No Restraining Order The judge refused the GBN senior's request for a restraining order which would allow her to go back to school while the issue made it through the courts. All three cases were before the same judge, so it looks like the suspensions will stand. |

Charges Word is that misdemeaner charges will be filed against 15 of the students at 10:30 a.m. CDT today. No charges related to buying the beer are expected today. Police are still investigating. Today's Tribune reports that parents of the suspended teens are arranging an alternative prom for them to attend. GBN's prom is tomorrow, extra security will be in place. |

An alternative prom??? Give me a break! Half the people there are going to have criminal records by the end of today anyway. Way to slap your kid on the back and go, "I know you didn't MEAN to put shit in her mouth...." Here's something interesting- These incidents have all been in the news in the past week. The cities involved aren't close to Northbrook, they're suburbs on the northwest, west, and south. The hazing was obviously a lot worse, but it just proves my point that kids can turn into animals anywhere. I saw a story about 50 to 100 teenagers trashing a home of a family that was away on vacation. Apparently, they drank and partied there for three days and nights. The family said that personal items were stolen including clothing, jewelry, and guns! They showed the house on GMA after it had be partially cleaned and it still was a wreak. WTF is wrong with people?! |

While I'm fiercely protective of my children, and will go to great lengths to fight for them if I think they've been wronged(assuming they let me), I expect them to behave. When they don't, there are consequences. Despite the pretty pink (unreturnable) dress hanging on her closet door, my daughter would not be going to prom if I witnessed her behaving on tape the way those girls were. If she'd wiggled out of an expulsion the month before (like Marnie Holz did), she wouldn't be going out to play "football" with her friends in the first place. These parents are too busy trying to be their kids buddies, not their parents. The parents probably need to deal with self esteem issues as much as their kids do. They want their kids to be in with the in crowd--along the way they fail to provide them with a moral compass. The alternate prom really makes me angry! |

I would hope that enough concerned and angry citizens are able to protest outside this alternate prom - with plenty of media coverage. |

Latest news from USA Today: Students to face hazing incident charges CHICAGO (AP) — A dozen girls and three boys accused of participating in the brutal hazing of junior girls from a suburban Chicago high school will face misdemeanor battery charges, prosecutors announced Friday. John Gorman, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney, said the students — all 17- and 18-year-old seniors — will be charged as adults in the May 4 incident. The investigation is continuing, Gorman added. The students are accused of participating in a melee in a Cook County park that was captured on videotape. Glenbrook North High School senior girls are shown on the tapes beating juniors and covering them with mud, paint, feces and garbage in what was originally supposed to be a "powder puff" football game. Five girls ended up in the hospital. Misdemeanor battery charges carry a maximum sentence of nearly a year in jail, Gorman said. The school, in the affluent suburb of Northbrook, has suspended 32 students who officials claim took part in the hazing. Although the event was off-campus and not sanctioned by the school, officials have said state and local school codes allow the 10-day suspensions. Principal Michael Riggle says the school is recommending the students be expelled. Expulsion would bar them from the campus and school activities such as prom and graduation ceremonies, although they would still receive a diploma. Some students have filed lawsuits to overturn the suspensions. Others are going through the school's appeals process. Northbrook police continue to investigate whether any adults provided alcohol for the event. |

Fox News was reporting that many of these girls that have been accepted to the University of Illinois may have their applications withdrawn, pending new review of their applications. Haven't heard about ISU, Northwestern, or any other schools to follow up on this. |

I am starting to feel bad for these girls if this is true. I don't think that they realized the ramifications and consequences of their actions. I am not trying to minimize what they did at all. I just think that this should have been handled within the school before the hazing ever occured. The whole situation could have been prevented if someone from the school had said, "We know this hazing occurs. If you haze, you will be punished by the school and possibly prosecuted criminally." Instead of nipping this situation in the bud, this has escalated to a point where their futures are in jeopardy. This is what happens when you don't teach the concept of actions have consequences. If it is true about the parents having an alternative prom, these parents are just condoning their violent actions. If they had been punished for smaller offenses, they might not have escalated to this level of viciousness. Of course a 17 or 18 year old is responsible for her and his own conduct and behavior. It just seems that they were not given the appropriate parental guidance. When I was a child, my mother was strict, very strict. At the time I resented it. Now I understand why and appreciate it. |

Seriously though, I hope this is a lesson they learn...(which I personally think everyone should learn eventually).. although they probably won't learn anything if mommy & daddy come to their rescue even if they were beating the crap out of other girls. |
