wait.

who is "they?"

This is what makes "you people" middlemen minorities and allows "you" the perfect niche in the economy. Go get 'em, tiger!

Luckily, "black culture" doesn't disappear just because some don't understand.

Speaking for the NPHC, I think we may have dodged a bullet with this one.

*breathes a sigh of relief*

And by "own culture" some of us mean something deeper than just African American culture. Try African diasporic connections.

YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE NPHC.

Stop it.

It really fits in with everything we've said.

Dionysus was candid about how she went about choosing organizations but I'm much more interested in her conceptualization of self, which also goes back to what we were saying.

I put that in there just for you! I knew your ass would take the bait. I can't help that I'm your favorite SGRho, the one you love to hate!:p

I don't hate any SGRho. I just strongly dislike the ones with inferiority complexes who have to lump themselves in with eight other organizations to make themselves feel more relevant.

This is not an organizational problem. This is an individual problem.

Sigma Gamma Rho is perfect. It's the twits that mess it up.

I can buy that there's many black cultures under one umbrella. The part of the "umbrella" you belong to will probably influence which conference of organizations you choose to join...and going buy some of what I read here on GC and PP, which organization within the NPHC you choose to join. I think location matters a lot also. The same person who went to school in Chicago may have a completely different experience with the various Greek systems if they transferred to a school in San Diego.

Didn't I say I put that in there just for you? I was dead serious. I actually think before I write/type.

Now as far as all that other unnecessary isht you wrote:eek:, you said a whole lot more about you than me, especially since you don't know me from jack.

Please find something better to do than e-attack people you don't know.

It seems that there is more racism from Whites than Blacks when it comes to these situations.

If you do not walk in those persons shoes, who are any to belittle them?

They as an individual make their choices, not any of the posters who may want to act snide about it!

People will go to where they feel at ease not because of color.

Get my point?!

OK, I have to interject here. We did have an NPHC sorority on my campus. They were part of Panhellenic Council and had vote on sorority campus affairs (and, the service sorority did not) When rush came along, the NPHC chapter participated in the first day. It was 10 minutes of talking with each chapter on campus. When I moved to the NPHC group, I said hello and asked about the sorority. (Keep in mind I knew very little about Greek life and did not know what was the difference between any of the chapters.) The member of the NPHC GLO said I had to be black to join their organization. I responded, oh, can you tell me a little about your org since I have to be here for the next 10 minutes anyway? I sincerely was curious. She said no and the members ignored all of the rushees that were standing there.

That's a different way of saying what I said earlier:

No matter how much you and your brother love black people (), you still acknowledge that you are Filipino and that there is a "Filipino and/or Filipino-American culture." This doesn't require that Filipinos think, say, and do the exact same things to recreate the culture.

When people begin to overstate the obvious, they overlook the similarities and trends in an attempt to highlight what smart people already know.

(I don't care about organizations anymore so I'm ignoring the rest of your post.)

I agree it's obvious. That's why it's crazy that there's 55 threads about this subject on GC.
