Yes! Put a pair of glasses on Michelle, and you're exactly right!

I also considered the Michelle/Melissa resemblance. Michelle is on my last nerve already.

GeorginaDG63 10-02-2003 09:14 AM

okay so here is my solution...buy michelle a cute little bicycle...of course with a little rack for her books and little reflectors so when she comes home 3 hours past the time she said shed be home...no one will hit her on the streets...PROBLEM SOLVED hah.

i honestly have a feeling mtv said to these girls to create DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA...because if they didnt...these girls have serious problems...and yes i do say "girls" because that is what they are allllllll acting like...little girls...NOT sorority WOMEN.

SapphireSphinx9 10-02-2003 02:11 PM

OMG! I can't stand Michelle! She's just like Melissa from RW, just not as confrontational. She whines and cries over the stupidest stuff... And WTH is going on with the Land Rover? Why did she "steal" it, when she found out that Janelle wasn't home? What a crack-head! I seriously would have slapped her upside the head, if I was Janelle. Michelle annoys me.

Salina... She reminds me of a friend of mine. Have you noticed that in the confessionals she's dressed all cute and innocent, with her hair back in a pink headband and all. And then during the show it's like a total turn-around. I thought she was gonna jump Michelle, when she was in the hallway talking with that other pledge (carmen??).

Meena is not ready to be in a sorority. Honestly though, she's not ready for anything. Does she think that she's gonna be able to be on 3 dance teams and a softball team for the rest of her life? When you make a commitment to pledge an organization, you HAVE to make time... Don't assume that they will change everything for you. Yeah, she annoys me too.

Carmen's cute... It's sad to hear that she didn't make it. I hope it was on her, and not that she got cut. Maybe when she gets a lil bit more mature, she'll rush again. She just needs to know how to balance school and pledging.

I donno about everyone else. I definately think this season isn't as good as SL1... Didn't really care for SL2... But I watched it, because I watched FL1. Hopefully this one will pick-up pace.

Does anyone know how far it is between the pledge house and the USC campus? I know Cali is spread out, but why can't they walk or if it is too far, doesn't the school have some sort of shuttle bus? Or, God forbid, mass transit?

I know I'm talking like someone whose school was small enough to walk everywhere (which I did) but unless you are a commuter from a different town I don't know why you need a car at college every day.

When I was at USC, back in the dark ages, the university used to have shuttle buses, and even one to Westwood on weekends. Not sure exactly where the pledge house is.

And L.A. is the land of car culture. You need it everywhere. I didn't drive until I was a senior, and things weren't fun for me.
:o

aephi alum 10-02-2003 05:57 PM

The car thing... I thought all the house pledges except one had their own cars. Are they forbidden to use them? Were they forbidden to use them just so that this last episode could happen? And Val is right here, there's no reason the six of them couldn't have resolved the issue amongst themselves.

Was there anything preventing the other pledges from retrieving Land Rover #2 from wherever Michelle had taken it? (Other than not necessarily knowing where it is... but maybe they can install a Lojack? ;) ) Michelle could have then called for a ride.

I also don't get the business with Val docking points from the pledges because they were two minutes late, especially when the reason was that they were picking up actives! A catch-22: Give the actives a ride, be late, lose points - or don't give the actives a ride and have several actives PO'd at you. (Although... does giving an active a ride earn you points? Seems to me it counts as spending time with a sister... hmm.)

Meetings... has it struck anyone else that all these girls seem to do is go to meetings? Pledge education meetings, neophyte meetings, midnight missions, meetings about nonsense like the car situation, etc. Meetings : ZSPhi :: crafts : DZO?

Meena... seriously needs to sort out her priorities. If she were serious about pledging, she would have made the time. There are only 168 hours in a week, and studies + pledging + 3 dance teams + softball + things like sleeping and spending time with your friends > 168 hours.

One more thing I'm confused about: It takes a unanimous vote to get initiated. It also takes a unanimous vote to depledge someone. So what happens if the sisters are split, and some want a particular pledge to cross and others want her gone? Is she just a pledge for the rest of eternity, or what?

MeLikey 10-02-2003 07:39 PM

I too noticed the Melissa/Michelle thing. I also thought Val sort of looks like Coral from The Real World-- same features, but she's not as pretty.

