Oh, okay...here's one...

Allie Simonds, one of our founders, was not known as an artist, but she did illustrate a book written by Univ. of Arkansas professor Jerome McNeill entitled: REVISION OF THE TRUXALINAE OF NORTH AMERICA. What was the subject of her drawings?

a.) carnations
b.) grasshoppers
c.) owls
d.) lobsters

xo_kathy 03-17-2005 01:38 PM

I'm going with B - grasshoppers!

I googled the word and found it listed on a website outdoorbooks.com/bugs
They have an author signed copy for sale!

NutBrnHair 03-17-2005 02:50 PM

You are correct, Sister Kathy! (The book you saw on the website for sale was recently purchased and is on its way to the Chi Omega National Archives!)

You are right, oncelurked! (Since Mercer is my alma mater, I had to sneak that in there!)

FYI: Pat's first victory at UT came against Middle Tennessee.

oncelurked 03-23-2005 04:45 PM

You're full of interesting XO trivia =)

That's pretty interesting about Pat Summitt's early win/loss history, too.

Bed space

How many beds are there upstairs at the Chi Omega Executive Headquarters in Memphis?

a.) 4
b.) 12
c.) 18
d.) there are no beds

http://www.chiomega.com/chiomega/abo...hq-present.gif

xo_kathy 03-28-2005 01:52 PM

When I was there I specifically remember a room with 2 beds in it. And I'm sure there were more than 2 rooms...And I think they said all the chapter visitors stayed there for training...therefore,

I'm going with 12!!!

NutBrnHair 03-28-2005 03:24 PM

Oooooo...so close. No, there are 18 beds. (6 bedrooms...3 with 4 singles & 3 with 2 singles.)

NutBrnHair 04-05-2005 01:12 PM

Happy Founders Day!

True or False

There are no known pictures of the five founders of Chi Omega together.

xo_kathy 04-05-2005 01:57 PM

I'm going with true because I don't ever remember seeing one in my pledge manual or on the website...

NutBrnHair 04-05-2005 02:02 PM

You are correct! (Isn't that wild --?)

Sorry, OL...close, but no cigar! Kappa Sigma gave the bust to the HQ in 1995 to celebrate their member's (Dr. Richardson) role in our founding. They also generously presented one to Psi Chapter at the University of Arkansas.

Why was Founders Hall never built on the campus of the University of Arkansas?

a.) Due to the cost it was never built. Instead, the funds accumulated were used to help build the Greek Theater in 1930.

b.) The University did not approve of the plans & would not sell the necessary land.

c.) After World War I began, supplies were scarce.

d.) The Governor of Arkansas had a disagreement with Dr. Richardson, so the plans were called off.

oncelurked 04-13-2005 02:20 AM

I'd like to guess B

And I'd also like to guess that since founder's hall could not be built, we "donated" the greek theatre.

Am I anywhere near right?

NutBrnHair 04-13-2005 11:04 AM

OL, you are close...the answer is A

Founders' Hall was not built, due to the cost. The funds accumulated were put toward building the Greek Theater on the Univ. of Arkansas campus in 1930.

Notice the similarity of the architectural rendering of Founders' Hall and our current Executive HQ in Memphis... The picture of Founders' Hall was not found until AFTER we moved into the new HQ in 1994! All were stunned by the similarity of the architecture.

NutBrnHair 04-13-2005 11:11 AM

Which of the following is a true statement for a typical year at the Chi Omega Executive Headquarters in Memphis?

b.) 1,000 meals are served
c.) More than 15,000 pieces of mail leave the building
d.) More than 2,800 packages are shipped by Chi O Creations
e.) All of the above

OtterXO 04-13-2005 02:59 PM

I would guess E, all of the above!!!! Speaking of which, I need to visit headquarters at some point...hmmmm

NutBrnHair 04-13-2005 08:58 PM

All or Nothing

And you are correct, my friend! (You know I love those ALL OF THE ABOVE answers!)

chi-o_gurlie08 05-04-2005 02:20 PM

Hi all!
Wow. This is my first ever post! Okay, I just wanted to respond to the convo going on earlier in this thread about letters.
I was just pledged this (Spring 05) semester (NU THETA) and we were given Bid Day shirts with letters on them. This is the only letter item we were allowed to own (other than new member pin). We were allowed to borrow letters from other Chi-O's. The reason we were not allowed to own them was out of respect for our future BIGs because you never know what they want to buy you or what they have already purchased....After BIG LITTLE we were allowed to buy our own stuff.

I'll say c.) One. It's located on the first floor because men are not allowed upstairs. ;) OK, I am in a silly mood.
