I HAVE BEEN WARNED TO SET MY AGE CORRECTLY BY WHAT APPEARS TO BE A FAKE TOM. I have no idea why this is in ALL CAPS but I really, really, seriously doubt that Tom or anybody else gives a rat's ass what my age is AND I REALLY AM 99, THANK YOU I JUST LOOK SUPER HOT FOR MY AGE.

Grr...

Has anyone been able to get into their MySpace messages tonight?

ETA: Well, 10 minutes later it appears to be working again.

Has ANYONE had the problem where it will tell you on your "home" page that you have new messages, so you click it and there are NO new messages?

I get that constantly, and at first I thought that it was just one of those kinks that they have to work out, but it had been happening a lot to me.

Put it this way...

I was looking at the MySpace General Support forums tonight and there's a band who has a music page and they haven't been able to access their messages for THREE MONTHS. Apparently they've got 22,000 or so friends...but they haven't been able to access their inbox at all and no one from MySpace has bothered contacting them back to resolve the situation.

At least you're not that band! :D

No, but I only get about half of the emails notifying me I have new messages or someone has posted on my board.

That happened to me today, except it was a friend request. Oh well, I doubt it was a legit request anyway.

Why is it so (*&@#$@# difficult to add people to the preferred readers list??? Why can't you just just select them from your friends list or something.

Do you have any idea how many people have the same display / name?? I don't email everyone, I send them messages on myspace... ARGHH.

I agree...that's why I don't update my MySpace blog too often...aaaaand I save my juicy stuff for my LJ.

My friends know that if they want to keep abreast of what's going on , they check the LJ. MySpace blog sucks, anyway.

JonInKC 10-16-2006 10:35 PM

According to the bulletins people keep sending me, Jesus is going to be ashamed of me before His Father because I don't repost those sappy bulletins every one keeps recycling. And he will say depart from me worker of iniquity, ye never reposted that cheesy thing about the old woman and the dying kitten, I never knew you." *HELLFIRE*

Bummer.

FYI: If you see a bulletin titled "MySpace Secret Area"...have some common sense and don't click on the link (unlike my friends). It's a sophisticated phishing attack..the bulletin doesn't even have a "Reply" button! My bulletin inbox is flooded with them now!

Same here. I have 2 random blogs on my myspace but post all my good stuff on lj.

If you ever get the New Message notification and you go to your inbox, only to find no new messages...I learned a neat little trick today.

Go to your PROFILE page and send yourself a message. When you get the New Message notification, click on it to get to your inbox. DO NOT DELETE message you sent yourself. Open it, and then click on 'NEXT' on the bottom to take you to the next new Unread message. Repeat until all unread msgs are read.

I kept getting that red envelope today but no new messages. It drove me nuts. I thought they fixed that bug already, but I guess not.

kdonline 10-25-2006 05:30 PM

It bothers me when people post surveys & FWDs in the bulletin area. That's what the blog area is for, IMO!

I also hate when friends use the bulletin area to spam their latest appearances. (I have a friend who is a DJ & he posts at least 5 bulletins a day.)

I wish there was a way I could block his bulletins. I want to keep him as a friend though..

Amen. I have a friend who posts Wal-Mart's new DVD releases every freaking Tuesday. I swear he has no life because he has this "Pix You Find on MySpace: [insert whatever here] edition" at least 3 times a day. There's that delete off friends list button, but I don't really want to delete him. You think with all the new "features" Tom and the gang have set up recently, they could at least make it so that my bulletin inbox isn't flooded with useless crap.

And I noticed something else today. BF & GF MySpaces drive me batshit insane. It's like, are you THAT co-dependent on each other that you totally have to give up your individual identity on MySpace? Do ALL your profile pictures have to be of the both of you? If I see another "Malu <3 Valerie" bulletin I really am going to delete them, I think.

OOH I hate to see those! Lame lame lame! When I used to be more active in the young adults' group at church, there were like five or six couples who shared each others email addresses.

texas*princess 10-25-2006 09:39 PM

I deleted a couple of people off my list b/c I got tired of the fact that they were drunk off the bulletin button.

FHwku 10-26-2006 02:19 PM

is there a way to organize your friends list?

i wanna say, "hi, what's up? how's your mom and them?" to people sometimes--without sifting through the random order. i don't know what page any of my friends are on in the list.

The closest thing you could probably do is take the top 24 people you want to write to and save them all as your Top 24, that way you can access their profiles easy. AFAIK, there's no way to arrange your friends list another way, as they're listed by join date.

