Pretty much. What I had to do was stand on one leg and then SLOWLY (I started off moving too fast and got fussed at to move slow) go into a seated position onto a bench about 18 inches off the ground and then immediately- and slowly- come back into a standing position all the time on one foot. The first few were not bad, but doing 40 per set was rough.

srmom- paying the membership is step 1. I paid 2 years at my place while traveling even though I never went, but once I got the incentive to get myself back in shape- it was there and waiting. 6 months and almost 60 pounds off later I don't even wonder why I waited. I am just happy I finally got it together.

Today I did 10 miles of hill intervals on an exercise bike and it was a pretty good workout on the upper legs. Followed it with a long walk to cool down. Hand is healing faster every day, and I look forward to tearing it up in the pool next week. I am tired of running!

Just reading your description makes my legs hurt.

Took a leisurely walk today and did a bit of light gardening. It was gorgeous out today - the type of day when you want to call in "sick". (I'm working p/t right now, so I was off today anyway.)

srmom, nope, paying your gym membership doesn't count until you actually go and work out. :p I've thought about joining a gym, but instead I set up my own home gym - stationary bike, elliptical, weight machine, hand weights, a couple of exercise DVDs, and a good pair of walking shoes. Home gym = no excuses.

Do you do triathlons/have you ever thought about it?

I did a 10 mile run today...my race season kicks off in three weeks!

2.25 miles on treadmill [more running than walking], 10 minutes/1 mile on the elliptical, and 10 minutes on the arc trainer.

Been a bit of an off week - haven't been able to get in to the gym much, so I'll take what I can get.

managed to sprain my ankle pretty badly yesterday, so I'm restricted to weight machines for the next week or so

I have given it some thought now that my weight loss goal is nearly done and I am finding myself feeling more competitive when I play racquetball etc. I think I need to compete at something to keep motivated and move forward.

For now I am going to try swimming again- since that is where I have some experience and also the sport I like most. But we'll have to see how well I take to swimming 10,000-15,000 meters a week- likely more in time.

If that proves too monotonous, then triathalons are definitely a possibility. We have a lot of them here in Austin, and training for one offers a good variety (though I am not sure I would be up for a 10 mile run like you just did!)

1 hour of racquetball today followed by 30 minutes of heavy lifting- a refocus in the weightroom to increase my power for swimming. Hand bandages came off today, so hoping to be back in the pool this week...

Swimming is my first sport too. I started triathlon training after shoulder surgery kept me out of the water for a few months. When I returned, it allowed me to cut my time spent in the water to give my shoulder a rest and still compete. It made me a much better runner, too, which got me into the half and full marathon. Tris are also a big ego boost for swimmers since most triathletes are stronger on the bike or run...I'm usually one of the first women out of the water on the swim (which I promptly lose on the bike :))

Sprint tris are a very manageable distance...usually around a 500 swim, 12 mile bike and 5k run.

I have a 45 minute tempo run on tap for this evening.

I walked across the street to the deli for lunch.
