Did anyone notice after Eva won they had a shot of Yaya saying "I guess they just wanted someone more bubbly." She was tryna fight this even after it was over! I never really liked her comments. She seems sort of stuck on herself and feels she is the one who deserves this. It's like she couldn't even bare it when she wasn't the winner.

I think we will be seeing a lot of all three of them. Very strikingly beautiful. Although, does anyone feel Yaya's skin may be an issue if she does decide to continue modeling?

I think a lot of how Yaya has been portrayed was due to editing...they wanted her to appear stuck up and everyone has jumped on that bandwagon labeling her that way...and since when does a model have to be approachable and likeable?...Naomi has had a great career and she is known as numero uno binch...even the little girl in the Children's Place commercial has a stank attitude....all Yaya has to do is get set up with some Proactiv...

Amanda went out like a punk...& unfortunate for her she's kept the white hair in the finale party pictures..still looks weird. (I thought the house comment was made when she was packing so Janice would not have heard it)...

Looking at the pictures from the party I forgot about some of those girls...I wish Magdalena had been given a chance to stay at least one week to take pictures..she's so pretty in person I'm sure she could have taken nicer pictures than Ann who wasted space for weeks.

Youanna still looks crazy to me..she hasn't blossemed at all...there goes that a model has to look like a model in person theory..

Tocarra gets more beautiful everytime I see her...she's my top model!

Tyra still looks like she is auditioning for the Cowardly Lion in the Wiz...her mane may not be orange but its still out there - way too much hair for her head

MeezDiscreet 12-16-2004 01:05 PM

i can't really blame yaya for her comments. think about it: they just announced eva as winner then stuck a camera in her face asking how she feels about it. she answered better than i would have.

and ann DOES look like janice. and, she still doesn't know how to pose.

mrs. jay bet not let me catch him ANYWHERE dressed like that. i'm kicking his azz ON SITE!!

I LOVE TOCARRA!

And THANK YOU for the note on Tyra - I knew she looked familiar and now I realize who she resembled :D hahahaha!! She was just plain scary in those pics!

Yay For Eva the Diva

I was SO happy when they announced Eva as the winner! I, like the rest of you crazy folk, jumped and up started screaming. :) (I know my neighbors were mad at me for that--oh, well). Eva deserved to win b/c she was the best all-around candidate.

I was SO happy weird-looking, "I'm legally blind blah blah blah" (dayum, we know, you told us two minutes ago) Amanda didn't even make it into the final two. What she said about Eva was straight foul (unless there was some behind-the scenes stuff we didn't see, which I doubt b/c viewers love drama!).

And Yaya just KNEW she was gonna win--wrong, HEFFA, wrong!!! She lost b/c of her stank attitude--point-blank. And when she said her final comments "...They wanted some more bubbly..." I just thought she is full of herself. She should have made a more gracious exit (i.e. "thank you for this opportunity yada yada yada

Eva will go far.

CrimsonTide4 12-16-2004 05:06 PM

I honestly don't know why anyone expected Yaya to win once she spit that food out in Japan. That sealed her then and there as definitely not going to be the winner.

Ain't that the truth, Ruth!

Also, why was I ROTFL when I looked at the pics of the Finale Party and under Yaya's pic her name said "Yaya Johnson"

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah I caught that too. Who knew that Eva's last name was Pigford?

I read the ANTM chat transcript with Ann earlier this morning. Interesting stuff.

While it may be true about the editing, the editors can only work with what you (general use of the word) give them. Making comments like "my non-presensce there gave someone else a chance to win" and "If there was something Amanda and I could have done to make Eva feel more included, we wouldn't have done it" doesn't exactly endear you to people. YaYa is a BEAUTIFUL sista...she just has to know when to turn it on and when to turn it off. :)

When Naomi was initially climbing up the ladder in the modeling world, I'm sure she wasn't biting folks and throwing her cell phone at them(things she's purported to have done).

This article was written by a Latina woman. It was a pretty intersting read, and I wanted to get your opinions of it.

Quote:

One is more Afro-centric while the other is, well…less. In an attempt at sensitivity I will say that the other is more of an ethnic blend with features that are less definable as African and perhaps more European, Asian or Indian. Finalist Yaya (21), by her own definition and supported by the community standards, is more Afro-centric, due to her classic African bone structure, complexion and hair texture. She is regal and refined, resembling I would imagine Queen Nefertiti in her prime. Finalist Eva (19) is visually more universal. She has large oval doe eyes, button nose, fairer skin tone and silkier hair.

This article was actually written by a Latino man.

It was an interesting read, but it raised no new points to me. We have been discussing this without our community for some time. People that are on the outside looking in (as we know he is on the outside) cannot really say much. I really don't understand the purpose of the article, except to maybe cause another conflict amongst the races and within the African-American community about Eva being selected because she is light-skinned.

