I live in Nashville and just had to take a number to get gas, which was given to me by one of several gas station attendants manning the pumps while police directed traffic. THERE IS NO GAS IN THIS CITY! This is where I draw the line! If people do not get out and vote and realize that these gas shortages are more about middle eastern foreign policy.

New McCain add...Racist?

Now, everybody wants to play "The Race Card" like its the High joker and we're playing spades, but this is a bit much.

http://livesteez.com/videos/watch/fsQQFcQ

Its a new McCain camp add against Obama. The add would make sense IF and only IF Raines was Obama's advisor. He was not. The actual Fannie Mae guy who worked with Obama was white. The add is racist, bump what some people want to say in defense of it.

Seriously? Please stop it!

In a video posted on YouTube, the Dallas forward is shown at Allen Iverson's charity flag footballgame in July. When the national anthem is being sung, Howard says, " 'The Star-Spangled Banner' is going on. I don't celebrate this [s***]. I'm black."
It didn't take long for Obama enemy number one, Rush Limbaugh, to jump in and use it as fodder on his radio show yesterday, according to Eurweb.com.
"You heard it, Obama '08. So here's an Obama supporter, another one, in addition to Reverend Jeremiah Wright saying God bleep America," Limbaugh told his audience. "This man has become wealthy in this country, Josh Howard has. And, by the way, it's not just black athletes. There are certain black singers who are refusing to sing the national anthem at black events. They're singing the [black] national anthem, whatever that is."
http://www.livesteez.com/news/news_detail/1168

All these so called "Patriots" and "real Americans" who are running around talking about how great America is because Howard can even make the comment and how soldiers are dying so he can say what he wants are getting on my dayum nerves.
If I have freedom of speech let me use it. Do not try to crucify me when I say that I could care less about the Star Spangled Banner and that I happily stand and sing along to the Negro National Anthem ("whatever that is") with my fist in the air. And don't get mad because I do not say or respect your pledge. I am American and as such I have a right to NOT say or do whatever I want.
And please don't get it twisted soldiers are not dying so that I have freedom of speech. They are dying because we have a government that is run by an idiot who believes it is his destiny to control the world.

And one more thing...Why is what some random athlete says all of a sudden political news?

SummerChild 09-20-2008 02:32 PM

I was reading your post and it just struck me as odd that some will try to judge whether others are patriotic. What is the true test of whether someone is patriotic?

For example, if my ancestors built much of this country using nothing but their bare backs, strength and grit, and they did it for FREE; if my ancestors got eaten up by dogs, hosed with water, etc. to promote the ideals that are embodied in the rights in the constitution in AMERICA, am I not patriotic if I criticize the country. Do I not have the right? Ok, tell you what, just give me the money that's owed to my ancestors for all that free labor that made some of the majority population in this country wealthy (or at least gave them land and a start in life) and we'll call it even. How about that? Oh, and can I get the money with interest?

I'd better not hear one person call someone unpatriotic around me. The main ones calling someone unpatriotic are NOT the ones who built this country with their backs, had their families ripped apart for its southern economy, and did all that FOR FREE.

Now THAT'S patriotic!

I did not get a chance to watch the 60 minutes feature with Obama & McCain...did anyone catch it?

Is it on Youtube? I've found that to be a very good source for whatever I miss on TV. Usually, the taped version is on You Tube.

...to the GC lawyers

I received an email asking that voters not wear any candidate paraphernalia to the polls when they go to vote. The suggestion was that paraphernalia (T-shirts, hats, pins, etc..) would be seen as "campaigning" and be grounds for polls workers to legitimately turn people away.

I'm aware that people working on behalf of candidates (passing out literature, etc) cannot be within a certain radius of the polling place, but had never heard this extended to the average person who might be wearing candidate paraphernalia.

The e-mail was from a bruh, so I know it wasn't sent to to turn people away; rather to help ensure that people aren't turned away.

Any GC attorneys familiar with election law enough to weigh in on the validity of this?

