"Meals make the society, hold the fabric together in lots of ways that were charming and interesting and intoxicating to me. The perfect meal, or the best meals, occur in a context that frequently has very little to do with the food itself."

You can be angry. You have every right to get angry. But you must not be BITTER. Bitterness is like cancer. It eats away at the host. It does nothing to the object of your displeasure.- Marguerite Johnson

I don't know who stated this originally but....
"When attitudes are hostile; facts are unconvincing." I try to hold this especially to hy heart, because when I get upset you can really tell that I am. I try to get my point across even if my voice gets a teeny bit louder , but that only hames the situation worse and people don't want to listen if your voice gets a teeny weeny bit louder . |

I thought that it sounded like a nice quotable phrase sooooo . . . . . here it is :D " If you want it, you can have it. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. The first step to achieving success is learning to want the right thing, then being able to visualize it. Go ahead and use your imagination." Good one huh . . .yeah, I thought so too :p |
This was from one of my favorite shows, Designing Women (prior to Delt Burke leaving).
The Episode was "The Beauty Contest" [After Suzanne overhears a cruel comment about her, Julia defends her sister.] Julia: Excuse me, aren't you Marjorie Leigh Winnick, the current Miss Georgia World? Marjorie: Why, yes I am. Julia: I'm Julia Sugarbaker, Suzanne Sugarbaker's sister. I couldn't help over hearing part of your conversation. Marjorie: Well, I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone was here. Julia: Yes, and I gather from your comments there are a couple of other things you don't know, Marjorie. For example, you probably didn't know that Suzanne was the only contestant in Georgia pageant history to sweep every category except congeniality, and that is not something the women in my family aspire to anyway. Or that when she walked down the runway in her swimsuit, five contestants quit on the spot. Or that when she emerged from the isolation booth to answer the question, "What would you do to prevent war?" she spoke so eloquently of patriotism, battlefields and diamond tiaras, grown men wept. And you probably didn't know, Marjorie, that Suzanne was not just any Miss Georgia, she was the Miss Georgia. She didn't twirl just a baton, that baton was on fire. And when she threw that baton into the air, it flew higher, further, faster than any baton has ever flown before, hitting a transformer and showering the darkened arena with sparks! And when it finally did come down, Marjorie, my sister caught that baton, and 12,000 people jumped to their feet for sixteen and one-half minutes of uninterrupted thunderous ovation, as flames illuminated her tear-stained face! And that, Marjorie — just so you will know — and your children will someday know ---is the night the lights went out in Georgia! |
Freedom
This quote is from good old Abe Lincoln, as he made an address to an Attorney's convention in Baltimore on May 17th, 1865:
"When I hear a white man speak grandly about and argue for the importance of the existence of slavery, I quickly find the impulse to ask him to try on the shackles, chains and laurels himself, to see if he can find a peaceful home there" - Abraham Lincoln This next quote was one that I heard my high school football Coach say during a speech to us then Seniors as we met with him to sign our letters of intent for our college selections. The cool part is that our parents were there with us and our school made it a big deal and what not. This quote will stay with me forever. "Ego is clearly the world's most destructive and worst narcotic. It destroys a man without the use of anything tangible like a pipe or a needle, but the chaos that stems from it is greater in force than that of any drug that exist" - Coach Tom Page |
