Audisha? Infinitanya? Something!

I just read Infinitanya as Infinyata, which seems like it could actually be a name.

My eight grade teacher brought her year book to school one day and it had first middle and last names printed in it. One girl's name was Ginger Bread House; know who does that?

A girl I interned with was called Sunshine Daydream... hippie parents anyone?

No way! I can't believe Mirko bought your house. Small world. That guy used to terrorize me in high school. Now we have several FB friends in common and he seems to have turned out to be a decent man.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted in here since I started subbing! I can't think of any "normal" names that send up red flags for me. I have seen some weird ones:

Pocahontas
SoFine
Pebbles

I love it when people get mad at me for pronouncing their name wrong when it's a name I've never seen before (and it usually isn't even spelled that way).

Don't have time to read the whole thread but here are my thoughts:

Jesse James (boy have I seen that several times on criminal history records)

Heard this great advice once somwhere...

If you are thinking of naming your child, open a window and shout "Can xxx come out and play" and see how it sounds or the responses you get from your neighbors.

Austin
Landon
Bryson

My child naming days are over, but I will haunt my children like a wicked conscience if they try to use these names for my grandchildren.

Someone very close to me has one of those names and I used to hate it. It seriously took me a while to not be disappointed that was his name.

Note my earlier comments about constantly having 6 Austins in in-school suspension last year, haha.

Not a teacher, but a camp counselor. I once had a camper named "Araya". Fellow staff and I stared flabbergasted at it all week. One day for an "ice-breaker" discussion we had kids go around and share their middle names. This girl, who I might add has BRIGHT red hair, proudly said: "Sunshine!" A-ray-a Sunshine. I still don't understand it. Other favorites have included Knox, Cannon, and Zulema [zoo-lame-a]. I'm also get a kick out of the parents who try to take the big names and make them unique with spelling. Hence how you end up with an Aidan, Aydin, and Aidon all in one cabin.

About "remixing" popular names: My g-daughter had a Halloween party and invited guests from school.

One little girl's name: MacKaylee.

Another parent complimented her on it and she mentioned that she could not choose between McKenzie, McKayla, and Kaylee. So they combined all of them. Wow.

Is that how you pronounced it or the child? Zulema is actually a popular Hispanic name, but it's not pronounced in that way...more like "sue-le-ma." So i'm just wondering if they just tried to anglicize the pronunciation or if that is how they meant it.

I know a lady named Marijhuana Brown and I've encountered a woman named Klamydia once. I lol'ed on the inside when I found out their names.
