If it's done simply by credits, that's weird. I had more than 12 credit hours prior to starting college after passing AP exams and CLEP exams. Would I then be eligible for NPHC membership as a first semester freshman? Hypothetically, of course!

depending on the org and if you met their other requirements, yes.

But then you would generally need to have a presence on the campus, which would get you overlooked by some since you were just a first semester freshman. A lot of us were eligible freshman year but I think it's a really good idea to wait (for whatever reasons you have to wait). |
2nd semester of my 4th year
|
Fall 1994, first semester of my freshman year.
Rush started before classes, but after freshmen move-in, but bid day was after classes had begun. |
I joined second semester of sophomore year (March 2004).
|
I joined Alpha Gamma Delta before I had even attended one class changed my major 4 times graduated 5 years later. Freshman year of 1997
I joined Alpha Phi Omega Spring Semester 1998 |
Second Semester Junior Year--January, 1995
(Unfortunately, that was the first time I was eligible grade-wise...a stellar student in undergrad I was not!!) |
Pledged SAI spring of 2006, spring semester, sophomore year with a class of 7 other women.
Pledged Phi Sigma Pi the following semester, fall 2006, fall semester, junior year with the Alpha Delta Class. Began as 25, but only 12 were initiated. |
Pledged my sophomore year, after transferring. I didn't go through rush at my first school because I was a DRAMA MAJOR and DRAMA MAJORS didn't rush. I had a friend who was a Zeta, and was going to go through informal rush, but then Chi O found out I was a legacy, and made some fuss about calling ZTA on rush infractions because of the time I spent at their house - it was a big mess, so I didn't go through my freshman year. I switched majors and colleges, and pledged my beloved G Phi B fall 1983 (I'll be a 25 yr. member in January!)