Why can't people just accpet the fact that they were two beautiful women that happened to be Black. They deserved to be the last two standing. Why does it have to be broken down to a Black person "had" to win this year? Why must it be rationalized that Eva won only because her skin tone and hair texture is more accpetable to the world?

To refer to Tyra as a "redbone" is a bit lame, out-of-place, and incorrect. Tyra is far from what I would consider "red." In fact, that "fivehead" is VERY Nubian. And, NO, she does NOT "get away with" altering her eye and hair color while still looking "natural." Show me one black person with naturally ORANGE hair and I will respectfully withdraw my comment. :o

"I'm in high school. but I don't think that Eva is going to win because my friend's sister knows someone that goes to Clark At...." That's when I clicked the radio to another station. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO angry!!   I'm thinking, damn, Eva done lost and is back being an ordinary girl. But as the day passed, I thought, even if she is back at Clark already, she has to live normally until the final episode is announced, as not to blow her cover. So I was cool. But I'd be lying if I didn't think that Eva was gonna be cut!!! They just went on and on about Icy Eyes and I was NERVOUS!! But she made it past that. And I know Eva can work a runway, but they just kept talking about how regal YaYa was.

But Eva made it!! I screamed and was overjoyed. She deserved it. Eva Diva did the dayum thang!!!

I have been holding this in for weeks.....a temp in our office is a recent CAU grad and is good friends with Eva's boyfriend. She told me that Eva won (and yes, I was pissed off!!) several weeks ago. She said that Eva is really sweet and down to earth. She also said she thought Eva was planning to return to school in January, but I wonder how that will be possible.

My bad.

It actually did raise a new point for me. I knew this was an issue we used to divide ourselves, however, I did not know other races had joined in the debate. It may be naive of me, but I didn't think someone of another race would even have the nerve to speak about this issue to other blacks let alone write and article about it. That was the interesting thing to me.

I know whenever I watch the show, I always root for the blacks whether I think they are beautiful or not. This season I did the same, but in all honesty I have to agree with Tyra. The two top girls happened to be black. Not once did I think about Eva being more approachable because she appeared to be mixed, and I definately didn't think she won because of it. I also think that YaYa lost not because of her darker skin tone or her nappy hair but because of her attitude.

A BIG CO SIGN!

When Tyra told her to take a slice of humble pie and she didn't do that I knew it was over as well. Yes we know you have an Ivy League education and were proud of you but damn you don't have to tell us every 5 seconds. We get it!

Interesting that she was wearing that "Respecto" shirt earlier in the season but just HAD to get a little dig in at the end about why she didn't win. Whatever.

As for her being a model, I think she'll get some work but be honest, what agency wants to spend extra money for a model to go to a dermatologist when there's plenty of beautiful women with clear skin? Not many.

I agree. I'm sure his own race has a couple of issues that he can analyze. Even if I could look past that, his theory is gone once you mention some of the newer African American models Tomiko Fraser, Jaunel McKenzie, Ujjwala, Alek Wek, and Lyia Kebede. I didn't like the way he only threw in Roshumba's name in an attempt to say she's the only other dark model besides Naomi and how she gets no attention.

If you think about it, Covergirl already has a "afrocentric" (using the author's words) model Kiara Kubukuru : http://www.covergirl.com/tips/nailti...ileyblonde.gif
I'm sure they had a say in the overall decision and they didn't want a model who was close to what they already had. Considering Covergirl is about makeup and their ads focus on the model's face, I think that was another factor in not choosing Yaya. Her skin did clear up, but she still had some problems.

I read the article and was not enlightened but somewhat defensive (though not very). I believe Tyra looks a mess with that red hair and is not getting away with anything. Also, Naomi Campbell either had hazel eyes or wears contacts but she does look nice and if she wanted red hair, then she would look just as crazy as Tyra. All-in-all, whatever "problems" exist in the African-American community needs to be addressed by the African-American community and resolved within the African-American community.

I did e-mail the writer to let him know my viewpoint of his article (I assumed that's why he put his e-mail address at the end).

EXACTLY!! I ALWAYS root for the Black person. The way I see it, if I don't no one will. But anyway, I also didn't think of Eva as more approachable. If we look back, Eva was the farthest thing from approachable. YaYa was always "centered" and approachable. Over time, they did change roles and Eva became a better person. I just think that YaYa is competitve and competition got the best of her. Reminds me of April last year. It wasn't sp much that she wanted to be a model, she just wanted to WIN.

Thank you for posting the party links to the videos on UPN. Did anyone see what Janice said about Eva not being her choice? She also said Mercedes was her choice from last season and Elise from the first. I guess I was surprised based on Janice's reaction once Eva actually did win!

Oh about the faces Eva was making, yeah very fake and not too cute either. But still glad she won and is having a good time with it all. Love the People Mag article and I am glad she is really out there unlike the other Top Models that have come through.
