Thanks again!

Congratulations to Peachypie 11 and her daughter. I am glad things turned out so well for them. It sounds like she found her home! As a side note, I am really impressed with all the GLOs at A&M, and both girls should have a grand time in their new sisterhoods. Go, AGGIES!!!

I wanted to express my thanks and appreciation to all the GCers who posted and PMed me last week during those achingingly long days of Recruitment. Your unflagging support to a rookie mom was unwavering, and words cannot begin to express my admiration and appreciation for your true-blue kindness.

TexasDaughter is literally bubbling over with happiness and excitement! She adores her new pledge class and can't stop talking about the genuine kindness of the sisters to the new alphas. Also, she is super-excited to wear her new ADPi t-shirt to school tomorrow for the first day of classes! She's having a grand time bonding with all her new sisters and wants so, so much to be a valued member of her sisterhood.

Incidentally, I've checked out the national website's giftshop and there are some really cute things. Here we go again with the Visacard!

Do the new members live in the dorms on a Panhellenic floor or in suites set aside for each sorority? I had one of those campuses where the pledges moved into the house so I am just curious how that is handled for the new members.

As I understand it, at A&M, the new pledges won't live in their sorority houses until next year. Each sorority has a house (one is in the process of renovating their house). The new members will live in various dorms scattered across campus, which covers a large area.

Most freshman in general live in dorms. Most of the girls that live in the house are sophomore and juniors. I think we had 46 girls live in the sorority house -I think most housed around 42 to 46. I hear it was fun but I owned my house and elected not to live in.

There is a lot of cute stuff isn't there. LOL. I spend way to much at giftmart. :D

Has she started hitting you up on the pin that she wants yet? :)

Here's some advice: When she buys her badge, get the guard that goes along with it. It's an extra safety clasp to keep the badge on your blouse (and to hold dangles if she has any honors or leadership positions)-- you'll thank me later when she tells you about all the girls who didn't pin theirs properly and are in tears searching for their badge on the front lawn after a serenade. The pin without the guard is well-made, but you have to secure it properly.

ETA: While the GiftMart has some great items, they can be a little more $$$ (part of the proceeds do benefit the Foundation which is great and everything b/c it goes to charitable donations and sorority trainings and development, but it is still more money than you'd spend elsewhere). You can collect stuffed lions at Target and present them as gifts for her room and buy letter shirts at the local Greek store near the campus more cheaply.

Also, get in touch with her Diamond Sister and arrange to send along a letter for her to read during initiation or a gift to open from you afterward. She'll be touched that you coordinated the effort.

Cosign on the guard.

Target and Walmart are wonderful places to find lions. OMG I have found oodles from these two stores.

Absolutely love the idea of contacting her diamond sister. That is so sweet!

Here is my advise... at least with AGD badges...

guards... are not foolproof against losing a badge... I had this conversation with a sister last night that is on her third badge and she always had her guard remaining on her without the badge. (I know it could be human error, but...)

The more the badge cost the better the badge will stay. I have the highest costing badge (it was a 21st birthday present) and I have had no issue with the clasp. While others with the least expensive badge have repeatedly lost theirs.

I think that it would have been HIGHLY awesome to have had something from my parents at initiation. Maybe something with the crest, if she can't wear/have that before hand. Great Idea!

I don't have a guard-guard with my pin, I do however have what we used to call the "bubble guard" that comes with the pin. It looks like a tiny Hershey kiss.

TexasMom, I am Aggie ADPi AC 06 too! Tell your daughter that her Yankee sister says hi!

khfadpi 01-25-2007 05:59 PM

Just read the thread and started crying. My daughter is rushing now at a University in NC ( my alma mater ) and she has to pick her 2 favorites tonight after 3rd round. I hope the ADPi's ( that's my chapter!!) want her back. They are her 1st choice. It will kill me if she gets cut. I am a nervous wreck..
