My odd HS story:
Location: Elkins, WV
Randolph County decided to consolidate two high schools (Elkins High and Coalton High) and build a brand new school. So my 10th grade year (1993-94) I went to: Forest Hills High School Colors: Maroon, Grey, and Navy Blue Mascot: Timberwolves The county spent loads of money on making everything in the school the new colors, bought new desks, team uniforms, EVERYTHING. Well, this new school name did not sit well with Elkins HS alums, so in the next school board election, the majority elected to the board were EHS alums, whose first action as board members was to change the name, colors, and mascot back to their beloved: Elkins High School Colors: Black and Orange Mascot: Tigers (original, huh?) Graduating class: about 200 Class of 1996 The county had to spend MORE money to buy new team uniforms ONE YEAR after buying the ones for FHHS... Oh, and there are about 200 poor souls out there who graduated from FHHS, a place that existed for one year. |
