Damn Mtv editors!!!!!

Votes for Steve, 7NO, 16 yes, 8 abstain (or something really close to that)

EVERYONE ELSE==== Adam says "29 yes, 1 abstain" then puts his cowboy back on his head!!!!!!!!!!! EACH TIME

Why show the same results for everyone??? Why LIE?

At first I was all confused about why one brother would abstain from each vote. Then I figured "Biff" the pledgemaster must have abstained. But he says he voted no on Steve. Finally I realize most likely Alex had 29 yes with his brother abstaining. Paul is the only other one that I can think could possibly get that kind of result after all the others being told "you don't have the votes".

Just for everyone's reference, I have an extensive compilation of all the news articles surrounding the FL:2 boys and KoiGate here.

This thing is even showing up in overseas news reports.

Ooooh ooooh I know the answer!

If you are making pledgees right they will learn there history during the process, therefore it would not have been a surprise that someone didnt know anything.
But in my opinion Steve didn't get in for reasons that were unspoken.
Earl was horrible, but they crossed him. Earl disrespected all of him LB's and Big Bothers but they crossed him.
Plus they were all willing to walk for Earl, but not Steve. Questionable?

It was because they didn't want a black brother? ;)

AXO Alum 06-09-2003 09:33 PM

It's because they didn't want a brother who wouldn't bother to do anything but try to get OUT of things! I don't care if the man was red, green, purple, yellow, etc. - he didn't deserve to be a member and they shoulda given him the boot long ago!

YAY for Tim to point out the obvious - maybe he's moved up from complete and total loss to trainwreck status in my book!

Steve shoulda been man enough to walk downstairs and tell his brothers goodbye - he is just a lame-a$$ and I am glad that he didn't get what the others (who worked hard most of the time) deserved.

A little bit weird there with Jarreau and Tim not letting each other go...just a bit...tad uncomfortable...

LOL at Earl - despite his need for anger management, he definitely brought some life to this party!

I so agree with your observations 110%! Earl disrespected just about everyone and he was initiated! And Steve made an "89", cmon folks, lets get real here. I smell a rat. I didn't like Steve, I thought he was childish, but he deserved to be in the fraternity if Earl got in.

gamma_girl52 06-10-2003 05:08 PM

I agree that it did look a little suspect that the brothers waiting until they were about to cross. I think that if BOTH Earl and Steve were showing signs that they weren't on point (and trust they were showing that rather early) then I would have had to be like, "Um, time for a meeting!" with my chapter. They would have had to go earlier in the game. But then again the whole line was not on point at times...let's not forget that beer pong table.

I still stand by my statement that I'm glad that Steve didn't cross, because like I said, the entire time he wasn't on point. He was disrespecting his LBs by not being on time to events, not studying and being on the "up and up" with frat information. He was not on point during pledge session--ya'll remember that extremely early during the process, he was bitchin about having to go to study session with his LBs or spending time with them up in the Union. He threatened his LBs. He sucked all around.

Now Earl, he also sucked in the beginning by acting very spoiled and whiny, and also he had to grapple with his "anger management" problems, but I did see an improvement with him as the process went on. He may not have been serious about it at first, but then he stepped up a little bit. I didn't see a big change in Steve at all...but now he's acting all remorseful because he didn't cross over with everybody else. Hello...this is not a free ride. If the rest of your LBs can step up then he could have done it too.

So while I agree that it could have been handled in a better way (because don't get me wrong, the brothers REALLY could have done that a lot better), Steve didn't deserve to be a brother. But that's just me.

Skeelicious1 06-10-2003 05:17 PM

Earl disrespected a brother days before they were initiated. Earl fought with his LBs right before initiation. They told Earl he was the worst pledge!
I didn't think Steve should have made it but neither should Earl. It's amazing how Earl can be forgiven all of a sudden and not Steve. There is no balance here. Shady, just shady.

gamma_girl52 06-10-2003 05:26 PM

I thought they said that about Steve. I must have missed something.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about Earl. I thought he straightened up some in the end. And again, I totally agree that they way they did Steve was shady. They could have handled that a lot earlier.

I know! I watched the finale this weekend with a couple of my boyfriend's fraternity brothers and they were talking to the TV..."ok, you can let go now....really, let go....are they *ever* going to let go?" lol

hoosier 06-10-2003 07:33 PM

his attitude generally didn't earn him a spot

I was pretty shocked when they actually voted out the pledge, but his poor test score and his attitude generally didn't earn him a spot in the chapter.

I thought the conclusion, with the brothers/new brothers hugging and crying was great, and showed that the effort was worth it.

It seems pretty obvious that there was stuff going on off-camera that we didn't see. I think that MTV just tried to set it up like Earl was going to get kicked off because they wanted it to be a surprise when it was actually Steve.

In all honesty, I think the voting-off process took place AT LEAST a week or two before initiation and MTV just set it up to look like it was right before. I wouldn't be surprised if the MTV timeline was all screwed up with this show.

AXO Alum 06-10-2003 10:51 PM

I think the voting took place earlier also -- I just think that MTV chose to edit it that way to keep the suspense up. Doesn't matter though - to some people, race will always be a factor, even when they are staring you in the eye and bitching that it shouldn't be. I don't think that the shade of his skin kept him out - I think it was clear from the start (based on what we saw) that he did not value the fraternity enough to work for it. He was lazy (how many times did they have to drag him out of bed), disrespectful (girls in the house, answering the phone during the pledge exam, etc.), and he never showed initiative. And hell yeah, not doing well on his pledge test IS a big deal -- if he didn't care enough to learn about his history, how can he continue to improve the fraternity as a brother?

Earl worked his butt off -- yes, he NEEDS some serious anger management -- but you could tell that he loved the fraternity and that he was willing to do what he needed to do to get in. The one thing that he REALLY got pissed over, and supposedly "disrespected" a brother over was because they TOOK HIS CELL PHONE -- that is wrong as hell. That is PERSONAL property, not SXO property - they don't pay his bills. And his grandfather was sick to boot -- I was pledging when my grandfather was near death, and I worried night and day about being in contact with my family about it. If someone woulda told me that I couldn't have my phone, it woulda been over right there and then.

And dumba$$ George on tv saying "he was using his cell phone way too much for personal reasons" was beyond STOOPID. Earl paid for that phone, and the service, and it was HIS to use. Nobody came down and took STEVE's phone away during the PLEDGE EXAM. Now THAT is shady!!

UMgirl 06-11-2003 12:20 AM

SXO already has a black brother :). Who is fine by the way.

I'm confident that the one meeting we did see about Steve being a less than ideal pledge was not the only one. I'm sure it was one of many. In fact, they probably discussed ALL the pledges' progress, but Steve and Earl seemed to be the most debated.

Skeelicious1 06-11-2003 05:12 PM

I guess I missed the shows where Earl worked his butt off. He was just as lazy as the rest of them. He disrespected ALL of his LBs just for shyts and giggles. He disrespected a brother. He was told he was the worst pledge. He threatened to leave several times. I guess I missed the great and wonderful Earl episodes.
Steve was trifling and shouldn't have made it, but Earl shouldn't have either.