RU OX Alum 10-27-2006 11:28 AM

Maybe people have your blog page bookmarked or are subscribed so they just go straight there instead of going to your profile first?

Fake navigation bars...FYI

Hey guys, my profile was just fine last night...and then this morning I noticed my navigation bar in my profile was a weird shade of blue. I clicked on 'HOME' and it took me to an error page, but it looks like it would have taken me to a fake login page had it worked (it was a script of some sort). Sure enough, I saw a bulletin about this, and when I went into my profile...the nasty crap was in there.

There is a nasty virus going around at the moment and if on your page its coming up with that active x box and/or your tool bar is highlighted, you've got it.

This is how you get rid of it. Please pass this on to your friends that have it and when you go to their page dont click okay on that box. You'll get it again. Keep checking your profile from time to time to see if it comes back, thats what I've been doing. Its such a pain in the butt.

There is now another myspace virus up on myspace again, it creates a fake nav bar that redirects you to an off site to steal your password.

First, when it asks you to login, make sure at the top in the address bar it says .. before you even type anything in. To remove the virus, first go to the bottom of your About Me section, and remove the part that is red.
http://spanky.aonservers.com/uploade...about%20me.jpg

It goes down more, it should be from that point all the way down remove it.<br><br>Also in your movies section remove...

http://spanky.aonservers.com/uploade...s/1/movies.jpg

Save your profile and try to stay off others until the virus has been removed.

............and if you see posts that you have not posted CHANGE PASSWORD ASAP!!!! (you should do this often just in case)

cutie_cat_4ever 12-04-2006 10:45 PM

Wow, thanks a lot. I'm totally new to myspace (facebook, xanga user :p ) but I don't quite get it how you can get virus from it. Is there like a loophole somewhere? Or does it automatically somehow infects your profile?

When people customize their MySpace pages, they often use codes they get from sites that can't be trusted. Oftentimes they put these codes in without even knowing it because most people aren't familiar with .css codes (Cascading Style Sheets) anyway. Most of these codes are Flash files that infect your page when you visit those infected pages.

You visit the infected page, then the virus finds its way to your profile, and the cycle is repeated the next time someone visits your page.

ETA: Here's an article about the worm.

AUDeltaGam 12-04-2006 11:02 PM

Thanks for telling us about this virus! I checked my profile, and saw that I had the weird toolbar, so I was able to remove it. Thanks again :)

Google's on every page now, I think. They're probably major MySpace sponsors now.

Just pay attention to the URL each time you login and make sure that it's a real MySpace login page. If you're unsure, just type in www.myspace.com and log in again from there.

I just checked, and I couldn't be bothered to look through all my HTML codes to look. So I just got rid of it all, and will add it in later.

I'm so lazy somtimes it kills me.

MySpace Tool to Help Block Sex Offenders

NEW YORK - MySpace, the popular online hangout that has drawn complaints about sexual predators and other dangers to teens, said Tuesday it will develop technologies to help block convicted sex offenders.
MySpace is partnering with Sentinel Tech Holding Corp. to build a database containing names, physical descriptions and other identifiable details on sex offenders in the United States. The News Corp. site, however, stopped short of adopting Sentinel's technology for verifying the ages and identities of its users.

Rest of story here.

That sounds like a great thing. I'm not exactly sure what the Sentinel Tech is all about and how it works by identifying ages and such while you can type in false info.

I personally feel the best way is that if a person applies for internet, the internet company has to screen and do a background check. And if found that person is a sex offender, his/her IP will be automatically restricted and not allowed on certain websites. Of course that won't help if the person uses their friend's computer...

Or maybe implant a chip into their body and whenever they are near a computer it automatically shuts down? Ummm...I'm thinking too much...

I hope it works, but after all, the myspace user has to protect themselves by locking it to friends only and carefully adding people.

That's all fine and dandy but what happens when it's a false statutory rape case? A guy I was friends with from 2nd grade to graduation got accused of stat rape by his girlfriends parents because they didn't like him. Now he's a sex offender. Should he be banned because he was an 18 yr old boy having sex with his freshman (or soph?) girlfriend and his parents wanted revenge? There would have to be a detailed description of what would be cause for banning. If there were, I'd be totally for it.

texas*princess 12-14-2006 08:20 PM

Is Myspace being crazy with a server issue or did someone hack into my account and make it all crazy? :(

I'm hoping it's the first one because it's nuts and I can't log in right now!
