I admit, I thought about it, but thought listing Stanford was kinda fishy since there's two of us at least on the boards

You bet!

In what year was the decision made to limit the stones in the Chi Omega badge to only pearls or diamonds?

a.) From the beginning in 1895
b.) 1906
c.) 1945
d.) Never...to this day any jewel is allowed

I am going to go with None of the Above! According to my manual, the jewels were restricted to pearls or diamonds in 1905, the same year that the size of the badge was standardized.

NutBrnHair 10-07-2004 09:03 AM

Ut oh...controversy on the Chi O Trivia thread!

Hmmm...well? I was going by the link to the National website history page from Psi Gamma's website which states:

1906
Jewels of the official badge restricted to pearls or diamonds. The size was also made uniform.

NutBrnHair 10-07-2004 09:05 AM

Black Enamel Badge

Hey Sisters...here's a peek at a pre-1906 badge which was just purchased off eBay for our National Archives! Cool, huh?

xo_kathy 10-07-2004 12:08 PM

Nut-
That is SO cool! That was before they had regulations on how it could and could not look, right? So did women just go to their local jeweler and have it made up?

XOMichelle 10-07-2004 05:04 PM

My cahpter's advisor has a pre 1906 badge just like the gold enamel one above. It's very very cool.

I'm not sure, I'll try and find out!

Another Question...

Which U.S. state was first to have more than 1 Chi Omega active chapter?

a.) Arkansas
b.) Tennessee
c.) Illinois
d.) Texas

CardinalSM 10-11-2004 12:33 AM

Nut- that is odd that the website and the manual don't have the same year. Strange strange.

I am going to guess:
b.) Tennessee

NutBrnHair 10-11-2004 01:25 PM

We have a winner!

You are CORRECT, Michelle. Tennessee was indeed the first state to have 2 Chi Omega active chapters, followed by Illinois.

Question # 2,673:

On the cover of the Fall 2004 issue of The Eleusis, Jan Blackwell, National Archivist, is pictured with Katie Bass, G.H. of Pi Gamma Chapter. What is the association between these two?

a.) They both are initiates of Pi Gamma Chapter at the Univ. of New Mexico
b.) Katie is Jan's granddaughter
c.) Jan lives in Albuquerque where Pi Gamma Chapter is located.
d.) All of the above

oncelurked 10-11-2004 03:33 PM

Well, since I seem to have stopped receiving The Eleusis for no apparent reason, I'll have to guess.....
And I guess D) all of the above

=)

Nope, nope, nope...not D!

(Heh heh heh <evil laugh> I am sooo tricky -- 99% of the time I love the "all of the above" answer!)

P.S. oncelurked, why don't you let the HQ know about your absence of a magazine? Call or write: 901-748-8600 or webmaster@chiomega.com

xo_kathy 10-13-2004 03:12 PM

I'll say C - the Albuquerque connection!

I know that is where Pi Gamma is and I know Jan lives there because I have her card from when I sent in a badge. My Mom lives there, too, so it makes it an even better answer! :p

kathy wins! Good Work!

NutBrnHair 10-20-2004 11:52 AM

Since the mid-1980s, every Chi Omega alumna with a "good" address has received The Eleusis free of charge. Prior to that time, what was the subscription cost?

a.) $18.95/year
b.) $5.00/year, $12.00 for 3 years, $100.00 for a lifetime subscription
c.) $1.00/issue
d.) There has never been a fee for the magazine.

oncelurked 10-20-2004 01:41 PM

Where do you find this stuff, Nut??? You know so many things about Chi-O!
Anywho, I'll go with B since that sounds reasonable. (I would say D, but for some strange reason I don't think that would be the case after having looked at the Eleusis from 1940 - it was pretty long, and I'd think it would have been expensive to print for everyone free of charge)

And I think changing my address did the trick, because I got my Eleusis!!!

NutBrnHair 10-20-2004 02:00 PM

We have a wiiiiiiinner!

Correct answer, oncelurked! It is B: $5/year. (Wonder how many people actually chose the $100 lifetime option?!)

