Some of us had a professional football team but it sucks so bad that there's no sense in getting too attached. You're just always disappointed. If the Lions could play football, then people may not be so quick to be Michigan or Michigan State fans. Michigan was remarkably good for a long, long time, under Bo. They went to bowl games and gave us great football. And still did, until Rich Rod... but this too shall pass :)

The phrase "pop of color".

When people hear you're in grad school for an education degree:

"My god, why would anyone want to do that? You'll never make any money."

"OMG. You're going to be so poor."

"You know the teachers I know only make *insert salary here*."

You mean i'm not going to be driving a Bentley as a SPED teacher. OMG. I so didn't know that. Thanks for enlightening me.

Sidenote: Another thing that sort of bugs me is the assumption that SPED = my kids are going to beat me up/kill me. Every single child with special needs does not have some sort of dangerous behavior that's going to result in my bodily injury. Educate yourself.

When people find out I'm a history major

"What do you want to do with that?"

And really, Kent peeps, OSU is full of fail this year, while the school you actually GO to is headed for a bowl game and a top 25 team. Go Bucks, indeed.

I am JUST like this, except about Penn State. (No offense, Penn Staters.) If I see one more person from my school wax poetic about Penn State, I will punch them. Especially when they refer to Penn State as "their" team. I want to whack them with their Susquehanna diploma...

I don't know why but I cannot stand people who root for a school that is not their alma mater. I don't care if that makes me sound snobby. If you wanted to root for ABC school, you should have gone there. :p

So I can't root for the Dallas Mavericks until I'm on the roster?

I guess it's probably tired of seeing rather than tired of hearing, but:

I agree, MysticCat! I am a tolerant person, but I don't need to put on a t-shirt or bumper sticker that says I am. Frankly, I don't think the design is all that visually appealing either.

Yeah, perhaps I should have made clear that I, too, am all for tolerance, cooperation and mutual understanding.

I just think those bumper stickers try way too hard. I also think it bothers me a little that since they just have the one word, they read not as hopeful expressions that we can learn to get along, but as an imperative: "Coexist!" Seems kind of contrary to the purported desire for mutual understanding.

To me, they come across as trite and preachy -- the epitome of bumper sticker philosiphizing, I guess.

clarinette 12-13-2012 11:11 PM

I figured you were a tolerant person. You come across as a nice, understanding person. :)

I totally agree with your sentiment. Some people, unless a miracle of God occurs, will never be able to coexist.

"This is the new normal."

Quit it with the stupid buzzwords and office speak.

There are people I would like to shove off the "fiscal cliff".... mostly just those who keep saying it.
