What was with the redheaded puppet and crazy-eyed Mom at the Oklahoma pageant? And the girl who went onstage and did some cartwheels and then tried to sing Mary Had a Little Lamb? Where do they find these freaks?

I thought Jaclyn was adorable, but she's going to be a fiesty one when she grows up. At least her parents seemed a little more grounded than the others.

I've never had anything to do with pageants, but I know that in Irish dance, most dresses are second hand, until you get to about prelim champion. I paid $2500 for my dress + shipping from Ireland, so I made sure I took more care of that thing than I did myself. I wore my dress for the minimum amount of time I had to at a feis, kept it in the double layer protective case at home, and made sure it was always safe. While it might be so extreme, I'm guessing it's a similar situation in pageant dresses. Once you retire from Irish dance, or you want a new dress, you sell the old one to pay for the new one. It's pretty common to see ID dresses that were owned for 2+ years, but only worn 4-7 times.

There's not much Irish dancing here, but I've always thought about making not only pageant dresses, but ice skating costumes. I'll have to think about Irish dancing now, though when I Googled some of the dresses my eyes popped. That might be a little much for me! But they're gorgeous!

The older sister reminded me of the actress Hallie Hirsch.

YES! I couldn't think of actress's name, only that she was Rachel Greene on ER.

Didn't know that they did not go to college. I wonder why not?

Because many of them are, to use a completely un-PC term, PWT.

GC used to have a perpy pageant contestant. Oh, the memoriez.

Sadly that KD perp had a daughter with yet another babydaddy and now has her on the pageant circuit. PWT indeed.

Yes! I have seen the pictures!:eek::eek:

I've seen my share of not-so-cute kids, but why make up your baby girl like a corpse?

BAckbOwlsgIrl 01-27-2011 12:19 AM

Some of the Mom's should be contestants on Biggest Loser!
Brenna was a piece of work. Where is the Super Nanny when you need her?

KSUViolet06 02-17-2011 01:14 AM

I wonder if any of these people realize that if you spend $5,000 and you win Grand Whatever Supreme and cash prize for that is $2,000--you, um, didn't actually WIN anything.

I'm slightly disturbed by tonight's mom saying "Thesee are good practice for my daughter's future. She's eventually going to be a wife and mom. Pageants are good practice for finding a husband because your husband has needs and he's going to expect you to look like this all the time." WTF?

KSUViolet06 02-17-2011 02:13 AM

A lot of moms use the rationale of "oh I just want her to become more confident/outgoing."

I'm not sure if they realize that there are TONS of activities that help kids to become "more outgoing" that do not involve spray tans/make up/creepiness.

Just say what you want to say, which is "she is doing these because I want her to do them." lol.
