The way the media is these days, the best thing to do might be for y'all to just pretend this never happened and further refuse to talk to anyone about it except to say that you weren't involved and that you hope justice is done whatever that is.
The media machine must be fed for it to keep going. You stop feeding it and it moves on to the next story (unless you become important enough for them to start to generate their own conduct, a la Scott Peterson). |
A few new stories and view points:
Weber says he wasn't told of feds on campus May 10, 2008 San Diego State University President Stephen Weber was unaware federal agents were posing as students to crack a campus drug ring until about two weeks before the end of the five-month undercover effort. Weber said yesterday that he didn't learn about the federal role in Operation Sudden Fall until April 21, shortly before the yearlong investigation culminated Tuesday with the announcement of 96 drug-related arrests that included 75 students. By the end of the week, the District Attorney's Office reported those numbers had grown to 125 total arrests, 95 involving students. Weber didn't notify his boss, California State University Chancellor Charles Reed, until Monday. .......... http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/m...-1n10sdsu.html The Family of Purported SDSU "Drug Kingpin" Speaks The family of the man at the center of the SDSU drug ring speaks exclusively to FOX6 news. Almost 100 people were arrested Tuesday, 75 of them SDSU students, after a six-month investigation that was prompted after a student died of a cocaine overdose. During the investigation, another cocaine overdose death occurred at an SDSU fraternity house....... http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/news/...n-crimes-sdsu/ Drug arrests are busting up SDSU's rep A university is a brand, complete with an image that it sells to potential customers. Well, it's damage control time. San Diego State's brand suffered a major disaster Tuesday, when "Operation Sudden Fall" caused the national image of SDSU to suddenly plummet. Anytime CNN, MSNBC and every major news outlet plasters a university's name across their front page as headline news, that's a huge problem. Make no mistake about it: Not all publicity is good publicity. The students who chose to deal drugs out of on-campus fraternity houses, using their connections within the Greek system to build a network of customers, just devastated the Aztec brand..... http://media.www.thedailyaztec.com/m...-3367243.shtml BTB: What happened with the IRC meeting/report from the other day. Why is this news? This article seems like one big spoon full of bullshit. "We have active alumni at our house frequently so our members aren't involved in criminal activities." Give me a f-ing break. |

Another group of SDSU students arraigned in drug sting
SAN DIEGO – Another group of San Diego State University students was arraigned in Superior Court Tuesday on various drug charges for their alleged roles in a campus-wide drug-trafficking ring. Eleven students and two non-students, all males, all pleaded not guilty to charges ranging from sales to possession. ...... ......... Another student, Nicolas Ghosen, 22, came up with a detailed business plan to run part of the drug operation out of the Theta Chi fraternity, Tafreshi said. In a letter to another suspected drug dealer, Ghosen proposed pocketing 10 percent of future sales if he provided bodyguard and bookkeeping services. Agents found the letter in a shed behind the fraternity house along with several hundred baggies of cocaine, razors, spoons, marijuana and a loaded handgun. ........ http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/m...-bn13sdsu.html |

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jack Beresford San Diego State University marcomm@mail.sdsu.edu SDSU Lifts Interim Suspension on Three Fraternities SAN DIEGO (Thursday, May 15, 2008) – San Diego State University has lifted the interim suspension from three campus fraternities, the university announced today. After a review of case details, SDSU Vice President for Student Affairs James Kitchen lifted the interim suspension from the Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Alpha Mu and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternities. The suspension was lifted after an administrative review found that those arrested in connection to the controlled substances investigation were either inactive members of the fraternity and/or were not presently residents of chapter houses. The three fraternities had been placed on interim suspension based on each having a single member arrested on felony charges. However, the university review found that there was not sufficient information to implicate the fraternity chapter as a whole. Three other fraternity chapters, including Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Psi and Theta Chi, are still on interim suspension pending further investigation by SDSU administration. For more information on the controlled substances investigation at SDSU, please visit www.sdsu.edu/information. San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region. Since it was founded in 1897, the university has grown to offer bachelor's degrees in 81 areas, master's degrees in 73 areas and doctorates in 16 areas. SDSU's more than 34,000 students participate in an academic curriculum distinguished by direct contact with faculty and an increasing international emphasis that prepares them for a global future. Wow, can you even imagine working in the SDSU communications & marketing office these days? They must be in overdrive 24/7 right now. I noticed this logo on the investigation information page:
http://advancement.sdsu.edu/marcomm/...erThanEver.gif And then this press release about their new message/p.r. push. I give them a lot of credit and hope they get big bonuses or extra vacation time when all of this eventually calms down: http://advancement.sdsu.edu/marcomm/.../pr051508.html |
There is a full page ad in the SD Union Trib today with a list of supporters of SDSU and how it's handling the situation.
"We alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends at San Diego State University support the university and its leadership in taking a stand to ensure a safe campus environment. We would expect nothing less of a top urban research university. SDSU, we are prouder than ever." you can go to www.sdsu.edu/prouderthanever and add your name. |
Should it be "More Proud Than Ever"? Is "Prouder Than Ever" proper English?
