Ok, sorry if I am repeating this but everyone claims their pin is on the moon but has no proof. Sigma Kappa though has proof that our badge has been in space. From our pledge book: "Rhea Seddon, Lambda, is a mission specialist for NASA. Her first flight into space was aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1985. She took her Sigma Kappa badge on her flight into space." It might not be on the moon but it has been out there!! Just to prove Sigma Kappas are out of this world!! sorry if this is corny ;) |

thanks lifesaver :) OK maybe she is not famous in the movie star sense...but at our convention last month, the Recognition of Eminence Award (only 7 ASA's have received it) went to Cindy Ryan. Cindy is the first woman ever to be the chief counsel to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Plus, I met her and she's totally cool. oh, and I had a letter published in TV Guide once. Does that count as fame? :p |

He's not famous anymore because he's dead, but General Sherman was a Theta Chi. |

My boyfriend and I had a discussion about this a few months ago and he told me that Dr. Suess's wife actually WASN'T a Sigma Kappa. That's what he was taught in his program since there has been so many rumors about it. Looks like this is another case like the pin on the moon.....will we ever know the truth? Probably not.;) [/B][/QUOTE] I am almost 100 percent sure that Dr. Suess's wife is a Sigma Kappa. There are WAY too many similarities in the grinch for her not to be. And there is no way that it is just a coincidence. My Sigma sisters can back me up on that. |

AlphaSigLana: didn't ASA grow out of an educational society? Which means most ASAs were originally teachers... and if THAT doesn't make them some of the most important people on the planet, I don't know what does. :-) Aside from that, some of the most influencial people in MY life have been housewives, students, secretaries..... just because you're not world-famous doesn't mean you don't make a world of difference. :-D ~ Jacquelyn. |

Why don't you just ask Dr. Suess' wife what sorority she was in? |
|
SigmaKappaKelly, i feel ya girl!!! there are too many coincidences for her not to be a sig kap. if she's not, i like to think she is. . .hahahah ;) |

Sorry ladies. :( Mrs. Geisel/Seuss is not a Sigma. That's according to Nationals. I wish she was. She lives in San Diego and is always giving $$$$ away. The UCSD library is named after her husband. :D I'd be stoked to have her in our alumnae chapter! I wonder if she's in a sorority or if she even went to college. What a triumph it'd be to initiate her as an almuna. |

I just relized something. When I get famous it will be hard to prove who I am because I will most likely use an assumed name. |

Famous Phi's, and Armstrong comment Let's see...famous Phi Delts... Here are a few: Neil Armstrong (Astronaut) F. Story Musgrave (Astronaut) Lou Gehrig (Baseball) Benjamin Harrison (US President) Adlai Stevenston (US VP) James Baker (Frmr. Sec. of State) Bill Bixby (Actor) that's right the HULK! Dirk Benedict (Actor) Face from the A Team Tim Conway (Actor/Comedian) Robert Ebert (Critic) Hank Ketchum (Creator Dennis the Mennace) Sam Nun (Politician) But Reynolds (Actor) Bob Scheifer (CBS News) Frank Loyd Wright (Architect) J. Willard Marriot (founder of Mattiot) John McLarmore (founder of Burger King) You can find more at: http://www.phideltatheta.org/ look under our fraternity, then famous Phi's Also, as far as the Armstrong thing goes (it has been discussed in a couple of other posts). I do not know if he did leave a Phi Delt and/or Alpha Chi Badge on the moon but I have heard that at several different times. I do know that in our General Headquarters Meuseum that there is a Phi Delt Bade and a small Phi Delt flag (like the US flag the astronauts wear on their space suits) in a display, along with that is a letter from and signed by Armstron himself. It states something like, " I herby donate this badge and flag, that I carried to the moon on the Appolo landing, with the date and signature of Armstrong." So, I don't know if that clears anything up or adds more mystery to it. I think I have a pic of it somewhere I will look tonight and see and maybe scan it in this week. This convo actually leads me to open a new thread. What are other organizations Urban Legends? Wheter it be unconfirmed membership of certain "famous" people or the Armstrong moon badge story? I will try to start a new thread and get some interesting disuccsion going. Thanks! o.p.i.e. |

Timely... I was just watching the US Open Tennis Championship coverage, and went back to check the Delt webpage. Bill MacAtee, the studio anchor is a Delt. I thought I'd seen that before, but wasn't sure. |
