I'm getting uncomfortable with this thread in general. Everyone is talking about what sororities would be best to colonize there, the alumni support they have, when they could colonize, etc. Furthermore, all the talk that Alabama wants one new group and one old group to colonize is just hearsay but some people are taking it as the gospel word. I dunno...I just think it could be dangerous. It may ruin a group's chances at colonization before it even began if some higher-ups at Alabama saw the thread and thought to themselves, "Yeah, I agree that ABC wouldn't be a good sorority here because they don't have enough chapters in the state."

Expansion at any SEC school is exciting but speculating about any groups' chances before the school is even open for expansion (or heck, even after they're open) can really come back and bite the groups in the butt. It's happened before. GC is more widely read that you'd expect.

Can we stop the talk about what group would be best to colonize there? If and when it happens, it's ultimately up to Panhellenic at the University of Alabama to decide which group would have the best chance - not GreekChat.

Besides which, if the Bama panhellenic doesn't actually think of checking alumnae bases in the area, then our posting it on GC isn't going to affect them.

I would hope that UA Panhellenic would not be swayed by anonymous postings on a website. The discussion has been respectful, and it has been clearly stated that it is all hypothetical. As long as the discussion continues to be positive, I don't think it need be stopped.

I think they are fine institutions, but I was just thinking in terms of being a group who had never been at UA who does have a little southern presence, not so much that they would dominate, say, DG in alumnae power or support.

Actually not just in the south. Maybe not at your school, but the former educational sororities tend to be on a lot of the same campuses (many that were former teacher colleges, and others that are the size/environment where they tend to be very successful).

According to the Tri Sigma directory and the AST directory, we only share a campus at 2 colleges.

That's not a lot.

Do you mean in one particular state? AST and SSS share 53 colleges. 33 where both have active chapters, plus 7 where both were once active and are now dormant, 6 where AST has closed but SSS is still open, and 7 where SSS is closed but AST is still open.

where in the midwest are you talking about?...Clearly it isn't Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri...hmmm maybe Indiana??

Since you were questioning...Generally we prefer Tri Sigma or Sigma. not that it really matters. :p If you asked me if I am a Tri Sig, I would say yes and move on.

back on topic...

For the last coloniztions at Bama, did the university offer much help? Did any other GLOs on campus make any effort? This is such an undertaking for any organization.
