I got out of bed for this?

That was so mean.

Okay, aprocess...this has gone on far too long! Finish it already!!!!!!!

groovypq 09-15-2008 10:23 AM

Sorry to anyone checking in because I've bumped the thread. I have a question that I really should know the answer to, but I don't.

If she signed her card after preference then isn't the bid she got from Marissa binding for a year? I've come across some threads lately that state that someone had until the end of the day or something to decide whether or not to accept their bid.

I've never heard of this before. Isn't that the whole point of signing your card right after Pref? You're pre-accepting.

So, unless there was a computer error, wouldn't aprocess be bound to Marissa?

Sorry for the confusion...it's been too many decades since I went through Rush.

By signing a preference card, you pre-accept the fact that you will be bound to the chapter where you match for a year. Particularly at campuses where Rho Gammas "force" PNMs to rank all of their preference chapters and don't make this fact clear, a chapter may match quota, but far fewer could actually show up at bid day. This happens all the time to my friend's chapter at another school. Again, regardless of whether those PNMs "accepted" or not, they are bound for a year.

It sucks for the chapters too, because they think they have more NMs than they really do. Some College Panhellenics think that forcing PNMs to rank all of their choices no matter what helps a Greek system, but it doesn't do the chapters or PNMs any favors. If you wouldn't accept a bid from a chapter, don't rank it.

Thanks for the clarification, Jess.

Weeellll, the other side of the coin is that if their HQ is on their tail about low numbers/not being at total, these girls can be included. They are considered "holdovers." Or that's how it used to work in dinosaur days, anyway.

This thread went from being great to sucking.

ASTalumna06 09-15-2008 02:11 PM

yea, this is just about the longest recruitment story ever. It's been going on for a week and a half, and uh.. we want to know the end of it!

PeppyGPhiB 09-15-2008 02:42 PM

How 'bout y'all stop egging her on with the bumping of the thread. Move on...the OP obviously has.

(yes, I realize the irony of me bumping the thread to post this, but all of the 'PLEEEEZE FINISH YOUR STORY, YOU'RE KILLING ME!' posts were driving me nuts).

aprocess 09-15-2008 04:37 PM

the facebook message

Jessie wrote me:

"hey!!!! omg, i was so sad to not see your name on the bid list!!!! oh well, we can still be friends! Dinner?"

I wrote her back and said

"YES!!! defin. thursday"

I remember getting ready for dinner. it was so wierd. I felt like i was either going on a date or going through recruitment again (though I knew recruitment was over). She lived in the house, so I drove down and went to pick her up.

I was thinking of topics to talk to her about JUST like recruitment. I really did want her as a friend and maybe, just maybe, i could go through next year (after my year was up) and i could know more girls through Jessie. Maybe Jessie would even tell me what happened this year. I was still utterly confused.

So I got to the door and knocked.....
