He was an 80's wrestler. Around the same time as Andre The Giant and the rest of them. :)

I wonder if people actually read this thing from the beginning?

It's amazing the kind of information you can get just by taking the time to read it from the beginning.

And then it'll be repeated 32452903487239847 times by people who don't read threads from the beginning.

Just a thought.

Awesome! Always good to hear about Brothers that are good people and good Christians! Congrats on all the Free Sandwiches! I think it would be awesome if Pikes got a Chick-fil-a discount or something for being his Brother! Don't see that happening, though, and can't say I blame him, there are a lot of us out there.

Truett Cathey?

I'd never heard of Truett Cathey being a college graduate.

Is he an honorary initiate of PiKA?

kristi 06-19-2004 01:04 AM

I've heard things about Laurie Hickson Smith (Trading Spaces) being KKG -- any info regarding her? :)

Yep, Truett Cathey is an honorary initiate of Pi Kappa Alpha, and in our fraternity, that makes him a full-blown Brother. Check out: http://pikes.org/wppcath.html for more info on him.

Laurie is a Kappa from Texas. She confirmed it in the DG ep during season 2, and sang a little bit of a Kappa Rush song from her chapter.

According to www.imdb.com Robin Weisman who played the little girl in "3 Men and a Little Lady" is a Delta Phi Epsilon.

There's also a KKG badge in the Smithsonian in the exhibit on first ladies...I'm not sure whom it belongs to, but I'm betting one of the GC KKGs does.

Our current Universiy President, Gregory Geoffroy, is a TKE and goes out of his way with courtesy to the student body, student organizations and the greek community- a 180 turn-around from the dark days of Jischke.

I thought this was just a rumor. I've looked and haven't seen then. Does anyone know if they are really there, and if so, where?

I know our new member manual says that our badge was boted most beautiful and is on display and that ours is on the moon, but those have been said to just be rumors. If they are, I wish they'd take them out of the manual.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 06-29-2004 12:09 PM

OK. To clear this up again:

(1) your badge is not on the moon. There are no badges actually on the moon.
(2) Your badge may well have gone into *space.* I know Sigma Kappa had a badge go into space, and -- which shuttle was it that burned on reentry? -- a GPhiB recently was IN space.

Where're you getting this "our badge was voted the most beautiful" business? Who voted? Where? When?

Anyone know if his brother, Dr. Roger, PhD, retired professor of University of Iowa, is a greek?

HotDamnImAPhiMu 06-29-2004 12:16 PM

PS - not to say I think ours is. It certainly holds first place in my heart :) but as for most beautiful sorority badge, I think I'd have to include on the list...

KD's diamond
ADP's diamond
KAQ's triangle
SSS's triangle
SK's triangle
SSS's triangle
KKG's key
PBF's arrow

though I love the badges that are the org's secret letters on top of each other (like CW, AF, AGD, AOP) because they're so symbolic.

ADPiSAI 06-29-2004 12:26 PM

I was reading an article in the newest issue of Elle about Campbell Brown, the news anchor... It said that she was involved in the "sorority scene at Louisiana State" for two years before transferring to Regis College. Anyone know her affiliation?

IowaStatePhiPsi 06-29-2004 12:31 PM

reading about all the things about Kappa Alpha Theta makes me glad they're the neighbors to Phi Psi at Iowa State.

And Katie Couric a Tri-Delt- you can tell by her personality. :)

I know I heard all during our new member period that ours was voted most beautiful, but somehow I think it's just a rumor. I have no clue who would have voted or anything, because I think every badge is the most beautiful to its own members. I just wish that our nationals or someone would stop circulating the badge on the moon and the most beautiful badge rumors.

there's several threads on this topic somewhere on GC.

our nationals does NOT circulate these rumors, chapters do. i got a letter and photocopy of an article about the space trip FROM nationals and i guarantee there's no pin of ours on the moon. it's the sisters who need to stop spreading this crap because they just sound ignorant doing it.

(not an attack on you--i get heated when the moon thing gets brought up--check some of my other posts ;) )

Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Phi both claim Sandra Bullock as part of their chapter.....it's unclear which she joined but she dropped out of school (East Carolina University) with one semester left to go

Ok OK...chiming in here..and perhaps shedding some light on this discussion.

IN YEARS PAST...LONG LONG AGO, in a jewelry manufacturing facility of distant memory.....

Jewelry companies would VOTE (or however they decide) which badge the jewelers of the moment thought was most "artistic, beautiful....easy to make and thus most profitable" or whatever. Generally a different badge would be selected easy year :). SO, perhaps ALL of our badges were the most beautiful to some gold pouring person at some time. What matters most is that they are the most beautiful to EACH OF US :)

In any event, I'm surprized Apollo XI ever got off the ground with that many sorority badges on board.

I'm pretty positive that she was an AXO but have been told from nationals people that the badge thing on the moon is an urban legend. There's nothing on the flag on the moon.

Famous Local Greeks

We've had a few notable members of Sigma Psi, but the most famous are:

Martha Powers (1963) - Novelist

Florence Ellinwood Allen (1902)- Suffragist, First Women Elected to a Judicial Position in the U.S. , First Female State Supreme Court Justice (Ohio), First Women Appointed a Federal Bench
Can you tell I'm proud of her?

i'm such a nerd, but i searched for the answer because i didn't think sandy was in a sorority. and she wasn't.
from an interview with her:

Were you into the fraternity/sorority scene when you were in college?

I was a little sister for the worst fraternity in the school that's now been condemned.

Tell me a nightmare frat party story.

I only have one. This guy that I really liked and I were drinking 'Shake Em Ups' which is Thunderbird and grapefruit juice. I don't remember anything that happened and apparently I was sick in front of him, on him, and beside him. He had to drag me to my dorm room and I didn't hear from him for a week. I was like, "This is just the worst" and then he called me and we dated almost two years.

Re: Re: Famous Greeks

MysticCat I mean nothing by this but you should have Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Nationals call the Professional Fraternity Association and rescend their membership, and also they should change their joint-statement with Kappa Kappa Psi, since the last paragraph is as quoted

Quote:

PHI MU ALPHA is neither an honor nor a recognition society. We are an active professional fraternity as defined by the Professional Fraternity Association of which we are participating members.

I was told when I was a freshman (joined in fall/01) that Michelle Kwan went through informal spring rush in 2001, got bids from all the houses she visited, but didn't join a house. She had a good friend in Gamma Phi who was a senior when I was a freshman, and apparently (probably exaggerated) she was told by Michelle that the only house she was seriously considering was ours, but she decided she was going to redouble her efforts for the Olympics. From what I've heard, she hasn't graduated UCLA; perhaps she's transferred, or just hasn't completed the units yet.
