headbands alot too.

MeLikey 10-12-2003 10:50 AM

Meena is just not making the effort at all. What really bugs me is how non-chalant she is, as someone else had said. She's just like oh yeah I can't make [said event] tonight, and I can't make next week's either because I have [1 of her many other commitments] to go to. If I was her, I'd be freaking out, trying to talk to the sisters and other organizations' supervisors trying to work something out. I remember that she said in the first show that yeah she's a senior, but being in a sorority is a life-long thing. Yeah, but didn't you realize this the other years you went to the school, before MTV came?

Also, I'm sure that Salina's interviews are done on the same day... she's wearing the same pink headband and black turtleneck in all the interviews... plus that's how The Real World and Road Rules confessions go too.

This season is a SNOOZE, and that has nothing to do with race. Those girls are boring.

Agreed.

If you played a drinking game and only drank when the Pledge Educator smiles, you'd still be sober by the end of the season! (not that I condone such games, you understand)

That woman needs some joy in her life!

mmcat 10-12-2003 11:13 PM

and yet in her mtv thing, she looked and sounded like a happy person.
god bless the editors for messing things...

it is kinda sad hearing how meena is all happy about the pledge class and how the girls are all happy about her getting into Harvard. then you see all the sorority sisters walking towards the house bringing the doom for meena. actually i thought that part was kinda funny.

Ok, I did too. Honestly, if I was an active, I would have asked her to leave too. Their halfway through the pledge program and Meena hasn't attended ANY event, gotten to know any actives, or sisters that live outside the pledge house. If I was that busy, AT MINIMUM, I would keeping in touch with Val (the pledge mom) and my Big Sis to let them know what's going on.

Remember their first pledge meeting? Meena didn't even ask as active or pledge what she missed. She just was like, "oh well".

Yep, I would have asked her to leave too.
