I'm sitting in the yearbook office with a copy of the Bob Jones University yearbook from 2000. It's total craziness. I can't even imagine where you buy some of the get-ups these girls are wearing. The guys' sports teams are wearing shorts but the girls' teams have to wear pants . . .
And oh, in the pictures of their "societies," there's a photo of what I imagine is "hazing" -- a kid with a blindfold on who's being forced to drink . . . GINGER ALE! The horror! |

I am sorry, but I do not really understand a "Professed" College such as this compared to Us Heathens who go to Schools who beleive in learning and enlightenment.
But, of course, there must be some people who beleive this Dogma and pay out the nose to go there? God forbid that I could not think while I went to College! |
I am just wondering when Thefacebook.com will be opened up to BJU :D

But then again this is the same 'institute' that welcomes Ian Paisley to lecture - which worries me that the "university" is promoting or supporting his hatemongering. |
re: being forced to drink Ginger Ale
Actually, if forced to drink VERY LARGE amounts of any
liquid, even water (especially water!), a person can die. I remember reading about a fraternity pledge forced to drink large amounts of water in a short period....it makes the electrolytes in the body "out of kilter" and causes the heart to stop (similar to heart attacks in people with bulimia eating disorder). my 2cc.:p |
Can you use tobacco while attending? Or can you eat "junk food"?

I have an interesting experience with BJU. First off, my aunt went there in the 80's, I do not remember rules but I do know it is unaccredited and she could not even get a job in her field with her degree. She ended up having to go to community college to take soem classes. Even now she can really only hold a job that requires a high school diploma.
also, i went to a christian high school and we took science over what was caled BJLinc. It was a live TV broadcast of our classes taught by a teacher at BJU. it was broadcast to christain schools all over the country and a keypad thing to enter answers to exams and in class questions and also 'log' if you were not understanding material. the teacher then would see students pressing this and explain the material again. we could also call in over the keypads too or once in a while, the teacher would pick a random student at a random school and call on him or her. it was very strange having to log in each period and then having our previous science taechers sit in on the class to make sure we were paying attention. also, as a christian school kid, i got to see wide range of christian colleges (i never even considered going to one, but they visited the school and a ton of graduates went to them). The schools tend to be very different in the way that a school like penn state is about partying and my undergrad was more of a suitcase working class school. from the ones who visited or friends went to, this is what i learned: BJU was of no use because it was not accredited and had the strictest rules Pensacola had weird rules but wasn't as nutso. they had a hardcore recruitment team though. i started receiving college info in 7th grade and they came each year to present at our school. Liberty is more of the 'liberal' christian school and allows christian rock, etc. most of the kids from my school who went to christian colleges went here. ive also heard from my boss who went to a school in the same town, that these kids liek to party and could be found at local frat parties. liberty controls the students lives less than BJU and pensacola. Nyack is kind of the same. Wheaton is very academically focused and harder to get in to Word of LIfe and some others are specifically fro going into missionary work or becoming a pastor/youth pastor. my thing is to just be careful in lumping all these schools together as they can be very different, especially BYU as it is actually an accredited university. i think liberty may be also. it is crazy to think of how mnay christian colleges there are out there...not just like 'catholic' or 'jesuit' or 'baptist' etc, but the ones that actually have daily or weekly chapels that people are espected to attend or where a specific religious faith is an admissions factor |

Well rest assured, graduates of BJU can always find some employment elsewhere... like perhaps being appointed Ambassador to Canada:rolleyes:
It's nice to see the anti-Catholic bias hasn't slipped into his diplomatic dealings up here... oh wait a tic, silly me it has... |

Liberty is accredited, as is Wheaton. Wheaton is actually pretty highly regarded.
