should i be saying this...
okay i am from a small college and there are only four soroities, so our formal rush is pretty informal. anyways, i think it was the night before preference, and i was at a house i really didnt like (i just had not clicked with any of the girls yet), but i really tried to be nice and give this girl a chance, smiles and all. Well it was philanthropy night, so we were making this quilt, and we had to sit on the floor, well after like 45 minutes of sitting cross legged my legs fell asleep, not wanting to look wierd i really tried to stand up normally. well not three steps into walking i fell and landed right on my back, i tried to laugh it off, but sure enough the girl gave me a strange look and i was cut the next morning. oh well i love my sisters, and i am so happy i am here!

I have NEVER heard of someone showing the bathroom during a house tour. Is this common? |

I didn't know that such a thing was unheard of or not normally done. |

we have 6 chapters and three rounds of formal recruitment, and after the first round I was cut from four groups. two of them I know it was grades, well.... one of those might have been the fact that the first thing I said to the girl who was rushing me was "i think i just started my period, do you have a tampon?" but they also didn't invite anyone back with lower than about a 3.2.
in the other two groups I was paired with another PNM who in the first chapter room (five of the sororities have chapter rooms in a dorm here) we went to was really good friends with the girl who was rushing us, so I was barely spoken to. And then in our second party we were together with another pair of PNMs and four rushers, and they all paid attention to her, and the rest of us were ignored (we all three were not invited back to that group). anyway, after the second day, philanthropy day, I was cut from A-Phi, and I think it was because I was talking about being an A-Phi legacy to all the girls I talked to. I wasn't bragging, but every single girl asked me why I was going through rush at every single chapter and party, and everytime I said "oh it's really important to my grandmother that I go through rush, and I'd really like to do something if it's so important to her" because that's why I first started to rush, then I really really got excited about joining a group. then of course they would ask if she was in a sorority, and which one, etc. well... I never told my grandmother if I was for sure going through rush or not, so she never filled out a legacy notice form/letter thing to turn into the A-Phi chapter here, so I think they might have thought I was pretending to be a legacy to look cool or something. I think they were also not having fun when my grandmother called them on pref and got really upset, demanding to know why her granddaughter had been cut, and why she hadn't been notified first. i was mortified when I found that out, but oh well. I had a lot of fun and connections from day one at the ADPi house, so no big deal. |

I didn't get cut...but I should have cut them..and they were scared...
Okay, so this isn't a story about the GLO that cut me during rush, but this is about the opposite...The GLO that feared I would cut them during rush because of their blooper.
I was rushing a couple GLOs during informal rush. I was at ADPi's preference party at the local hotel enjoying great conversations. They had several round tables throughout the room where several sisters could sit and rush a girl at the same time, instead of one on one. Well I was sitting with the sisters, eating cheese and whatnot, when one of the girls asked what brought me to UNT. Well I mentioned that some of my family had gone there and that I i basically was going there because of vacinity to home. She then proceeded to ask my major and tell me hers. She was an Interior Design major. I mentioned that my aunt was the same and that she had just graduated. Well this brought on a whole other conversation. She then asked if my aunt had ever mentioned this one lady in there class, since we are almost sure she and this sister were classmates. I said no and she proceeded to tell me how horrible she was and how she would bring her teenage children to class. They were disruptive and undisciplined. SHe went on and on...then mentioned this lady was only getting a degree to look good in the political eye. And, that she was running for some local office. At this point in the conversation, I let the sister know that not only had she run for a local office, but that she had gotten it. And that the teenage children were probably there for a good reason, or she wouldn't have brought them. And that I would tell my Aunt hi for her the next time I see her. The table fell silent. At this point, i know they were kicking themselves and assuring themselves that I would not take a bid from them. Funny thing though, i thought it was hilarious. I didn't particular care for that aunt either. LOL It turned into a great story at future rush workshops of what not to say at rush parties. The sister and I became good friends and always laugh about this every year during recruitment. :) And in case you cant tell...I took the bid. :) The great aunt I do care about was rather pleased. (She was ADpi in 36) |

I know one time we all thought this one girl didn't want to be talking to us cause she would alwyas be "wandering" and looking here and there... while we talked... come to find out she has ADD... |

A few of my sisters loved the show too, so maybe that was a factor why I didn't get cut. I wish I could add a funny acolade (sp) to this thread but I only went to my house. It was spring rush, I could go to any house I wanted. But I was happy where I was and I'm happy of the choice I made. |