Attorneys aren't going to give you advice online, but if you're concerned, I would call the Attorney General's office or the Office of the Secretary of State in your state. Those would be the first two places I would think of if I thought there was some sort of voter or polling fraud.

WenD08 09-24-2008 03:32 PM

according to CNN: mccan't is asking the debate be postponed. he is wanting to "suspend" his own campaign to work on the economic issues at hand. he feels the issues plaguing the economy are more important than this debate.
anyway:rolleyes:, i am hoping the Obama campaign doesn't fall for this mess and continue as scheduled. according to the polls, he's doing well so he shouldn't let the momentum stall...

WenD08 09-24-2008 03:34 PM

as far as wearing election 'nalia to the polls, do check w/your state. in MD, voters can wear t-shirts, buttons, etc. to the polls. poll workers cannot.

"If a voter is wearing any clothing with the name, image, logo, slogan, etc. for any candidate or party, tell the voter to go home and change their clothes."

These are politicians so it's wise to treat all of this with some level of skepticism. Consider:

What has changed in a week since this crisis reached this level of national exposure? Both candidates campained all last week as negotions took place, neither, apparently, in a Senatorial leadership capacity on the issue.

What, specifically, is gained by postponing Friday's debate and suspending the campaigns? And if it's something more than a symbolic gesture, then why was it not proposed a week ago, when the crisis hit the melting point?

Given the lateness of the party conventions, and the compression of the presidential and vice presidential debates, I don't think a postponement is a good idea. Have the debates as scheduled, fly back and cast the vote you need to cast and keep going.

jitterbug13 09-24-2008 04:30 PM

These people are starting to get crazy.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080924/...D3.tZG_1xvzwcF

I was talking to a coworker (who supports McCain, BTW) and I had to break it down to him that they hung the cutout from a noose and that's really upsetting because of the past, etc. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it. at me.

And I don't think Obama's going to fall for McCain's newest trick.

WenD08 09-24-2008 04:59 PM

Barack Obama stated in his news conference that the debate should go on this Friday. the Univ. of Mississippi, where the debate is to be held, said as far as they're concerned, the debate is still on.
that being said, i will be watching the debate on Friday (i'm such the political nerd:D)

SummerChild 09-24-2008 08:32 PM

Tony,
I don't know the answer to your question, as noted it appears that it may depend on the state.

The safe thing to do is to simply tell everyone not to wear paraphenalia.

Not only does that make it safe, but it keeps "others" from mysteriously not finding your name on the rolls. We have had too many problems in the past to run into an argument at the polling location. Why? B/c by the time we find out that you have been disenfranchised, it's too late.

Tell people not to wear paraphenalia and let's keep it safe. Let's get Obama in office. We can throw on our t-shirt when we get back to the car.

I do not see prudence in getting into a debate with a polling person on the day of elections - even if the would-be voter is right about being able to wear paraphenalia.

Sure, we can take off our t-shirts and come back if we are turned away but how many people won't come back? How many will be on their lunch breaks and unable to get back before the polls close b/c they work 3-9pm?

And what if you are right? What are you going to do, whip out a copy of the regulation at the polling location? If the head supervisor does not agree with you, you might go get the police or somemthign but I don't really know if they can enforce your right to vote at that very moment in time. You could sue later but by that time, we'll have lost the election to that old fool. The best you could do is get pissed off, change your clothes and come back ... and report the whole thing to the Rainbow Coalition or something. Think of how many people are registered whose names are removed from the rolls? What can they do? And they did everything that they are supposed to do. At that moment in time, they can do NOTHING.

Don't risk it. Keep the para in the car for the afterparty later that night

SC

In Texas, yes, you can be turned away at the polls if you are wearing a particular candidate's paraphenalia (i.e., buttons, stickers, T-shirts, etc). Before law school, I worked on a city council campaign and work my candidate's t-shirt to a poll. I was asked to cover the shirt up before I was able to cast my vote.

