Blondegurl,
I agree!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D |
YAY! Rush threads!
I feel old! The daughter of a pledge sister of mine from Southern Cal is going thru rush as a freshman at UGA in August  She is absolutely adorable!! I will be helping with rush at UGA as an alum so I cannot wait till she comes thru!! She would be an awesome Gamma Phi -- she is a double Gamma Phi legacy (mom and grandmom) and a Kappa legacy (other grandmom)
:D UGA rush starts 13 August and 1400 PNMs (for 18 sororities) are anticipated!!!!! By the way, I vote for rush threads with actual GLO names -- the numbers are too confusing to me too! But I agree that following the golden rule (as someone has already posted) and not saying nasty/negative things is the best advice! |

I agree with you 100%. I hate trying to figgure out who XYZ is! LOL I think if negative opinions are kept private I would love to know house names. But that's just me :D |
This old brain likes the use of actual GLO names, too! With so many PNMs going through, I think it will be easier to keep things straight. But . . . whatever makes the PNMs more comfortable it fine with me!

I'm a young brain and I like the use of actual GLO names. Can I help it if I'm an English major and my eyes glaze over everytime I see numbers?

You have to dissaffiliate because you're going to be a RA? Who made up this lame rule? It's not like you are a Recruitment Counselor, you are an RA! Boo on whoever made up that rule. |

Well, at my school, the RAs are also Orientation Counselors, and they have to disaffiliate during Orientation. There was an XYZ that has RAed the same floor for the past two years (it's a freshman girl's floor), and half her floor joined Alpha Phi this year, and I don't think any joined XYZ. She did a good job of representing Greek Life in the Panhellenic sense, not just representing XYZ. She would put up "GO GREEK!" on her whiteboard and put everyone's letters up. I thought that was totally kick ass of her.

Looks like we will hopefully have a TON of rush threads!
I'm still voting for numbers for the rush threads.. most of us use 'ABC' or 'DEF' or whatever when talking about other chapters on our own school anyway.. but that's just IMHO :) |
I'm not surprised that RAs have to disaffiliate. After all, RAs have just as much influence, if not more, over their residents as Rho Chis do over their rush groups. It would be frustrating to have an XYZ RA who's convinced all of her residents that the XYZs are the coolest before rush has even begun.
As we've discussed before, the use of numbers in rush threads is to protect the rushees from getting cut, not just to protect the sororities from having their feelings hurt -- so numbers are the safest thing for rushees to use. :) Of course they can use whatever they want, though. |
As a former RA, I have to say that disaffiliation is possibly one of the best ideas I have heard. Maybe it's different at my school, but residence life is a HUGE thing...especially those first few weeks. You go to your RA for everything, you see them everywhere before the upperclassmen get to campus--so they can be positively or negatively influential in a much more important way than a Rho Chi.

I was an RA at WVU, we didn't have to disaffiliate during rush. I had a KD sign on my door and everything. I had one girl on my floor go KD, one Alpha Phi one Alpha Xi Delta, one Sigma Kappa and one Pi Beta Phi-so we were pretty well represented Greek wise on my floor. My being a KD didn't influence anyone on my floor, they even said it was nice to know someone at a house instead of being totally lost in a room full of strangers.
It's also nice for the parents of the freshman to know that the responsible RA is a greek-helps get rid of the image of Greeks do nothing but party-hey look we are respectable members of society too! |
One of my sisters was an RA this year and next year. I'm not sure how she's going to approach next year since she just joined, but I thought she only had to disaffiliate during recruitment. I think it makes sense. Freshmen look up to their RA's (well, to a certain extent). It only makes things fair.

I've decided to give it a shot again, so hopefully I won't be "to be" for too much longer!
I emailed the panhellenic at my school and the girl in charge wrote back and was really nice and made me feel better about it. I looked at some outfits today at the mall. I have some nice black dresses, but last year during the second round I was at a party wearing a black dress that has some roses printed into it, that flows nicely and was surrounded by the sisters all in black, and while at the time I felt like I had belonged, I realize now had I been wearing red or something not so matching I would have been noticed more I think. Ah, 3 months from now it will be all over, I sure hope it's positive! I want to sing the little chant, and run down the hill into the sorority!! |
TBSG -- I'm so glad to hear you've decided to give it another shot! I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to hear how it goes for you :)
