I would have to agree with AlphaFrog here. I am wary of any type of extremism, and they seem like extremists, after visiting their site. Plus, whenever I think of them, I think of Lacey from Rock of Love and also throwing red paint on people in streets. Yuck.

Has anybody else noticed that PETA is a sponsor of NPC and listed on the NPC website?

That surprised me.

Where did you see that? We are talking about npcwomen.org, right?

kathykd2005 12-27-2007 02:58 PM

http://www.npcwomen.org/about/sponsor-directory.aspx

And yes, it is there. Surprising to me, as well... Hmmm.

Yes, that was exactly my point. Her taking a stand and not wearing them at all would make a lot more of an impression on young women than donating the coats to PETA.

Look... I'm sorry but there is NO WAY that Samantha would wear FAKE FUR! Oh, the humanity! :)

Oh I totally agree with that. And her wearing fur and getting red paint thrown on her is part of the script from what I understand so maybe Kim was just getting into the part....

Also, I've heard that PETA isn't even in favor of people owning pets! Can someone confirm that?

A few years ago I read a news story about them trying to make it so that legally you don't own your pet, you are its guardian.

You've been killed a lot today... Are you sure you aren't a cat?

Technically, parents don't "own" their children, but it doesn't seem to be a deterrent from abusing them if they are that type of person. I don't get the point...

kathykd2005 12-27-2007 03:38 PM

Neither do I.

kathykd2005 12-27-2007 03:39 PM

Side note: what was this thread about before we hijacked it with PETA discussion? I don't even remember.

That legally, animals would have an equal standing with humans. PhiGam, I remember that story too.

People don't get the death penalty for killing animals....I think that's part of the point.

SthrnZeta 12-27-2007 03:54 PM

Pets are by law considered personal property which is why they can be bought and sold as such. And that's also why you can't get the death penalty for "destroying" your personal property.

PhiGam 12-27-2007 04:48 PM

Which is the way it should be. Animal cruelty should be a crime... but not on the same level as killing a fellow human.

kathykd2005 12-27-2007 04:53 PM

Agreed, but mostly based on the point that I don't believe in the death penalty--at all.
