It's all rather Earp-ish too. Continuing to come back but not even attempting to change the dead giveaways like writing style or the blatant begging for attention.

The only thing that could make this thing even more bizarre is if these stories were all being posted by Earp.

We would have caught on by post #1 not #20 with all of his  and  and incomplete sentences!

Looks like a whole new type of fan fiction has emerged. There's Harry Potter fan fic, Twilight fan fic, slashy fan fic, and now...SORORITY FAN FIC. The ultimate Mary Sue.

*groan*

You know, I kind of miss Earp and all the Earpisms....

then, of course, the ensuing flame posts, which were hilarious!

A little crazy can be fun :)

If I did a retro recruitment story, I would have to make most of mine up if I wanted to make it interesting, because, in reality if I did it, my story would go like this -

I rushed in the early 80's. I remember that I went to parties, but I don't remember the schedule, nor what I really thought about the houses, nor what went on at the parties except that there was singing and skits and petifores (YUM). I do remember that everyone was nice and welcoming.

I didn't keep a journal, I just kind of flew by the seat of my pants. I don't remember who invited me back or who cut me (except I do remember being cut by tri-delt, because I was a legacy there ).

I had a tough time deciding between Kappa and Pi Phi, but decided Pi Phi because it would make my great aunt happy. Then I got a bid. End of story :)

Honestly, I have many more memories from the other side, when I was an active. I think I was such a nervous Nellie during my own rush, that everything now seems like a blur - or maybe it's because of the 28 years that have passed, and the husband and 3 kids along the way...

^^Mine was easier to remember because of my mother's "Thou must be in a sorority" attitude. Well, that and I found my rush notebook once I started! ;)

But, see, even if you had to embellish/fill in a few blanks that would be fine for the following reasons:
1. You actually DID rush and receive a bid
2. You know what is typical/not typical during a party OR it *was* typical during your era and of course you would acknowledge that
3. You aren't looking for validation/attention/etc
4. Your story focuses on YOU and not some silly mean girl or all these other ridiculous characters
5. You aren't including stereotypes or other comments that give Greek Life a bad name.

But most importantly- we *know* you. These stories are always so much more interesting when they come from people who have at least been on GC long enough for us to have some familiarity with the poster. Tens of thousands of women rush each year... therefore a story from someone posting for the first time is not that interesting to me. The only exception would be if there were true self awareness and personal development that come from the thread. Curlygirly and 20Something come to mind, though 20something was a longtime poster in disguise.

Personally, the only time I like to read retro stories is during the summer when there aren't any actual recruitments going on. I love reading the live recruitment threads-especially when we help the PNM-ie. I can't decide between this and that outfit, or even the millionth keep your options open post-because at the time, the PNMs can't talk to other sorority women for advice. (and then you get to see how things go with people like the gal who started the engineering sorority that went National and can really cheer) Waiting 3 weeks to get to the point of a story that has already begun just does nothing for me.
