I love this idea!
I would have gone with: Kappa Kappa Gamma - I love how the name sounds together and the key symbol is so adorable! The girls in Kappa at my school are unbelievably sweet and I loved them during recruitment. Zeta Tau Alpha - gorgeous colors and I love the crown motif! Plus their 'crown' hand symbol is so cute. Alpha Phi - the house I would have joined had I not found my heart in Tri Delta. My Aunt is an Alpha Phi and she instilled my love for the Greek system. Their philanthropy hits close to home for me and was something I would have supported relentlessly! But ∆∆∆ takes the cake for me! :) |
I love this!
If I was not a proud Gamma Phi I would be a ..... AOII, they just recently colonized on my campus and I loved everything about them. I love the open motto the ladies picked, "Live simply. Love Always." or Kappa Delta, just because! |

Awww...how sweet! Kennesaw love! |
I am such a happy & involved Pi Phi...but Kappa would be my second choice.
|
Kappa Delta: Every one I've ever met has been a class act...love their colors, symbols, philanthrophy, everything!
Sigma Kappa: Love that they stay true to their Maine roots w/a philanthrophy to support rural Maine Islanders. Phi Sigma Sigma: The girls at my school were so fun and enthusiastic about their sisterhood. Also love the symbols and their involvement with the National Kidney Foundation. Delta Phi Epsilon: Love the colors and the fact that they are involved with eating disorders as a philanthrophy...so relevant to college-aged women! This is fun! When I think about it, there's something I like about every org. So I should probably stop now ;) |

I meant to do this ages ago and I"m glad my original choice would still stand.
If I wasn't a Delta Delta Delta I'd say I would love to be a Delta Gamma. I love their anchor symbol (I'm from Rhode Island so I've always loved the anchor. I hope to get a tattoo son) and the courage&hope message. I met a lot of DGs at UIFI and they were pretty great ladies. I also really really loved Delta Zetas creed and how they do it in sign language. I almost cried at UIFI when I saw it. |
Love finding these old thread.:)
If I were to choose from the chapters that were present at CSULB in 1981, I'd go with Alpha Phi which was the other house that I'd preferenced. Their songs were so pretty and I really liked the sister that was there for me at the preference party. From the other NPC groups I'd choose the following: Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta and Pi Beta Phi because I have family members in all of those organizations and I admire their philanthropies. Plus I favor badges that are symbols (arrow, key, anchor, kite).;) |
Back in the day when I went thru recruitment, you actually received all your invitation and had to pick ones to regret if you had more than the number of parties. One of the criteria I used to choose was the badge design! Only interested in ones with symbols - arrow, anchor, key, etc) Ended up with the anchor but would have been happy elsewhere. I was only 17 - what did I know??? ( I also liked the antiques in our house! Esp the Tiffany grandfather clock)...

Oh, my! It was so long ago that I rushed it's hard to remember back that far! I was the most influenced by mothers of my friends, ladies in the neighborhood, and the ladies who were family friends. As my own dear mother had died when I was 15, I had many surrogates who stepped in. And for whom I was very grateful.
The GLOs I heard most about were Pi Phi, Tri Delt, and Chi O. I knew nothing about recs at that time, and it was considered very impolite to ask for even a "good word", but all the ladies in these three groups assured me that theirs would be ones that would be a good fit for me, ones that would welcome me, and ones my mother would approve of. My mother was a Phi Mu in the deep south but was relatively unknown in my part of the world at that time. So I didn't even think about Phi Mu. My very accomplished cousin had joined Theta, so I also kept Theta in mind. I never even thought about or considered things like the badges, colors, mascots and the like. All of these ladies were very helpful in helping me with where my focus should be. And as I admired and respected all of them, I was thinking that the active members of their GLOs would be very much like them. But alas!!! There were only six sororities in the university I attended and Chi Omega was the only sorority there that I knew anything about! But I loved Chi Omega from the very beginning and was thrilled that they offered me a bid. Since college, however, my very close friends other than Chi Omegas have been Tri Delts, Pi Phis, a Theta or two, ADPis, and many Kappas! ALL of the panhellenic women I have known as an adult, including alumnae of GLOs other than the above, have been terrific women I would be proud and happy to be sisters of. |
Very cool thread here...I'm glad someone resurrected it! :)
My love for Phi Mu just grows stronger with time, and at this point it's hard to imagine being anything else...but... If I was at a school with every 25 NPC chapter except for Phi Mu, I would choose: 1st Choice- Delta Gamma. I love everything about the nautical theme/anchors, the badge, the pink and blue colors, their motto "Do Good," the way their letters look and sound together (so silly, I know!), and their national reputation. I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in a Panhellenic event at their National Convention this summer and I was just blown away and impressed by this organization as a whole. 2nd Choice- Kappa Delta. This was the first group that I ever wanted to be a part of when I found out what sororities really were (junior year of high school, maybe?)-- there was a KD chapter at a small state school near my town and several of the older girls I really looked up to and admired had pledged KD at that campus. However, there was no KD at the school I went to, so I never had a chance to find out! That being said, every Kappa Delta woman I have ever known is like superwoman in her own way, and I think that is representative of their organization! Their badge is really pretty too, and I do like the combination of their letters together. |
