I feel awfully nervous all of a sudden. Things are now mostly out of my hands, and I hate feeling out of control of something that has become such an important project to me. It's my baby right now ya know? I'm also nervous because Mary from Gamma Phi is going to be extremely involved in this, and I can't help but be worried that she doesn't want this to happen and thus will not be of assistance. I'm getting paranoid and worrying that she's going to sabatoge it or something. I honestly can't imagine why an organization wouldn't want to come to campus. Well, I guess I can. Our statistics are great- lots of interested people but not many available spaces. But my school's reputation regarding Greek matters is less than welcoming. Apparently, up until something like ten years ago, UCSC sent letters out to all of the national frats and sororites expressing their complete lack of interest in allowing colonization- ie they basically told them to stay away! But I think this will work out well. I hope I hope I hope!!! Thanks for listening to me vent everyone!

Corina,
It sounds like the university is behind the expansion and once they tell the NPC about it, there will be no stopping it. Don't worry about your friend. She is an intern and reports to the 'boss' who, as it so happens, is in favor of your proposal. Keep the faith! Barbara |
if "mary" is really your friend she will want you to succeed no matter what. Even if it maybe in oposition to what her organization wants. I think you should include her in the process, maybe she can convince her chapter that this is a good idea. You are doing a great job, just let the process work itself out.

I'm with Barb on this one. Sounds to me like you and John had a great meeting, and that he is behind you 100%, becoming your advisor and such. While Mary may play a role, she's just the underling, and if John wants this to happen, and it sounds as if he does, then once you do the expansion process, things will just roll the way they normally do :)
You're doing such a great job Corina, and I couldn't be prouder of you!! |
Mary's JOB is to help with this, and if she doesn't, she will have to answer to John. Its John who really counts here, he will be the one supervising Mary.
Keep in touch with him, let him know you want to be in on it every step of the way--explain that its your baby and you're nervous and would be happy to do anything at all that can help. You're doing great! Hang in there! Amy |
keep it up
it all sounds so good.
don't let your fears get to you. it is your baby. stay on the path. when it's done, it will be well worth your while. You know that. be brave and hang in. we are with you. mmcat  :p :) ;) |
Sounds like everything's going well... don't be nervous :) As far as those letters saying "stay away from UCSC" - Gamma Phi colonized anyway, I think you said there's a national fraternity already on campus, and 2 more have expressed interest in colonizing... plus, 10 years is a long time. Ancient history... ignore it.
In you, I see the spirit of the founding sisters of my local sorority. They'd wanted to go national, but Panhel denied their request... a lot of people would have just given up, but they formed a local sorority, and 2 years later they got their wish and we became part of AEPhi. They didn't give up, and neither should you! You are amazing - keep up the good work! :) |
Thank you all so much for your support, I can't say that enough. As of right now, the status of Greek life on campus:
1 multicultural frat and one 1 multicultural sorority Gamma Phi Beta Theta Chi TKE, Pike, and one Hispanic oriented GLO are all expressing interest in having fraternity colonies on campus. When I was in the meeting, John told me that it looked as though, including me, there was 4 interests in new GLO on campus. I was so relieved when he told me that the other three were frats! I know I should be happy, the more the merrier, but right now I want my project to get completed. After my stuff is taken care of I really hope we can get more Greek life on campus. I'm going to revise my letter to NPC and take it to John for our meeting on Tuesday....is there anything else I need to do? I swear, if I put as much effort into my schoolwork as I have been into this sorority, I would be set! Oh! We have basically been established as a local sorority on campus- only one more form needs to be turned in, and I wrote an amazing constitution (if I do say so myself), and I wanted to share with you our name for now. Obviously this will change if we affiliate, but as of right now we are Nu Beta Omicron- NBO. Never Be Ordinary. I think it's a good founding principle for what is going to be something very very different on my campus. I'll keep you posted! love, Corina |
Congratulations! You are a very clever and enthusiatic young lady...an asset to any GLO!:D
