Well, I"m happy with tonight's results!

AXO Alum 05-02-2007 11:27 PM

I really like Jordin - while last night wasn't her best, I don't think she deserved to go home. While I really do like Chris, I think the time to go was obvious. I am surprised about Phil, but not upset in the least.

And now a word from the "uncultured" viewpoint - I don't like LaKisha. Haven't liked her since "Diamonds are Forever" and last night didn't help either.

Tippiechick 05-02-2007 11:58 PM

Just like to say that Bon Jovi is STILL TEH HOTNESS!

Now, Slippery When Wet will be on my IPOD all flippin' day tomorrow.

risingstar 05-03-2007 10:58 AM

My Final Two Cents until Tuesday......my bet will be that Blake goes home next week and it will be down to the Show-stopping three. After that, there is no telling, but I honestly think Melinda may be the last one standing. But who cares????? All of them have contracts already waiting on the table, waiting for them to get booted off. And when you think about it, when you win A.I., when you cut your first album, you have NO input. Why would you want to win a contract like that? At least, when you shop the thousands of contracts waiting on the table, you can negotiate and keep a level authority for your album. So I honestly think that being the top 5 is just as good as winning, because really, you have made it. Look at the past "losers". Jennifer Hudson is a prime example.

MTSUGURL 05-03-2007 02:40 PM

I'm not ready to see Blake go. I loved his performance this week. I was pretty happy with Chris and Phil leaving. Now if LaKiesha would just go away... Pretty sure it will be Jordin and Melinda in the final 2.

I'd rather see Jordin and LaKisha go home before Blake does.

I wonder if Chris and Phil's fan bases will work to keep him in?

ABBA week next week aside, it looks like it'll be interesting.

And I can't wait to see who sings Fernando.

There was something in the air that night...
The stars were bright...
Fernando...

I remember Chris Daughtry saying that not winning American Idol was the best thing that could have happened to him. He seems to be doing well. :)

I thought it was a dance theme with Barry Gibb as "guest lecturer"? I'd actually prefer ABBA week!

My bad if it isn't. I didn't even get to watch the Results Show.

Someone on another MB I read mentioned it was ABBA week...but now that you mention Barry as their mentor, I don't know...?

ETA: She's since recanted her statement about ABBA. What a shame. :( I was looking forward to that too.

I agree... his debut album easily outsold Taylor & Kathryn's.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think it really matters who wins anymore... some of the non-winners have gone on to beat record sales of the "winners" anyway.

PM_Mama00 05-05-2007 06:57 PM

The winner will be LaKisha or Melinda. It's a black woman's turn. Everytime I explain this to people they are like "ahh whatever"... but really I believe it's set up.

Kelly- white woman
Ruben- black man
Fantasia- black woman
Carrie- white woman
Taylor- white man

(I think I have those out of order and am missing someone)

jitterbug13 05-05-2007 07:13 PM

I don't think race matters in winning AI. It will be someone who is NOT from the South (if you consider Texas and OK to be a part of the South).

Kelly: Austin
Ruben and Taylor: AL
Fantaisa: NC
Carrie: OK

And considering Kathrine was the first member of the final two that was not from the South, I think that the runner up won't be from the South either.

jitterbug13 05-06-2007 06:18 PM

Thanks to the News and Observer...

This proves my point (about North Carolina and Alabama).

This is hilarious!!!! :D :D

But what about a mixed race woman like Jordin? It's really time for that...and guess the poor Asians and Latinos will never have a chance...:p ;)

Lol I thought Jordin was Latina!

Have they ever had Asians become final members besides the guy that, I think, was first kicked off? William Hung doesn't count.

Bella_Petit 05-08-2007 04:01 PM

What about the Season 3 finalist? Deana DeGarmo (sp?)
Was she Latin?

I think Diana DeGarmo is italian, not latina. Maybe RJ Helton from season one is latino...?

It's a shame that Mario Vasquez quit before the final twelve a few years ago. He was an early favorite.
AJ Tablado this year was also good...but unfortunately cut before the top 12. What a shame!

AXO Alum 05-08-2007 10:11 PM

Tonight was ehh at best. Jordin sounded GREAT on the first song - the 2nd one, not so much. I liked Blake's second song -- funny that Randy said the beat box gets old. When Blake wasn't doing it, Randy kept saying "bring it back" - whatever... Melinda was good on both, but she is much better than "good" so I was a bit disappointed. LaKisha... well, she almost had me into it on the 2nd song, but then she had to go and screw it up by shouting at everybody during the last chorus. I really hope that she goes home.

Anybody else ONLY watch the last 5 min of the results show? They were talking about this on the radio (except they were talking about Dancing with the Stars) - the guy said that he only watched the last 5 min because the rest was just filler. The girl said he was crazy and that EVERYONE watches the whole results show. I can't believe people would sit through all that, except if your favorite singer was performing or something. I prefer the last 5 minutes :)

Random, but I thought Kelly was from Mansfield (which is around Arlington, TX).. for some reason I remember the news making a big deal about when the family home went up for sale (since obviously nothing else newsworthy was going on at the time  )

It doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but I was just throwing it out there.

