Adding No Doubt to the list, don't think they have been mentioned...

I like No Doubt, but nope, they are not soul (Don't Speak notwithstanding- nice tune, worrrst lyrics). They make great pop music, not soul music. |
I think we are mixing up "white" artists that are crossover (i.e. "black folks liking some rock n roll) vs. blue eyed soul.
Queen - crossover "Another One Bites The Dust"(one of the best baselines ever!) Pat Benatar - crossover "She belts out those hits" "Love is a Battlefield, Shadows of the Night, Fire and Ice" (I like her) No Doubt - crossover Maroon 5 - crossover The Police - crossover (Love "Roxanne &, Voices Inside My Head) Lenny Kravitz (our own hybrid :))crossover, but definitely a rocker Hall and Oates - Blue eyed soul, with a spash of pop rock Robin Thicke - Blue eyed soul Teena Marie - Blue eyed soul Jon B - Blue eyed soul (underrated, CD's are consistenly good, needs a comeback soon) Joss Stone - Blue eyed soul Michael McDonald - Blue eyed soul |
I just saw a whole rack of Backstreet Boys/NSync vids... guuh... I was drooling... lawd take control
|
Teena Marie and Freddie Mercury (Queen) hands down.
|
I'd have to say Adrian Hood... He sings "Brown Eyed Blues"... it's on the Daddy's Little Girl Soundtrack... Loves it!
|
I saw Joss Stone yesterday at the Now and Zen Festival in San Francisco and sistah girl to' it up!
Here are a couple of the photos I took (I was in the front row) Joss (who always performs barefoot) http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...9-23-07034.jpg her backup singers http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...23-07024-1.jpg I gotta admit I was mainly there to see my man James Blunt, but man, Joss was off the chain! :D |
Marc Broussard...LOL... Love and Happiness

LOVE Pat Benatar, Love Maroon 5, the Police, Hall & Oates.... Lawd havemercy, I would LOVE to get Lenny Kravitz in a room alone for a couple two three days, um, hours, er, I mean minutes..... :p dang, what was I saying??? LOL Oh yes.... I totally agree with VirtualViolet about Jon B. He was consistently good, and I would love to see a comeback (but he did have a CD out what, in 05 or 06?) Great topic, I could talk about music for days! :D |
Don't forget Bobby Caldwell from back in the day! Some of you may be old enough to remember, at least I hope so!:)

BLUE EYED SOUL
Didn't have a chance to read all of the threads but I don't think they these 2 were mentioned....
Michael McDonald......the duet with Patti Labelle was a staple in my household growing up....and even his stuff with the Doobie Brothers and his solo stuff very soulful... I am not sure if a lot of people know about her but...Shoshanna Bean....she played Elphaba (wicked witch of the west) in the Broadway play Wicked can sing her A$$ off...if you get a chance to hear her do Aretha's "Ain't No Way" you will be amazed....she can blow!! Check her out! Amazing! LoJ Phi Beta Sigma Beta Rho Sigma (Charlotte Alumni) "I believe in all that Phi Beta Sigma represents and I will herald and defend it even against the world." - Brother A.M.