Michelle is so inconsiderate. I couldn't believe her saying that it's not like they don't have their own cars and she's the only one without a car. So what? That's your problem not the other sisters. The car isn't just meant for you, it's meant for all of the pledges. And it was stupid how she took the car out again just because Janelle wasn't home yet, and went shopping(?!) when she said I'll be right back. Personally speaking, you never say you'll be right back when you go shopping because we all know that once you're in shopping mode, you will not be right back! Plus, when Val called her to come home for the meeting, it was 6:39pm and she was supposed to bring the car back so Janelle could leave for the game at 6:30pm. And she's so non-responsive when the pledges are calling her out on things, almost like she doesn't fully get it.

Ah....last time I checked, USC was located in a not-so-great neighborhood. That might be one reason to not want to walk everywhere. :o

I don't think that it matters that everyone else has a car. If someone gave me a FREE car to ride around in, why would I want to cause wear and tear on my car? I don't think that they would mind if Michelle used the car a little more than others because she doesn't have a car herself but when you leave out of the house at 8am and don't back home until 2am, EVERYDAY.... there is a seriously problem.

I thought they were more than two minutes late. Also the actives didn't make them late. They were late because THEY couldn't get things together. If they were more organized and knew where their sister was... they wouldn't of been late.

Well you know how MTV is with editing... they actually do a lot of community service activities according to their website.

I wouldn't doubt it if you don't REALLY have to get 2003 points to get initiated. It's just something to strive for. I know a lot of sororities that have a "point system" and they NEVER actually get as many points as they thought they would have to get. I'm sure last year it was 2002 points, the year before 2001, etc.

True... if I had a Kia and someone handed me the keys to a Land Rover, believe me I'd be driving the Rover. But if you've got to be somewhere, you don't wait for the Rover to turn up, you hop into your Kia and GO. It doesn't make what Michelle did right - but I am wondering why we didn't see any vehicles other than the Rovers that episode.

It seemed pretty clear to me... meeting called for 9:30, pledges showed at 9:32, first thing Val said was "dock yourselves 10 points." Agreed, though, that they should have been more organized and left themselves some extra time.

Still seems like an awful lot of meetings. A weekly pledge education meeting, a weekly "mission" (and why do they have to be at midnight? Sleep deprivation is hazing...), a weekly neophyte meeting, plus other miscellaneous meetings (not all of which should have been necessary, I grant). Add in everything else involved with pledging (spending time with sisters, spending time with each other, community service, etc) and I would need an extra memory chip in my Palm Pilot to keep track of everything... :p

I think Melissa is way cuter though... Michelle is annoying... "I know how to share, I just don't want to!" Ugh!

As for the car situation - it does seem like there's some sort of rule that we're not aware of concerning the use of the Land Rovers - for example, when the actives were calling them for rides to the meeting (wtf is up with that, by the way? How did the actives get to meetings BEFORE they had pledges?) I'm sure if they were allowed to use their own cars someone would have been smart enough to say "Hey, you go get this active in your car, I'll get these two in my car, and you pick up this one in the Rover" - right?

Maybe MTV has a rule that if two or more pledges are going somewhere, they have to take a Rover. Or that if it's sorority related, they're supposed to take a Rover... because they're all fitted with cameras/microphones to catch all the drama that goes on in the car... It just seems like there's some restrictions on using their own cars... I dunno though.

Okay, this has been something that has bugged me for a while now, not just about SL3 but about all the shows in this series. The actives are always calling the pledges and making them do stuff for them. I know that everyone's GLO is different, but when I was a pledge the actives always went out of their way to invite me to things and check up on me...not order me around. And when I became an active, I always called the pledges and asked them if THEY needed a ride, not the other way around. I just feel like the groups they choose for the SL Shows are all about what the pledges are going to do for them to prove to them that they should get in...whereas it seems like many of our GLOs are about supporting our pledges and making sure it's a mutual match. I'm sure this is just a part of the "sororities are power trip elitists" stereotype that MTV wants to portray, but it drives me nuts!

Regarding big/lil selection...
I think it's a nice idea to have a randomness so that you get to know new girls, but it would stink to be next in line to receive a lil sis and then get someone you don't think is right for your chapter (ie Lynnise).

kddani 10-08-2003 10:49 PM

Wow, talk about unsupportive... way to show any sort of interests in the talents and hobbies of your "sisters."
