"Hi I am new to GC, but thought I would post my recruitment story. I am a little nervous for recruitment because neither of my parents were Greek. Here is a little about me: I was home schooled, didn't have much time for volunteer work, but I did manage to win a gold medal in the Olympics. My school has 8 chapters, but if you know which one, don't tell... I am trying to be discrete." In all seriousness though, good for her. She sacrificed her youth to follow her dream and perhaps she is just looking to be a "normal" 18 year old now. I wish her the best at SMU, and hope that daddy's expectations can "simma down" a bit. |

she is pretty wonderful;) I think the houses would be fighting over her! |
I remember reading an article (that I just can't seem to find right now) that Nastia Liukin was teased in elementary school because of her name. "Nasty" was what all the little brats called her.
Shawn Johnson is a great athlete, no doubt about it, but IMHO she lacks the grace that Nastia had. One announcer mentioned that she has her dad's athleticism and her mom's grace and beauty, and she was really a delight to watch. And her poor mother -- she couldn't even WATCH! No helicoptering there! |
It was so great to see the girls both take home medals with Mary Lou Retton in the building. That was a moment.
I also heard that Nastia is going to SMU this fall. She's probably going to keep training, so she'll most likely be too busy for a sorority. Although Courtney Kupets went AOII at UGA when she went to college after the Olympics, so you just never know! |

And Courtney is an AOII legacy. Her mom is an AOII from Indiana State. Courtney's sister Ashley, also an elite gymnast and Gymdog, did not go Greek. |

Still, he's just absolutely delicious, and that laid back attitude when he speaks is just rawrrrrrr. I used to fall for guys like that when I was in college. |
So they were showing the end of the doubles badminton competition. It was Korea (I think) v. China for the gold. I was thinking, why are the Korean players girls and the Chinese players males? I assumed it was because badminton must be like equestrian - one of the few disciplines not separated by gender. Well, WRONG. China won and they announced that they had just won the women's doubles badminton gold. So, the gymnasts are really underage and the badminton players are really men I guess.

Why is NBC showing the same thing that I stayed up til 1:30 am to watch last night??? Why aren't they showing anything except beach volleyball, swimming and gymnastics??????????

I just watched this on DVR about 2 hours ago (and fast-forwarded through the commercials) |

Beach volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming (and diving) are my favorite parts of the summer games so I am really happy with the TV line up. Plus, it's all about ratings and those events are the most watched and requested. Track and field events start tonight or tomorrow so those should be in heavy rotation now. |

I've heard Anastasia pronounced so many different ways: Grand Duchess Anastasia pronounced it the French way (Ann-ah-stah-cee-ah); my ggrandmother pronounced it the American way (Ann-ah-stay-sha). We only know about my ggrandmother because one of the clerks for a record wrote her name as "Anna Station"! |
