I have 3 tattoos. 2 are sun like tribals. one has a japanese symbol in the middle and is the godsmack sun. the other is my own design, and has PI K A in the middle. and then i have a tribal band around one arm. but that is all that i am getting. i think.

valkyrie 03-13-2004 02:26 PM

Lady Pi Phi, I vote for the tribal design. :)

It symbolizes a person's spiritual growth, eternal life and never ending love. It's black, pretty small, very simple and it's on the small of my back right above my butt :)

here's what it look like for those who don't know what a trinity knot is:

Hate to tell you, since I'm sure you thought you researched your tattoo carefully, but you've erred. It's actually called a Triqueta, and is supposed to represent the three levels of being, physical, mental and spiritual, or the three parts of man, the heart, the brain, and the body.

And you have it upside down, there should be two points on the top on an even level, signifying that the mental and spiritual supercede the physical.

The love knot has four points, and the triqueta wasn't called a trinity knot until AFTER the change to Christianity, as everything important was just changed to something more "Christian" as the pagans were converted.

I have this tattoo, approximately an inch above my tailbone (right side up, of course), it's just one of the four that I have. Two five-pointed stars, one on each hip bone, and an actual love knot on the back of my neck near the hair line.

for the past 3 weeks now i have been thinking about getting a tattoo. i was close to getting one last week, but the tattoo place i went to didn't open until 45 minutes later. the guy told me that i could look around, i did and then decided to leave (yeah yeah...i chickened out, plus i didn't want to be there by myself :p). my friend said that she would go with me to the person who did her tattoo for a cheaper price. the one i want looks like this

I did it!

I went on saturday to get it done but they were really busy so I made an appointment for sunday afternoon.

I ended up getting a star and the tribal design. The the star is in the middle with a symmetrical design on either side.

It's so cool. I love it and the artist did a really great job. It's on my lower back, under the one I already have there.

But damn, it hurt like a mofo! The most painful of all my tats. But it only took about 25 minutes. Well worth the pain.

Pictures to come soon. I promise.

Back in college I wanted to get my letters on my ankle but never did and I am kind of glad, because I think a 30-something mom in a sophisticated dress at some classy event looks kind of silly with a tattoo on her leg. BUT that said I still kind of dig "hidden" tattoos. I LOVE Paris Hilton's....she has that little tiara on her hipbone....how perfect. I could see myself with one of those. When my mom died I though about getting a little peach tattoo because Peaches was the nickname my best friend and I gave her but I never did it.

i did get my tattoo.....can't remember if i posted about the final decision or not. i went to the tat place and tried to find the symbol i wanted ("mourned loss"), but i couldn't. i was able to find, however, 2 symbols that when combined mean "sorrow".....since i got it on the 3 yr anniversary of luke's death. it's a meaningful tattoo to me, and i am glad that i got it. i also got it high enough on the bottom right side of my back that it's not always showing. more of a personal thing than something for show. never year i think i'll get "hope" underneath it....maaaaaybe.

ETA: link to my tattoo pic is here...just go to the "my photos" album....it's in there.....i don't think a direct link works....

I just got a sun with a Xi in the middle on my ankle a couple of months ago. IT'S ALREADY FADED. Talk about upset... I need to go get it fixed.

That happened to me. The artists didn't do such a great job. I had to go back and get it touched up. They still didn't do a great job. I guess that's why they are no longer in business.

on the right side (kinda like the heineken star- but that kind of green) when i was in dublin- its freaking so cool and i love it- but it definately is fading more than i thought it would- which is a bummer... i haven't told my mom yet- so hopefully she won't notice till the end of the summer.... she's going to freak... lol

All tattoos will fade. If you expose your tattoo to the sun frequently it will fade quicker. I have a tattoo on my right foot and try to cover it with sun block when wearing flip flops. I haven't seen that it has faded much since I've had it.
