I am going to try this...why I don't know...but here it goes. I do take it personally when someone tells a group of young women they are the bottom of the bottom or not quite "top" tier.

Why? Because I teach young women every day. Every day I see a teenage girl struggle because she doesn't feel quite good enough. Every day I see a teenage girl skip lunch because she feels if she were five pounds lighter, she might be good enough. Every day I see a girl stay with a boy who treats her less than she deserves because she feels she's the bottom of the bottom and he's popular. Every day I see the effects of labeling and stereotyping and I hate it. My students are more than test scores, they are more than a tier, they are more than what they know.

LM, stop spreading and upholding stereotypes. You have not personally met every young women in every chapter at UT. You may think you know, but you have no idea. This comes from a woman in a chapter that was not "top" tier but we had intramural champions, an Indy 500 princess, a pageant girl, several campus leadership positions. We did not care what fraternity boys said or where others felt we belonged on some social status continuum. We had one of the strongest sisterhoods on campus and still do as alumnae.

The first thing I think of when people mention Alpha Phi at Texas is the 2003 television documentary program Freshman Diaries. As far as I ever saw of that show, the campus Greek system was not mentioned even though it appeared to me (and one had to look very carefully) one young women featured in the show became a new member pledge in Alpha Phi.

My daughter was upset when she wast cut from a house that she had her heart set on, but she enjoyed college life, made friends and kept going on down the road and is now having a wonderful time in her sorority. And she isn't imploding because she is in a self-described mid tier house.

And all of the girls who are in houses called "bottom tier" mostly don't care about those labels (but you all do), because the tiers aren't about self worth or human value and most people know that. Maybe sorority rankings are about financial philanthropic goals, campus leadership positions, family wealth and education level, the quality of high school one attended, SAT scores or just plain ol' connections or perceived Western-style beauty standards...or a mix of all of those things and more.

Listen, keeping score is a good thing. And all stereotypes contain a kernel of truth....and....that's OK, too......goodness. I don't know...I think the 'thin skin' lies elsewhere for sure! Did you give this same lecture to your sorority sister who dared to particpate in a pageant....which ranks everything? Or the intramural team that was subject to...ranking? And did she or the team need therapy to deal with the trauma of....being ranked?? lol
And this entire post is what is commonly known as irony, folks.

You really are something. Just like in the last thread, you don't know when to stop. Comrades True nailed it: shallow, indeed.

There's a difference between knowing something and hearing it said and seeing it written over and over and over and over again. And having it on the internet for people to read it for years to come over and over and over and over again.

If you honestly don't get that and honestly think the way you're conducting yourself is something to be proud of, I don't know what else to tell you.

Alpha Phi at UT. She has since been on here recommending which schools they NOT colonize at so they don't damage their "brand" and helicopter mom-ing, trying to find out when and how to buy her daughter a badge, as if the chapter itself was incapable of handling that.

LM, I hope you will consider stepping away from the internet. I can't imagine APhi added too many women via COB. You have posted all kinds of identifying information about your daughter. It wouldn't take much for your posts to come to the attention of the chapter, and for the chapter to figure out whose mom you are. I am sure you would feel terrible if your daughter's Greek experience was compromised because of your lack of online judgment. As you yourself have posted, UT is exceptionally competitive, so a chapter can't allow one of its own members (via her mother) to cause embarrassment or unwanted attention. Even your posts supporting your daughter's pledgeship are overbearing. I am glad that you are excited for your daughter, but you are unintentionally bringing discredit to Alpha Phi and your daughter could pay the price for that. I am sure you think everyone on here is just being mean to you, but I post this out of genuine concern.

No, because I was thinking that too. I had earlier even typed that out, but the chapter probably had no clue. Someone's true colors show over time. But unfortunately, with the short new member periods, the chapter won't fully realize the caliber of people this mother daughter duo are and what that will mean for them in the future when this girl is an initiated member and mom is overly involved in their affairs.

It makes me angry that someone who would drop out of recruitment after being left with options originally considered "less than" would then accept a bid from one of them. It's disgusting and offensive to me.

What I find particularly funny is Longhorn Mom's commentary on every subject under the sun related to greek life (such as recommending where a national shouldn't colonize) when she herself was not greek.