Good debate!

I'll be watching next week's debate between Biden and Palin. This should be INTERESTING...plus Gwen is moderating. :)

Did anyone else notice the complete lack of respect by John McCain? He completely DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT OBAMA! In addition, what is with the old white man condescending "He doesn't understand" ...b/c he is too stupid......

And Obama...stop saying, "I give McCain credit...."

Honeykiss1974 09-27-2008 09:41 AM

/\/\/\ I watched the debates on ABC and that was the FIRST thing Charlie G. and George S. said when the debate was over! They said that unlike McCain who just stared at the moderator, Obama was very engaging, both with McCain and to the audience/camera.

My stepdad and I just talked about this a few minutes ago. And there were times when McStiff spoke and Obama was like "I got your number!" :D :p

And I think Obama wanted to show respect of McCain's service by giving him credit, but at the same time showing the American public that what he's been doing hasn't worked.

The pundits are saying that there is not a clear winner. But the undecided viewers who were polled for CNN and CBS both say that Obama won. :D

mccoyred 09-27-2008 01:33 PM

McCain absolutely HATES Obama with every fiber of his being! If he could stand on the capital steps at high noon and give Obama a piece of his feeble mind he would....

Overall, I thought Obama won the day. McCain could barely contain himself while Obama was as cool as a cucumber without being cold. McCain did put Obama on the offensive early on but Obama rose to the challenge and used McCain's own words and record against him. Obama demonstrated his thoughtfulness and planning whereas McCain continued to show that he shoots from the hip; frankly, I am not sure how being a maverick can be a good thing! McCain did close slightly stronger, though, however, I believe that Obama won the day overall.

Its funny that all of the polls that I have seen of VOTERS show that Obama has won but the pundits are split!

Must See TV!

I think something will go wrong with Trigger (the baby with DS) or some other great family emergency so that she can pull out of the debate. I mean if she can't take on Katie Couric then she has no chance at Joe Biden. I'm thinking that she must be playing dumb so that voters will have low expectations of her and when she debates and seems to know a little bit people will be impressed. I think this will work for decided Republican voters, but for everyone else...not so much.

I know the pundits are all split as to who won the debate, but am I the only one who heard John McBush say:

"By the way, North Korea, most repressive and brutal regime probably on Earth. The average South Korean is three inches taller than the average North Korean, a huge gulag."

After talking to different people to try to understand this comment I am assuming that what he meant by the height difference is that the more developed the nation is and the better off the people are the taller they are on average and S.Koreans are 3 inches taller than N.Koreans so N.Korea is therefore greatly oppressive. This is a huge streach for me. Considering the fact that the question was: "Senator McCain, what is your reading on the threat of Iran right now to the security of the United States?" this really made NO sense.

The height difference many be true but it most likely is not related to the regime change which only happened after WWII. Evolutionary changes take time to develop; something so dramatic is not llikey to have happened in the short span of 2 generations.

If anyone has some research or background on this phenomenon, I would love to hear it.

So does anyone know what he meant by this?

Anyone who thinks that McCain won the debate was clearly fooled by his twisting of every comment made and flat out lying. I've never seen someone get so far off topic during a debate. This wasn't even a debate this was Obama presenting his platform and plan for presidency and correcting the confusing accusations and lies McCain spewed.

EX: Obama's comment about pre-conditions. Kissinger did say that he would support talks without pre-conditions which was Obama's point. McBush tried to make it appear that Obama said Kissinger agreed with direct diplomacy. Obama never said it.

Expectations are so low for her, just showing up will guarantee her at least a tie! I did see an interview that she did with Charlie Rose last year where she actually appeared coherent, witty and funny.

I think the chick is currently on uppers or something. She is just too cheery and glassy-eyed yet she looks tired in still photos.

The VP debate is scheduled for this Thursday at 9 pm. I think it will be quick and painless for Sen. Biden, but long and extremely painful to Gov. Palin. This will either make or break McCain's chances.
