Which lady was which?
I talked to my friend and she agreed to let me share which house was which. I know when I read the other posts I am dying to find out, and most girls choose not to share (which I understand). Anyway thought y'all might like to know.
Alpha Chi Omega - Katherine Hepburn Alpha Delta Pi - Barbara Streisand Alpha Gamma Delta - Dorothy Dandridge Alpha Omicron Pi - Bette Davis Chi Omega - Jane Fonda Delta Delta Delta - Lucille Ball Delta Gamma - Judy Garland Delta Phi Epsilon - Ava Gardner Delta Zeta - Shelley Winters Gamma Phi Beta - Grace Kelly Kappa Alpha Theta - Lauren Bacall Kappa Delta - Audrey Hepburn Kappa Kappa Gamma - Donna Reed Phi Mu - Julie Andrews Pi Beta Phi - Elizabeth Taylor Sigma Delta Tau - Doris Day Sigma Kappa - Mary Tyler Moore Zeta Tau Alpha - Marilyn Monroe I know the houses can kind of run together since there's so many. Hopefully this will clear some things up! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! Greek Love, KDlady |
I forgot!
I almost forgot to mention... My friend is having an amazing time with her new Gamma Phi sisters. She is absolutely loving the new member period, the socials, and all the fun that comes with being in a sorority. I'm so happy she found the home of her dreams! I bought her the cutest keychain with her new letters. Good luck to all the hopeful ladies going through recruitment. Remember: it only takes one!
Much love, KDlady |
Thanks for posting which chapter was which... it was nice to go back. I think we as greeks know that pnms are not going to like every house out there. I appreciate that she was honest with you about the houses she liked and the ones she didn't like. I'm glad that she found her "home". That is what recruitment week is all about!

Loved them all
My friend said she had no problem letting me post which house was which. She feels she gave every house an equal opportunity and honestly enjoyed her time at every house she went to. All of the sororities at UGA are amazing chapters and have beautiful, fun and smart girls. I feel like a lot of people would like to know what a PNM thought of their house. Any criticism I posted or that she mentioned was meant to be constructive. As a member of Kappa Delta on the other side of recruitment I feel this is much more helpful than simply saying everyone was nice... I hope nobody is offended by any of the comments but the way I see it is, there is only one sorority for each girl, she's got to eliminate somehow! I hope this information is more helpful than hurtful.
Best to everyone, KDlady |
I know that some girls in the past have been hurt once groups figure out who is who but I know that for me and the way I see it... it is just like you two both said... why post "ABC was nice" and really mean "ABC was okay but I really didn't feel a connection". It is also helpful to hear that XYZ's skit really didn't pull at my heart strings and that they had too many inside stories during pref.
But I also have thicker skin than most and like to hear things that could be improved. |

While it may not be a key word in the motto of all GLOs; COURAGE is a virtue I'm sure all our Founders admired. And what you are proposing takes COURAGE. What all our Founders did took COURAGE. So maybe we ought to continue to follow in their footsteps and have the COURAGE to challenge the conventional 'wisdom' and try a little innovation in our Greek communities. I am not saying 'rock the boat' just for the sake of rocking it. However, we ought to remember that the ladies who founded women's fraternities and sororities were rocking the proverbial boat just by attending college. Congratulations to all the new Greeks at UGA. I am sure by now they are initiated members and are prepping for the next big round of recruitment! And the cycle of Greek life continues... :-) |
I may be extra cynical today and this thread is pretty old, but the issue often times with girls who drop out of rush is that they didn't like the groups they had left. It might be much harder than you think to get the group to attend the COB party.
I'd say that any sorority that didn't make quota would love to see a big group of friends join, but knowing which of the 1200 pnms really like each other and which have been released by their favorites might be much tougher than you think. I think the groups would be courageous enough to do it, but it's very hard to actually do on a campus as large as UGA's. |
Well, since recruitment didn't work out for a large number of girls from our high school last fall, I'll jump in here. One sorority did spring informal rush and some of the mothers encouraged these 6 or so girls who were close friends to try it, but by that point in time they had already made arrangements to live in apartments next year and frankly, I think were still a little stung over the whole experience. I talked to a couple of the moms and discovered that they were not released heavily in the first couple of rounds and they had dropped some of the chapters where they may had found a home. Then, when they got to the end and only received invitiations from a chapter or two they were not interested in, those sororities previously dropped were no longer options. I don't know if they were advised that they could receive a snap bid, but I believe they all got together and decided to drop out before pref.
My friend's daughter, however, did participate in informal spring rush at UGA as a sophomore and received a bid....and is still on cloud nine with initiation approaching. I can count on two hands (and at least one foot!) the girls from my daughter's class who will be putting themselves out there at UGA this fall, and I am holding my breath that things will work out better for them. |

Bumping another UGA rush thread...since I've been writing recs this week, I figure people will start looking for stories again. :)

This is really helpful to the SEC type recruitment PMNs!
I went through a really large recruitment and it is very intimidating. Gladd you told you freind's story. So glad she got Gamma Phi, that is great. I know she loves it. I liked the honesty of this one because she let you post it. You are a great friend. Of course I am really even more freakd not about recruitment after being gone. Thanks! LOL

SEC PNMs, this is a good one!

When I saw the names, I told my daughter "I hope we are Grace Kelly!"
Congratulations! |
UGA rush...
I rushed at UGA last year (Fall 2006) and dropped out and now i regret it.. I got cut from a lot but I DID get invited back to six after round 1 including two of my faves ( gamma phi beta and delta zeta)but still dropped out. Silly me! BUT i am trying again this year with some newfound rush wisdom thanks to GC; wish me luck ya'll!
