clarinette 04-18-2012 09:49 AM

That's fantastic! I'll keep you all in my thoughts while we have our sisterhood event that day!

unarose 04-18-2012 10:14 PM

YAY, ALUMNAE GROUP! :)

Assuming FedEx gets the pins here in time (and they should, since Asheville isn't that far from here), we'll be initiating 4 wonderful MITs on Friday night! :)

A belated congratulations to your chapter, unarose!

We're starting to do our senior stuff, and I'm getting really sad. Two of the girls have really become my close friends, almost secondary big sisters. I'm going to miss them terribly. :( I know they're going to be awesome in the real world, but it's not the same as seeing them every day.

^^^^I cried like a baby during my senior commitment. And, it started while we (the seniors) were standing in the hallway waiting to clasp in.

Look on the bottom right of page 4 in your April 2012 copy of the Tempo! There we are!!! By 12pm, tomorrow, we will officially be an alumnae chapter of SAI and the ONLY active one in our state!!!

clarinette 05-06-2012 10:44 AM

Fantastic! I'll keep an eye out!

AlwaysSAI 05-10-2012 07:02 PM

The Atlanta Alumnae Chapter has a member named Betty White. I couldn't help but chuckle.

clarinette 05-11-2012 12:04 AM

:) hehehe

I saw the little blurb about your chapter being formed. Wish there could've been more room to talk about your chapter installation.

AlwaysSAI 05-13-2012 08:54 AM

^^^^No, no! That was just the announcement.

Look for an actual write up (with picture, hopefully) in the next Tempo!

clarinette 05-14-2012 12:03 AM

Oh, okay! :) I just got confused, then.

Dual Membership Question

Hello ladies :)

I'm new to GC as well as a newly initiated SAI at my university (just a few weeks ago!!) <3

I don't mean to hijack this thread since it is full of so much love and roses and happiness and such, but I was wondering if any of your collegiate chapters were/are members of your University's Panhel Association. Our president was approached recently by the Greek Life Office about our chapter becoming a member of our university Panhel Association as an associate member, but has not hashed the details out yet/committed to anything, etc.

I think joining Panhel as an associate member could be beneficial, but we have two concerns if we were to join Panhel:

1) Would our chapter of SAI have to conduct formal recruitment the same way NPC sororities do? (as you ladies know, it wouldn't make sense for SAI to conduct recruitment the same way as NPC sororities)

2) There are many members of our chapter that have dual membership in SAI and an NPC sorority. A couple of SAIs in my pledge class and I are also considering pursuing NPC dual membership next year as sophomores. Would becoming an associate member of Panhel exclude us from this opportunity, or force my sisters currently holding dual membership to relinquish one of their memberships? (This is the bigger concern of the two)

Any input from personal experiences, speculations, etc. are more than welcome :) Again, sorry for hijacking this thread!

My chapter was not an associate member of Panhellenic, but there are some other special interest sororities that are often associate members of Panhellenic. How formal recruitment is handled for your SAI chapter would be figured out by the school. I know some special interest sororities are associate members of Panhellenic and don't participate in Formal Recruitment, but do get to participate in things like Greek Week and Panhellenic Council. Other special interest sororities may participate in Formal Recruitment, but will only invite PNMs to second round that meet membership requirements. For us, that would be the one music class. (I'm pretty sure Alpha Omega Epsilon is the special interest sorority that is often an associate member of Panhellenic.)

This one I am not sure about. I know it is allowed to be an NPC member and an SAI member. Many sisters, including myself, hold double or triple memberships. The trick would be if being an associate member of Panhellenic would some how negate the National regulations because you would technically be a member of two organizations in the same Governing Council. That is a very good question and one to figure out before your chapter makes a decision. It would be difficult if sisters who already hold dual membership would be forced to choose between the two. But, again, I am just shooting out thoughts here--I have not be in this situation.

Welcome to our circle of sisterhood! I hope your days as a collegiate member are filled with sisterhood, love, and music.