RBL 05-09-2007 10:08 AM

i hope Blake goes tonight.. he is the weakest vocalist left... Phil was better than this dude

I know, but I always heard she was from Austin.

whatever.

peace out LaKisha... I think Blake is next.

Y'all, why is Blake wearing a tuxedo tee? He's still my favorite, but DUDE, REALLY?

I dunno..

For some reason I see Jordin going before Blake does. Something tells me that America would rather keep him in the competition.

ΑΓΔSquirrel10 05-10-2007 12:15 AM

I think that Blake's going next, leaving Melinda and Jordin in the final 2. I think that Jordin's going to win. She's definitely the strongest singer out of the 3 of them.

AGDee 05-10-2007 12:25 AM

I think Melinda has the best voice of any of the contestants but that Jordin has a better "Idol" type image overall.. age, appearance, attitude, etc. I think Blake will end up in the final 2 because the teeny bopper girls think he's cute.

Unregistered- 05-10-2007 02:53 AM

Poor Blake. It was so hard to hear him singing. Destiny's Child was definitely drowning him out.

I just can't see what's so special about Jordin. Yes, she can sing, but it's just that. She doesn't have Melinda's oomph and Blake's ability to be unique. Based on the judges' comments this season, I really think that simply singing well doesn't necessarily = winning AI.

sdsuchelle 05-10-2007 03:23 AM

I LOVE BLAKE!

I don't like Jordin, mostly because she's super religious and pro-life and not afraid to show it. Not my cup of tea.

RBL 05-10-2007 07:40 AM

American Idol is officially over.. it started with Taylor Hicks...I can't see any platinum albums by Melinda or Jordin. Blake can have success but he has ZERO range and will be stuck in one sound and vocally he is weak...all style no substance.

I don't get Melinda's "oomph"? She just always seems like some passive mouse to me for some reason.

Did anyone else see the calling for bands? Are they going to do an AI for bands now or did I just read into that wrong?

Regarding Jordin's super-religious stuff, I guess I missed a few episodes this season (which I have) so I'm not sure what that is all about, but I don't really have a problem with someone being all religious. Personally I'm not very religious at all, but if you think about it, we had to deal with Jessica Simpsons "I believe true love waits" stuff for at least a couple years before she got married.

As much as I enjoy AI...I think you're right.

risingstar 05-10-2007 09:39 AM

I agree...AI is over. It is really just a popularity contest. How in the world can someone say that Blake's voice is stronger than LaKisha's??? It has nothing to do with skill. The last couple of AI's were wack. And yes, the results show is blah...last 5 minutes for me too. Jordin is marketable. That's what this is about. She has the look and she's a model. Her voice is no where as strong as Melinda's. And Melinda has been consistent. All of her songs have been super strong. Jordin sings a lot of Celine Dion'ish songs, just like Haley did. Cabaret'ish, (as Simon would say). Jordin cannot belt a whole song. As passive as Melinda is, she may take this one. That meekness does rock my nerve, but she has the skill that AI SHOULD be looking for.

And YES!!!! It is a black woman's turn. Accept it.

And there are my 2 cents for the week.

irishpipes 05-10-2007 12:05 PM

Does anyone else see Blake having a future more as a producer than a performer? He is very creative but he just doesn't have much of a voice.

Sad to see LaKisha go but it was no surprise...

risingstar 05-10-2007 12:07 PM

Yeah, it was absolutely no surprise. I was dissapointed with her. She was not really concerned with winning though. Well, now she can go through the massive amount of contracts that's on the table for her.

Okay, for real, these are my two cents for the week.

Now, that's something I never even considered. He'd probably be great at producing based on what he's done on the show so far.

I still say if the boy would just shut up and sing, he's not too bad.

I think that's all a matter of perspective.

Personally, I didn't feel LaKisha was a fantastic singer. I was one of those who felt all she does is scream and belt out into a microphone. Other people think she sings great.

There was a time I thought Blake was pretty alright, but that feeling is pretty much gone for me too. Some people are really into his beat-boxing or whatever it's called.

I agree that the last idol (Taylor) is a complete failure, but Carrie Underwood (who I think won before he did?) is selling a phenomenal amount of CDs.

I do think that AI has lost it's sparkle, but mainly because the talent pool recently seems to have been running dry and several people in the last couple of seasons got record deals anyway. If this is a competition is to 'win a recording contract' and 2 or 3 people in the top 5 got record contracts anyway, what's the whole point? Just my .02 though

JWithers 05-10-2007 09:39 PM

I personally love Jordin. Her voice, her spirit, her look. And I think it's great that she is a woman of Faith. It's nice to see that in a young woman. Plus, I think her voice is amazing, and after all, it IS a singing competition.

Melinda is great, but not really a stand-out, and Blake, well, when he actually SINGS, I think he has a throaty quality that could make him a good singer, but great.

I say yea for Jordin! :)
