This isn't status update related really, but I am so tempted to start a group called:

I Can't Believe My Friend Is __________

If your previously normal friends have turned up in groups WAY to the left or WAY to the right as far as religion/politics are concerned, if they are fans of music you consider reprehensible, or if you never realized how ghastly their spelling and grammar was before the advent of Facebook, join this group.

With the way that Facebook has united people from WAY back (i.e. haven't talked to each other since high school, middle school, or even grade school), I would bet that you'd get a heck of a lot of members to that group.

I guess that's what a UCF education does for you :P

If she can't even spell sorority she needs to get her Greek Card taken away.

Not to mention the other grammar issues.

Okay, admittedly the grammar and spelling are spot-on, however, this is just totally obnoxious. The following status updates have run in the past week or so, not coincidently at the exact same time as some SEC recruitments. This individual has friended over 1000 people, including many college freshmen. BTW- This is an alumna with grown children… not someone who just graduated 3 months ago.

Alumna: XYZ is FUN! Every year, over xxx undergraduate women across America join XYZ for fun and lifelong friendships. XYZ offers a home in your new college environment and a place to make your mark on the world. You will make a difference in XYZ. XYZ will make a difference in you. 8/8/09

Alumna: XYZ alumnae and collegiate chapters across the nation have raised over $xxx for [philanthropy] during the past school year. Over xxx volunteers dedicated more than xxx volunteer hours to help make wishes come true. This brings XYZ’s total support since the alliance began in xxxx to more than xxx million dollars. Congrats to XYZ and [philanthropy]. 8/12/09

Alumna: During college, you will grow academically, attend social functions, contribute to your community through volunteer service, and have unlimited leadership opportunities. The experience of being a XYZ will prepare you to flourish during college and beyond. As an alumna, you may join any of XYZ’s xxx alumnae chapters across the country and beyond. 8/13/09.

Alumna: XYZ is the [deleted] women’s fraternal organization in the world with over xxx initiates and xxx collegiate chapters. 8/16/09

Alumna: Welcome to the XYZ Sisterhood –[Girls first and last name] and [Girl’s first and last name] ! 8/18/09

In addition, she has posted multiple links to the national website, facebooks groups, etc for XYZ.

At least it is all spelled correctly.

Wow. Well at least she is involved.:)

pshsx1 08-20-2009 03:37 PM

Geez. I think I'd avoid the GLO with the crazy alum who friended me...

I had 2 SigEps friend me before I started college (for 2 different reasons) and there wasn't one 'OMG PURPLE AND RED JOIN JOIN JOIN' post from them. I only got info about the Fraternity if I asked..

She doesn't have grown children. Otherwise you might have been on to something...

Another "non-grammar" one:

I just saw an old friend's page. This guy is in the same industry and is extremely intelligent. However, he's changed his "info" to read:

Activities: XYZ Fraternity, Leadership Council, Honors Club, and [girlfriend]
Favorite Music: [girlfriend]
Favorite Movies: [girlfriend]
Favorite Books: [girlfriend]
Favorite Quotes: [girlfriend]
About Me: [girlfriend]

Seriously dude?

Maybe [girlfriend] did that?

Can you PM me her name? When I googled this wording, a chapter's fan site came up.
