Well, I'm open for suggestions - are you coming to Denver for the GA this summer? I'll be there (I live an hour away) - we could work something out around a beverage or meal wager that way....ZAX

RACooper 05-17-2002 05:20 PM

I'm trying to make it to Dencer for the GA..... so a food or beverage wager might be in order :)

Celebrate good times, c'mon on! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/party/dance.gif

Yeah Red Wings! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/party/yelclap.gif

It was a really good game...and I was so happy to see Mac get his first ever career hat trick. This series is far from over, but I just hope they come out with the same energy they had in the third. My gut instinct is Wings in six (2-1-1-1-1), but we'll see. Let the octopi fly high!!! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rotwerd.gif

Great game today in the east semis. I almost want to see an original six final the more I watch but we shall see. If the wings take game two, that series is over.

I am starting to take a lot of crap everywhere for being a wings fan for about 10 years than getting disgusted with them.

LeslieAGD 05-20-2002 10:12 PM

Well, that was a disappointing overtime goal, but a great game overall. I was just happy to see Maltby score! Can we have goal #3 officially credited to Patrick "Wah"? That was classic!

Thrillhouse 05-21-2002 12:15 AM

Could it be that the 2002 stanley cup champions (oops getting ahead of myself) could unravel and lose this series? I sure hope so, the wings outplayed colorado yet lost at home no less.

Ex Greek, I don't understand how you could have been a fan for ten years and then just drop your team. You talk about bandwagon fans, but you only stuck with them when they were playing well so what kind of fan does that make you?

It has been hard but I have had it. I don't like the yankees much and thats what the wings have turned into. They are making hockey into a joke even though luckily the devils and avalanche have been winning. Illitch has been kind enough to open up his checkbook to get whoever he wants the past 8 years. The fact that almost everyone is a fan since 97 makes me sick. Its not the kind of fan following that canadien fans have for their teams, its called liking the team of the moment. Most people don't even know who they played in 95 western confrerence finals and don't understand the chicago-detroit rivalry. It's like hello, back in the day, the wings and blackhawks were THE rivalry for the wings. Now I am a very educated hockey fan but not a fan of any particular team.

The wings weren't playing well in 92 when I think they got swepted by Chicago that year. Only liking the team when they have played well? Tell me...when did you start being a fan?

LeslieAGD 05-21-2002 10:27 PM

Ex Greek: People with your attitude drive me nuts. As I said before, I started watching hockey at 13 (1993). I can't control the fact that I started watching as they were getting to be a better team. Just because people begin watching when a team is popular, it doesn't make them a bandwagon fan...they are only a bandwagon fan if they could care less about the team when they're loosing. The Wings have a very big following (not only in MI, but all over). Are some of these people bandwagon fans? Yes, I'm sure some of them are, but the Wings don't have a claim on BW fans. You also b*tch about the fact that the Wings have only won two Stanley Cups since 1994, but so have the Avs and they're the number two team. The Avs have a big budget and a pretty padded team...why aren't you ripping on them? Why is all the abuse heaped onto the Wings?

Side note: Yea Carolina :)

The avalanche are stacked much like the braves, kings (nba), etc. Not the best team but pretty close. The avalanche have a ton of homegrown talent so they haven't needed to go out and spend quite as much as the wings have. The avs were the better team probably once since they got their team in 96 and that was last year.

I think the NHL needs to dramatically change how they do things. Maybe they should have a salary cap or something but there are about eight teams tops that have a chance at any good free aganets. The wings are tops, followed by the avs, than about 6 teams follow them than there are the rest of the teams. I put the wings tops because of how hull, robitaille, and hasek all jumped at the chance toplay there. The wings do have it made....Hasek was sold on the fact that the wings were gunning for the win.

I still have watched the wings nearly every game in the playoffs. Think of the fans in Major League Baseball who criticize their team constantly yet still go to every game.

Side note, that was cool that Carolina beat Toronto on the road. The canes going to the cup finals would be like washington going a few years back. I could see the wings scoring 5 on Irbe in a 4 game sweep.

For some reason, it seems as though we're saying the same thing, yet still arguing. It's not as the the Wings can be blamed for players wanting to play here. As you said, look at Hasek...he could have been making more in St. Louis but he wanted to be here for the Cup. It's not always money, it's reputation too.

I think a lot of people underestimate Carolina. Yeah, they'd most likely go down against the Wings or Avs, but I think they'd put up more of a fight that Washington did. I like watching them play. :)

All I can say is...HELL YEAH! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/happy/xyxthumbs.gif

Actually a lot of the radio people today were saying the wings were due tonight. When your scrubs on your team are Brett Hull and Robitaille, you know something is up.

I agree with Bill Clement last night too...this does nothing to tarnish Roy's legacy at all. Farve had 6 int's last year in one playoff game, things happen. Roy never had to play a team like this years wings team before and a job well done for him to stand up and single handidly keep the avs in it for as long as they were. I have always been a Roy fan so I had to defend him:)

When I said "No one could have predicted a game seven like this," I meant that no one could have anticipated a 7-0 win for the Wings. I had faith that my team was going to win, but a seven goal shutout even had me watching utterly amazed.

I am so happy I don't have to hear about Roy and Foresberg every five seconds anymore! Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye! Enjoy golf season...we'll send you a postcard of us with the cup. :)

Yeah, the best team won, with a game like that what did they do...slack off the first 5 games of the series? I kept telling everyone before the game last night that the series should have been long done.....also Leslie who do you think the wings will go after next year?

I heard if Hasek retires, they'll do anything they can to get CUJO from toronto. Fedorov is a free agent and yzerman could retire on top. They could have another spending spree in the offseason.
