Well that's great, and thanks for taking time to actually post it.

Until this board's software can develop a better search engine, John should totally disable it and have a message saying "this search engine sucks, just do a Google search and save yourself a headache". Maybe we can convince him to do that.
I totally agree!!! On all the sticky threads that say "use the search function," it should be re-written to say, "use the google search function" and then shown how to add GC as the domain.

The first time I heard of Chi Omega I thought it was not a "real" sorority, but a rip off of Alpha Chi Omega. This is of course, BEFORE I was Greek.:o Hey, we don't have Chi Omega at my school.

to worry or not to worry????

Just talked at length to my daughter about the choices she made on her list. At Bama, they were able to list 7 and rank 4. This was a hard decision for her. She's been very involved in community service and this round of parties really "spoke" to her. She has really liked the past 2 days a lot. Here's her worry...(tops the list as of right now)... one of her dear friends from our hometown is rushing her this week. Their plilanthropy round wasn't as strong as she'd hoped it would be. She also got a girl this round that seemed to be wanting to do something else. Anything else other than talking to her! Anyway, my daughter said she was like the last one out of the room trying to figure it all out when she made her list. This topic dominated 75% of our conversation. I told her it'd all work out for the best. It just upsets me that she's worried about this in addition to all the other rush worries!!!!!!

It will all work out for the best. She still has two more days to get to know the chapters. By Saturday afternoon, she should know which house really feels like home.

Hang in there, uamomma! Everything will work out for the best. Bumps along the way are almost inevitable.

I've been following both the 'Bama thread and the Auburn thread avidly. I'm NOT being Panhellenic when I say...I was so thrilled to learn that both Alabama and Auburn would have new colonies this year! :) I'm not from the deep south, but oh my goodness, I know that recruitment there can be tough, tough, tough. How can anyone not have complete respect for Alpha Phi, and (at Auburn) Kappa Alpha Theta? Both are such strong national orgs. Some girls will not find their homes during recruitment, and instead of broken hearts, they may well be part of an exciting new opportunity.

uamomma 08-14-2008 09:33 PM

Thanks. You're right. I just wish she felt better about her decision.

On my side of things, I am soooo nervous about tomorrows invites. This is worse than any of the J.V., Varsity tryouts all combined!!!!! Tomorrow (9:30 to be exact) can't come soon enough!

Bear 08-14-2008 10:20 PM

My daughter is rushing at Bama this week. I have a question. Historically, what percentage of the girls get seven invites for skit day?

SWTXBelle 08-14-2008 10:22 PM

I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if that information was kept for the system at large. For individual chapters, you might have the info., but I doubt it's public.
Don't worry about statistics - the fact is that it is your daughter, not a number, going through. Whatever the stats, she will have her own unique experience. Hope she finds her home!:)

Although I'd be curious to know the answer to this too, I'd be really surprised if that info. is generally available. I don't know, but I'd guess that only someone with access to the whole recruitment database could even look such a thing up.

I don't think anyone at the chapters knows where else a girl is invited; they just find out if she's coming back to them, I think.

Many if someone on here was a recruitment counselor, she could give you the stats on her recruitment group, but even that would be really different today with release figures than it would have been in the past.

Don't know about now, but back in the day we definitely knew where everyone went. Back then we got a printout with a list of where they were going and which party.

uamomma 08-14-2008 10:51 PM

This is strictly he said, she said info, but my daughter "heard" that a good average was 5 for skit because of the big cuts sororities have to make. Not sure if this was PNM gossip or actually from her group leaders.

Does anyone know if Bama chapters know where the girls are returning to? Just curious.

Bear 08-14-2008 10:56 PM

That sounds reasonable. I would think most girls had between 9-11 visits for the second round so 5 would indicate about a 50% cut rate. Thank You

WOW! I don't know if we did get a list like that but I just never saw it (which might be likely) or if they didn't give them out. Was this at Bama? (I do know that the final bid day list were known by everyone, but every party every round? Wow.)

One would still have had to track the girls across parties to know the answer to Bear's question though. Did you all do that?

Titchou 08-15-2008 07:22 AM

I can verify what anchor alum said as I was there a few years before her. We all got a list of who was attending which parties at which houses.

at fsu we only got lists of who would be attending our own parties. like
UGAAlum94, we did get bid lists for all the houses on bid day, an hour or two before bid day festivities.