Yes, back in the old days, "The Eleusis" was a quarterly publication and was more like a small paperback book listing happenings from each chapter and listings of Phi Beta Kappa members, homecoming queens, etc. There were also articles usually written by university people. Each issue was about 150 pages.

NutBrnHair 10-21-2004 01:29 PM

Who, who, whoooo is a bride?

Which current member of the Supreme Governing Council got married this year?

a.) Letitia Niemeier Fulkerson
b.) Shelley Eubanks Potter
c.) Persephone Jones
d.) Stephanie Jacques DuPont

xo_kathy 10-21-2004 03:24 PM

D! Stephanie!
I saw her pic in the Eleusis with ALL those Chi Os at her wedding! It was the size of an active college chapter! :)

And she looked beautiful (of course!).

Nut - you're using trick questions, again. We all know Persephone is getting married on April 5, 2005!!!!! ;)

NutBrnHair 10-22-2004 01:41 AM

Yep, yep, yep! You got it, Kathy. Yeah -- good ole Persephone Jones didn't trick ya, huh?! Right answer -- Stephanie is our newlywed.

Ready for another question?

The first Chi Omega Chapter chartered north of the Mason-Dixon line was:

a.) Beta
b.) Xi
c.) Phi
d.) Chi

oncelurked 10-27-2004 03:44 PM

I'll guess none of the above and go with Omicron Chapter, chartered in 1900.

NutBrnHair 10-27-2004 04:51 PM

No, I'm not that tricky! LOL The correct answer is either a, b, c or d.

XOMichelle 10-27-2004 05:18 PM

I'll take Chi Omega Trivia for $500

Xi, Northwestern!

oncelurked 10-27-2004 06:41 PM

Xi was founded in 1901
Chi was founded in 1903
I don't know when Phi was chartered, though, but it was the chapter at USC.

Ahhhh, but here's the trick... (and if we've been paying attention to all posts in the Trivia thread...)

1899 Phi Chapter was chartered at Hellmuth Woman's College in London, Ontario, Canada. So, it was indeed north of the Mason Dixon line AND the U.S. Canada border.

In 1940, the name Phi was reissued to Univ. of Southern California (a practice no longer done.)

oncelurked 10-27-2004 10:29 PM

tricky, tricky....

XOMichelle 11-02-2004 08:15 PM

Yes, very tricky! I was thinking the same thing as OL.

NutBrnHair 11-03-2004 12:09 PM

Firesides (Chi Omega's regional conferences held on even-numbered years) will be held in February 2005 instead of summer 2005. When was the last time Firesides were held in February?

a.) They've never been in February
b.) They've always been in February
c.) 1981
d.) 1941

oncelurked 11-03-2004 04:53 PM

I'm guessing C! I remember hearing something about them being in February "again" and I don't remember them being in February while I was active. I could have heard wrong, though.:)

NutBrnHair 11-04-2004 01:15 AM

OL is a winner

Yes, yes, yes...you are right! It was 1981 (or maybe 1983 -- I couldn't remember for sure) I know they had Firesides in Feb. '81 cuz I was there as a Personnel Chrm.

NutBrnHair 11-05-2004 10:03 PM

Which was the last (most recent) Chi Omega collegiate chapter closed because the college/university did away with the Greek System?

a.) Sigma Chapter, Randolph-Macon Woman's College (Virginia)
b.) Beta Chapter, Colby College (Maine)
c.) Nu Alpha Chapter, Stanford University (California)
d.) Gamma Alpha, Swarthmore College (Pennsylvania)

oncelurked 11-08-2004 04:10 PM

It's not C....A, maybe?

Or did something happen in the last week that I am utterly unaware of?

aopirose 11-08-2004 06:23 PM

I guess B because Colby did away with its system in 1984.

Oh, oh, oh...how exciting -- we have an AOTT with a correct answer! Yeah! (Welcome to our forum, aopirose.)

Sorry, OL...Randolph-Macon did away with sororities in the '60s and Colby College was yes, in 1984.
