Hmm...I'm sitting here with my Green Book (2005) right now, and it doesn't outright say that you can't forbid a chapter to recruit. There are various clauses that say that probation or infraction can't be punished in a way which would negatively affect a chapters quota or total. (It's under the Penalties section of the Judiciary section of Unanimous Agreements).

Of course, I'm quite new to the Green Book, having only received my copy from Panhellenic in December. Where's PenguinTrax?

gatordeltapgh 02-12-2009 03:08 PM

You are correct. Any penalty from a judicial hearing can not affect the chapter's ability to take quota to total so I am not sure what is happening in this case. NPC is also recommending that mediation be the first attempt in resolving campus issues.

The MOI was updated in Jan 2008 with changes to three important sections. You can buy the updated one for only $25 at www.npcwomen.org

AOII Angel 02-12-2009 03:34 PM

One thing I have noticed is that despite what the unanimous agreements are, school administrations can enforce their own rules.

MaggieXi 02-13-2009 05:13 PM

Elon - Quota was 36, I think all groups mad quota, many groups took quota additions. Rumor has it that the only PNMs that were not matched were those who ISP'd.

They prohibit using this as punishment for a rush infraction.

I have always thought that the rule was that a sorority couldn't be punished by being forbidden to participate in ANY form of recruitment (formal or COB).

A sorority can be prevented from participating in formal rush if Panhellenic votes to do so, since it is a Panhellenically run event; however, they cannot prevent them from informally recruiting.

Thanks, 33girl. I suspected as much. However, I don't think it is fair that the NMs effected can't be initiated. It's like they're being punished for being hazed. This wouldn't encourage me to come forward if I was a NM being hazed.

Phi Mu recruited it's first Phi Class for the colony at Elmhurst College. They have pledged to above chapter total of 65, but I do not have the exact number.

And I'm pretty possitive that one of my friends is in that group. If the rest of the colony is like her, it should be an awesome group of girls.

Hofstra University Results

Spring - Formal Recruitment (similar #s to past 5 years)

# of women signed up for recruitment 109

What was Quota 10

Number of women each group recevied throug bid matching:
Alpha Epsilon Phi- 8
Alpha Theta Beta- 2
Alpha Phi- 10
Phi Sigma Sigma- 5
Sigma Delta Tau- 7
Delta Gamma- 9
Delta Chi Delta- 1
Delta Phi Epsilon- 10

There is a local on suspension this year who I think comes back in the fall. They normally take quota.

Cornell Spring Recruitment

Quota was 43 as mentioned by the AZD1997 poster

Alpha Epsilon Phi:
Alpha Chi Omega:
Alpha Phi: 45
Alpha Xi Delta: 33
Delta Delta Delta:
Delta Gamma:
Kappa Alpha Theta:
Kappa Delta:
Kappa Kappa Gamma:
Pi Beta Phi: 45
Sigma Delta Tau:

I will try to get the rest of the #s but I would guess most chapters made quota+; 45 is a large NM class for Cornell--I think something like 700 potential NM signed up for FR, and with AOII closing :( there are only 11 NPCs on campus (we had 13 when I was at CU)

They were initiated. This article was published before the Alpha Phi International worked with the University adminitration and the chapter. Our chapter has a long successful history on this campus and will continue to recruit the best and the brightest at Tufts in Fall 2009.

That's great! I'm always a little dismayed when sanctions penalize the people effected by hazing. I'm glad A Phi will be back in good standing soon!

cali_gossip 03-09-2009 12:47 AM

Cal State Northridge-24 new baby turtles through COB! Normally we get like 8 or 9 in Spring so we're super excited and love them all! :]

AimHigh 03-09-2009 01:35 AM

Adelphi University had a quota of 14 this semester for Formal Recruitment.

Phi Sigma Sigma's Epsilon Chapter took 14 amazing new women.

This was our first formal recruitment and we couldn't have been any happier.

LaneSig 03-27-2009 12:46 PM

Some colony updates:

The Phi Sigma Sigma colony at Sacred Heart University pledged 47 women.

The Zeta Tau Alpha colony at University of Rhode Island pledged 92 women.

Irish...just wanted to let you know...that first of all, I am so appreciative of your information about the history of sororities at the University of Miami (FL). I was at UM in the early 80's and AEPHI closed their chapter circa 1985. I think your list indicates they are active. They have not been active in years. In fact, DG, ADPi, DPhiE, ZTA, KKG, SDT, and DDD are the only sororities at Univ. of Miami. Not a very strong Greek system as far as sororities go.

Chi Omega Closes at Nebraska - Kearney (Low Numbers)

Sad news:

http://eleusis.chiomega.com/news.asp...ngIotaZeta.xml

Excerpt:

[I]With great sadness, the Governing Council of Chi Omega Fraternity announces the closing of Iota Zeta Chapter of Chi Omega at University of Nebraska at Kearney effective April 27, 2009.
After several years of decreasing membership, the chapter finds itself with too many chapter responsibilities and too few members to sustain operations. Membership in Chi Omega is for a lifetime. Therefore, our collegiate members have been given the opportunity to have alumnae status in Chi Omega. . . . [/}
