I really, really want to learn how to fly. I really do. Lessons are expensive, though. I wish I would have taken advantage if this when I was in undergrad at UND.

Maybe I should buy one of those Microsoft flight sims when I get a better computer. I hear they're really realistic. It's almost like flying the real thing.

One of my friends did that while she was in flight school and I set the whole rig up for her (joystick, pedals, etc) and apparently it was worth it...she has been flying for the past year and a half now.

Wow, so it really is like flying the real thing. I didn't know there were other things to go with it. I don't understand computers, so I know I wouldn't know how to set any of that up. I guess, I would have to get used to the arrow keys on the keyboard. When I graduate next year, and I'm all done with my residency, I definitely want to start taking lessons.

Speaking of flying, I'm in the process of downloading Dogfights seasons one and two from iTunes. I can't wait until it's done so I can start watching them.:)

Nerd rant: Arabia and France make up my Northern border, but we all hate each other, so I can't get into Northern Africa.

Screw you guys.

Rant: Ya know, it's really hard to believe that some people don't feel that animals have emotions. I mean, all animals and people have the same core emotion systems in the brain. Most pet owners probably already know this, but I'll still bet some researchers and even some vets, still don't believe animals have emotions. The first thing I tell them is that some of the same psychiatric medications that work for humans also work for animals. Oh, and I've dissected a pig's brain before, and unless you are an expert, it's kind of hard to tell the difference between the lower parts of the animals brain and the human brain. Oh, and to the vet who debated with me about this last Friday, he goes "human beings have a bigger neocortex", umm yes, we do, but that's not where the core emotions are located. We were talking about animal emotions, were we not? Ugh, some people.

Stanford Cuts down its library...

Guess this is one way to tighten your belt. Stanford University has opted to drastically reduce the catalog of physical volumes within its Engineering Library down from its original 80,000 to a svelte 10,000 copies. Before you cry foul and analogize between this and the prep school that threw out all its paper books, note that we're mostly talking about periodicals here, which tend to be used for quick references -- something that the newly digitized and searchable copies will probably make a lot easier. This action was prompted when the University noticed a large proportion of its leafy volumes hadn't left their shelves for over five years, and now the librarians are all aflutter with excitement about using the freed up space and resources for more productive causes. Such as educating us on the unappreciated benefits of indexing.

I like that. If they're periodicals and the students have access to Lexis-Nexis and other online educational resource databases, I don't see where it would be bad at all. When I was in grad school I was 100% more likely to go to Lexis-Nexis than I was to go pull out a periodical.

So with the year that Apple and Android are having so far, with iPhone fans leaving to get Andriod platform devices is it ok to say that Android Fanboys are becoming the "new" Apple Fanboys?

How soon will Android 'snobbery' replace iPhone 'snobbery'? hehehe

There are too many types of android phones, functional Operating Systems or versions of the OS, and different mods for that to happen.

Live-in does not like my Evo (he calls it a "clown phone" because it's too big), but he has his Nexus One and loves it.

If anything I can imagine infighting between users of different makers, models, mods by the carrier and phonemaker, mods by different developers, etc.

At least with iPhone users being snobs, people that use 1st Gen iPhones are just as snobby as those who use 4th Gen... That won't happen with Android users.
