It seems DZ made a judgement call that was not in the thinking of Depaw.

DZ made a call doing something that no one actually seems to understand and seemed to be in error.

Depaw at the same time feels the have a responisibility to their students.

There for the moment seems to be a two side of the mouth reporting going on!

Depaw-1
Delta Zeta-0

DZ would be well advised for the moment to just leave it alone before the hole gets any depper.

I wonder how many hits the DZ web site has had since this came out!

I do not remember if this has been posted but here is the link to KDs Site on the situation:

Rest of the post is pretty good, Tom, but you gotta stop Freudian slippin'.

And Newsweek has this -- nothing new, really, as far as I could tell -- on its web site:

SWTXBelle pretty much sums up my feeling on the NPC statement.

Its stories like this that make me realize my decision not to join a NPC was a good one.

Whatever happened to sisterhood?

Wow, if that's not a blanket statement, then I don't know what is. Of course, I could turn around and make a comment about YOUR organization and your how many chapters -- but that wouldn't be fair, would it?

It's unfair to slap the "no sisterhood" label on DZ (and the 25 other NPC sororities) based on the actions of a few women at HQ.

So until you can prove that there's no sisterhood in our NPC sororities, I'd keep comments like that to yourself, THX.

KillarneyRose 03-31-2007 10:41 PM

"If" these sisters were put on alumni status because they way they looked/acted didn't mesh with the direction National wanted it to go, why are people so shocked about that?

Two NPC chapters recolonized while I was at college and when the process was over every sister adhered perfectly to the idea of how their National thought a XXX or ABC should look and act. Both chapters, I recall, were an instant hit inside the chapter room and out. That is what I grew up believing recolonizing to be. Not a warm and fuzzy "oooooooooh, we wuv each other" weekend but rather a "You ladies are not holding up your end of the bargain and so we're going to come and find ladies who will." In the People article I read, one alumni sister was quoted that she wasn't willing to change anything about herself in order to stay in the sorority. So now, how can she bitch?

Seriously, what were after rush party meetings like in your chapters? You never mentioned an outgoing personality, a pretty face or a good body? Those things didn't matter to you? It was all about the philanthropy, right??? Um, yeah, that's how we did it too

KR, I made this point in the other thread, but it seems that it was only your chapter and mine who did this because everyone else posted about how their chapters were above this stuff.

My bad...I didn't mean to offend you. Its just from MY personal experience with NPC's going through formal rush my freshman year, that was the impression I got, but you're right I shouldn't make a blanket statement like that, I'm sure not ALL chapters of NPCs operate like this, and I'm sure you have sisterhood amongst eachother, the sisterhood comment was not directed at all NPCs, just at the Depauw situation.

When chapters decide to reorganize (not recolonize, because DePauw wasn't officially closed yet), aren't all collegians given alumnae status? How often does HQ come in to "pick and choose"?

I find it very hard to believe that the ONLY ONES committed to rebuilding Delta Chapter were the pretty and skinny ones.

If these girls are such bitches, then why even bother giving them bids in the first place?

I'm curious to see how DZ HQ's legal fees will be taken care of. If I were a member, I'd be sick knowing that there could be a possibility my dues are paying for an unnecessary lawsuit.

Yep, my chapter was above this stuff.

And I'm glad we were the way we were because I don't think I could be a part of a chapter filled with shallow bitches.

I believe if you have to change who you are to fit in, then it wasn't the right org for you anyway.

Also...what are they trying to turn these girls into "The Stepford Sorors"
Everyone has to look the same and act the same in order to be in XYZ org? What ever happen to embracing diversity? in my org we celebrate our differences, and while doing so it makes us a stronger organization.

Jimmy Choo 03-31-2007 11:12 PM

There's a difference between mentioning in passing "Wow, Susie PNM is really pretty. Her dress was so cute!" or saying "Well, Sally PNM was nice and would fit in except she's butt ugly and we can't bid her". I'm glad I was part of a chapter that was part of the first example!
