Gusteau 11-07-2010 05:32 PM

^^^What made me laugh was the guy at the bottom working on his sperry tan line.

Benzgirl 11-07-2010 06:02 PM

Guys laying out in the sun make me laugh, period.

Not only were guys laying out, some have that certain baby oil shine to them... either that or Bain de Soleil... (for the San Tropez tan)...

Crap, now that stupid jingle is going to be stuck in my head for a while.

nittanygirl 11-08-2010 11:11 AM

Love antiqued looking pictures. Everyone always looks like they are having so much more fun than in standard color pictures today

Unfortunately, the ones with the decent bodies were the furthest from the camera.

I'm dating myself, but am I the only one that still thinks of these as top siders and not sperry's?

carnation 01-02-2011 02:04 PM

They were Topsiders at MS State in the late 70s!

FSUZeta 01-02-2011 02:40 PM

Sperrys, top siders, and boat shoes are all interchangeable in my vocabulary - fear not!

My dad who is from New Orleans has always called them weejuns.

Gusteau 01-02-2011 04:46 PM

^^That's interesting. I guess they are loafers, though I usually consider weejuns to be a more traditional penny/tassel loafer a la Bass Weejuns.

I wonder if it would be uncouth for me to bring up K-Swiss and Kenneth Cole.

I've been going through historic photos of chapters around the University of Wisconsin- Madison. I've mostly been looking at buildings, but here are a couple of ones with people in them:

This one's going on some invites I'm sending out for our annual Alumnae/Graduating Seniors Spring Lunch. It's 4 Gamma Phi Betas from the class of 1944, just after finishing finals:

And this one I call, "Depression? What depression?!"
It's outside the Kappa Alpha Theta house at 237 Lakelawn Place (since demolished; they're in a different building now).

OMG @ NinjaPoodle's post above. That composite from 1929 is so fantastic!!! The quality of those pictures is unreal.

Not really retro, but Alpha Delta Pi just posted some cute pictures on Facebook. I love the one that screams MACON MAGNOLIA!

You just know that a few mint juleps were consumed afterwards!

It's always a little shocking to me to be reminded of how tiny women used to be back in the day. These pictures are fab!

Those ringer t-shirts were the ugliest things. I had some as a 9 year old and even at that young age realized they were ugly.

honeychile 07-08-2011 03:26 PM

On that AXO composite, Sarah Jane McCormick looks just a little overenthusiastic, doesn't she? If she wasn't a graduating se4nior, you know that she got teased about her picture!
