That Dr sounds like he's old & senile - just doesn't care what comes out of his mouth. I saw this in the news: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050902/...en_pregnancies Ohio High School Has 64 Pregnant Students CANTON, Ohio - Thirteen percent of the female students at Timken Senior High School in Ohio are pregnant. High school senior Monica Selby thought she would be busy this year planning for college, not preparing for the birth of her first child. "I've been crying every day and every night. I keep on blaming myself for this," said the 18-year-old Selby, who is six months pregnant. She cries about starting classes this week at Timken Senior High School with a bulging belly, about the emotions of planning an adoption, about becoming part of a statistic that has snagged the nation's attention: 64 of Timken's 490 female students — 13 percent — are pregnant. The statistic at the school in the heart of this old steel city contrasts with a decade of declining teen pregnancy rates nationwide. But teen pregnancy experts say the problem is not exclusive to Timken High. Experts, parents and students themselves struggle to explain why such pockets of high teen pregancy rates appear. Are teens getting appropriate sex education? Do they have access to birth control and are they using it consistently? Has the stigma of unwed motherhood lost its edge? "This might be a school that is forthright with its problems while others are not," said Jay Green, chairman of the Education Reform department at the University of Arkansas. "But this is a widespread issue." Green wrote a study last year for the conservative New York-based Manhattan Institute for Policy Research that found 20 percent of urban teenagers have been pregnant, compared with 14 percent of suburban teens. Urban teens as a whole don't use birth control as consistently or often, according to his research, and often have less to lose financially and socially than those in the suburbs. But Green couldn't say whether those factors applied to Timken. The school of about 1,000 students draws teens from across the neighborhood and economic lines in the state's ninth largest city. Eric Wilson, 18, who works at a hot dog shop a few blocks from the school while making plans to get his GED and caring for his 2-year-old son, said the spotlight on Timken is magnifying an old problem. "My mom had a kid when she was in school and now I have a kid," he said. "It goes back to how you were raised. Down here, it's not looked too down upon because a lot of parents had kids when they were kids." Last school year, both high schools in the city's district reported 55 pregnancies. Ninety-nine pregnancies are expected in the district this year, most of them at Timken, where expecting students get six weeks of maternity leave. "This has gotten to horrible proportions. I wish I knew the answer to why it's happening," principal Kim Redmond told the city's daily newspaper The Repository. Redmond did not return several messages left by The Associated Press. Joanne Hinton, whose 16-year-old daughter, Raechel Hinton, is eight months pregnant, said she believes the school's abstinence-based sex education program isn't enough. "It's time to take the blinders off and realize that these kids are having sex," she said. "Obviously, abstinence is not working. If we have to, just give them condoms." Abstinence-based programs have been growing nationwide at schools over the past few years. In Ohio, the Bush's administration and the state's health department have awarded $32 million in grants to Ohio agencies for abstinence education since 2001. Hinton stresses that she doesn't condone teenage sex and that her daughter doesn't fit the mold some may think pregnant teens come from: The Hinton household has two loving parents with a strong relationship who asked the straight-A Raechel "45 times a week if she was having sex, doing drugs, drinking. We were constantly checking on her." Raechel, who plans to return to the 10th grade at Timken after delivering and completing an adoption, said many students are sexually active and need more information about birth control. "It can happen to anybody no matter who you are, not just bad girls," she said. |
Something Is in the Air ...
As a 32-YO whose biological clock is winding down fast, I am getting very tired of this "Just Another Girl on the IRT" bull****.
Here is the gist in the order they appeared in the papers: 1) On Tuesday, a newborn boy (alive) is found in an air shaft. The 18-year-old mom is arrested. 2) On Wednesday, another baby (dead at least a year) is found in the same air shaft. 3) On Thursday, police announce that the 18-year-old is the mother of both babies. 4) Today (Friday), the girl's father is charged with raping her and fathering both babies. TTT/Babyperson dies after mother throws him in dryer

http://www.wdsu.com/news/5482076/detail.html BOGALUSA, La. -- A mother was booked on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly placing her 3-month-old son in a clothes dryer and turning it on. The infant had third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body and suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, the St. Tammany Parish coroner said. Police Sgt. Darryl Darden said Lakeisha Adams, 18, called police to her home on Monday to report that someone had killed her child. When officers arrived, they found Jailand Adams on a sofa. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Darden said Adams admitted during questioning to putting the infant in the dryer and turning it on, but did not say why. Adams also has a 1-year-old child who was placed in state custody, police said. If convicted, Adams faces death by injection or a life sentence. The first-degree murder charge is mandatory under Louisiana law because the victim was under age 12. |
Exquizit told me about this incident this morning.

Pic of the dryer mom
I was reading a followup, and she allegedly said she put the babyperson in the dryer because he wouldn't stop crying!!! WTF? They cry -- that's how they communicate.

I won't say what's really on my mind, but here's an idea. What they need to do is make her squat down and wrap her arms around her legs; next, they need to tie her up with duct tape all around, including her mouth, cram her into the dryer and turn it on, and see if she likes it...wait, the dryers not done yet.

Father questioned after children found dead in blazing car
Monday, April 3, 2006; Posted: 1:21 p.m. EDT (17:21 GMT)
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The bodies of two young children were found in a burning car Sunday, and police suspect their father set the blaze, officials said. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the bodies of two children in the sport utility vehicle on a downtown alley, said Brian Humphrey, a fire department spokesman. Their names and ages were not immediately released. "There were two individuals that were placed in a car -- two kids -- and the car was set on fire," police Sgt. Lee Sands said. Read the rest here ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How could you do that your own kids? Put them in foster care, giving them up for adoption, let Big Momma raise them....something! But to set them on fire in a car leaves me speechless. This may sound terrible but I hope that demon of a father at least gave them something to knock them completely out so they wouldn't feel thing as he burned them to death. :( |

Up In Their Grills
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0410062teeth1.html
Feds fail in bid to seize dental ornaments from accused drug dealers APRIL 10--Federal prosecutors last week tried to reach into the mouths of two accused drug dealers and remove ornamental "grills" affixed to the men's teeth. Arguing that the gaudy "cosmetic dental appliances" were evidence of ill-gotten gains, investigators convinced a Tacoma judge to sign a warrant authorizing their seizure. In a March 29 affidavit supporting the seizure, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent stated that grills were "symbols which drug traffickers purchase to portray their status in the criminal community." The affidavit, a copy of which you can find below, apparently convinced Magistrate J. Kelley Arnold to order the grills (which can reportedly cost up to $25,000) removed from the mouths of inmates Flenard Neal, Jr. and Donald Lewis. But when lawyers for the men protested the seizure of the grills--which are permanently bonded to the teeth of Neal and Lewis--Arnold issued an April 4 stay of his order, because removal "would unduly compromise their dental health." Since the prosecution's seizure demand was filed under seal, defense attorneys only learned of the government action when Neal and Lewis called to report they were about to be transported to a Seattle dentist for the extraction procedure. Beware of Raid
Wife catches husband, woman together, attacks with can of bug spray
ATHENS, Ala. That'll teach them for being unfaithful. Seems police in Athens charged a local woman with domestic violence for clobbering her husband and another woman on their heads with a can of Raid bug spray after she found them together. Police said a -- quote -- "nosy neighbor" called the woman at work on Friday and told her husband was at their apartment having an affair with another woman. The woman left work and went home where she found the two together. Officers said the unnamed woman who was struck needed stitches for a head wound, and the husband was also cut but didn't require medical treatment. 26-year-old Cornelia Cottrell Smith of Athens was arrested and was released from the City Jail after posting a one-thousand dollar bond. |
