That was also not a coincidence. :)

As for the rest, she's in a different thread than we are. The turn of this thread wasn't about having a job and being able to have a job. Why would it be? Only an idiot (yes, an idiot) would think this is a thread of people who are slamming the employed.

Uh...for starters, not all of us are unemployed. Uh...for runner ups, MysticCat and others have already explained why Kevin was called an asshole.

This isn't an advice thread. This is an asshead, judgmental people thread. Haven't you noticed?

My face at this ENTIRE thread.

OK...here's my advice to the currently unemployed:

Keep the faith, stay positive, and keep your networks and options open.

Keep your resume` (or c.v.) updated and email it to people who may be "in the know" and send it to different employers.

Worse comes to worse, there are a lot of jobs where you can bust your ass for about $10 an hour without benefits and end up struggling at the end up every month despite working double shifts.

I hope none of you found this "no shit, sherlock" or condescending to a group of college-educated (and beyond) people who consider themselves hardworking and nonidiotic. The minion als463 wanted me to post advice that all of you know already. :)

HEY! I didnt say you were stupid or a dumbass (though you do tend to agree with and have the same morals as someone that could be considered stupid or a dumbass, but I'm not calling you that), I'm just saying you can only read the lines, not whats between them...

A far as race, I'll admit, maybe I did read more into what Kevin was saying than there really was...I'll take the slap for that.

Please go back and read what I wrote, and then you tell me.

Xp2k bringing "race" into the discussion doesn't exactly "help" the situation, either. Maybe instead of posting snarky comments, certain people could discuss what they think would HELP people.

Ok, what I think would "help" the situation is if people understood that having a job isnt as simple as wanting one (as studies show, since there are more people out of work than there are jobs) and that removing unemployment will do more harm than good.

Well, posting advice is much better than going around and telling people that their accomplishments mean nothing because they were hired after graduating from college, when people are upset they can't get jobs.

As far as calling me a minion, I could say the same about you and some of your "followers" as well. It seems that, lately, if I say something that upsets some of you and your "friends" you all "follow" each other and start name-calling or harassing because someone has a different opinion. It is like the pot calling the kettle black, in this situation. Don't try and use words like that to talk down to me. I'm very intelligent and I don't need some random person, who doesn't personally know me, try to act like they are above me. I've talked about what I've done in life, as a means of showing that there are options out there, yet you refuse to discuss what kind of careers you have had. Then, you proceed to talk to me like I'm a moron.

Are you employed? Don't talk to me like I'm a moron. Just because I don't buy it that people who are truly looking and willing to take whatever comes their way, still can't find a job, does not mean I lack logic or empathy. It means that I am realistic about the options out there-that some people are taking advantage of.

There is a difference, between people on Welfare (who may have never worked a day in their life) and people on Unemployment (who may have paid into that pot of money). Let me say that I don't see anything wrong with collecting unemployment. What I do have an issue with is people who live off Welfare OR Unemployment for a substantially long time and then complain that they haven't found a job. I have worked for everything I have. My parents didn't pay for my college. My parents aren't college educated, and yet they (like me) didn't have a hard time finding a job. Don't pretend that everyone on Unemployment is out there looking for a job or that they may not be just turning their noses up in the air to things that don't "suit" their needs.

Don't post to me again until you plug your brain up.

I don't care, but thanks for putting way too much concern and effort in this. As you always do.

The funny thing is that you and the rest of Kevin's minions think you're the only ones in this thread who take note of this.

Like I said pages ago, I feel sorry for anyone whose brain is stuck on this basic understanding and can't go deeper than this.

deepimpact2 03-11-2010 12:52 AM

This is just so unfortunate.

Her imagination.

It would've been funnier if she had called me someone's minion.

I apologize to anyone who gave a darn about this thread and wanted to continue the original discussion. It's more entertaining this way. :)

That may be the case. I can honestly say that for once I don't think this is the case though. Kevin just appears to have a general disdain for people who are not in the same financial category as he. That applies to all races.

You are right, it is so much more entertaining now. Now, you can ruin another thread with name-calling, instead of discussing the topic at hand. Don't pretend that this thread was on topic before I posted. As soon as Kevin agreed with the topic, he was a "horrible" person, remember? It is "unfortunate" that there are people out there like me and Kevin who think some people just play the system, I guess-right?

It is sad and disturbing to me that you think everyone who is in this position is in the position of being unemployed (and I don't mean subbing as a teacher because that is a job and I respect those who are willing to do that) because it is hard for them to find work. Okay. We can all sit here and pretend.

It is like Kevin asked earlier, when do people start to take responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming other people for their problems? If it was up to you and your "minions" we would feel sorry for every person who was too-good for flipping burgers, joining the military, going back to school, mowing lawns, etc.
