Judging by many rec forms I've seen, I think this is generally true for most NPC groups. The forms tend to be pretty clear that the alumna rec writer shouldn't expect any information during recruitment, shouldn't contact the chapter to give added input or attempt to influence the process, shouldn't expect to be told what happened to the PNM during the process, etc. |
Ladies,
The involvement of alumnae in membership selection is part of membership selection. This is an area we do not discuss on this board. We need to stop this discussion now. Thank you. |

Some of the girls who have already narrowed their options will be all right, just about 200 - 350 of them. Those PNMs already know a bunch of people in those houses and have been to camp and cotillion with those girls. They will make their debuts at the same debutante societies, and are likely legacies multiple times over. Those favored few chapters will not be likely to ever participate in COB or Spring Informal recruitment as they push their fourth and fifth year members out the door to make room for the next class. Those same favored chapters are very reluctant to take sophomores, so dropping out and re-rushing next year is unlikely to make a difference for a choosy PNM. The rest of the PNMs need to keep an open mind if they want the Greek experience. Everyday, when the PNM gets her invitations back, the chapters that invited her are the ONLY ones on that campus for that PNM. A chapter has indicated an interest in getting to know that PNM better, and she should be very grateful. Sadly not everyone can be an Ole Miss Greek, but keeping an open mind makes it a possibility. Every PNM class is nearly big enough at Ole Miss to change the entire personality of a chapter. So, if you don't like what you see now, stick around and "Be The Change You Want To See." Best Wishes and Good Luck To All the Ole Miss PNMs! ^^^^^^^ This is quite possibly the best advice I have ever seen for a PNM at Ole Miss, or anywhere else for that matter. When my daughter was a PNM at Ole Miss last year, these were points that we emphasized. She LOVES her GLO, but still concedes that recruitment was very stressful. PNMs would be very wise to heed this sage advice. Have a great recruitment! :) |
OK, folks. Methinks we've beaten poor Ole Miss, their sororities and their alumnae to a fare thee well. Who's involved in their membership selection, or anyone's for that matter, and when any bid list is done really isn't any of our business here on GC. Let's move on before the thread gets shut down. It would behoove us all to be reasonable.
Thanks (notice very slight flounce as I take my leave) |
Is it possible that quota/chapter total could be set lower due to ADPi's colonization?
|

Rebelpnm, don't concern yourself with quota/total There will be a place for you if you have your ducks in a row. Worry about presenting your best self. That's all you can do. But generally, no, quota is not lowered when there is a colonization coming. And total isn't looked at till after the colonization so that's not relevant. |
I will! Thank you!

And my silver pattern is Francis the First (dinner size.) |
Really? Francis I????? That trumps my Old Maryland Engraved....
|
MP, oh, Dear Lord, that's my Blue Blood Mother's pattern! Mine is Wallace Grand Baroque, so she's skipping a generation and giving hers to her namesake who happens to be getting married in June!
|
My Mama is a Buttercup, like my Grandmother before, and the Great Grandmother before her. My Aunt, my Mother's elder Sister decided I would be FTF, like her, since she had no daughters, and Mama had no say in it, nor did I since I had just been born. Almost sounds like GOT, doesn't it?
|
Even some of us Yankee gals get the same silver patterns as our Mamas and Grandmothers...International Prelude in my case. ;)
|
I might be a Yankee but I too will one day be a Wallace Grand Baroque girl. My mother (she has it currently) was actually shocked when she found out I wanted my grandmother's silver. I still don't understand why she ever thought I wouldn't want it. What was she going to do, sell it
|
Well, it is worth a lot of money! When I saw the price for my silver goblets on Replacements, Inc, I almost sold them! $350 x 5.....hmmm...
And my sister had Grand Baroque but then got our grandmother's silver (I already had mine). It's an odd, sort of long discontinued pattern - Manchester by Manchester.... Anyone with Chantilly?????? |

I started with Eloquence (Lunt), but I'm seriously thinking of switching out to Grande Baroque. There's so many extra items available in Grande Baroque!
|
Any other Burgundy belles here?
This is fun - I don't recall this topic coming up before on GC. Perhaps we should start a thread? |
Years ago, and I think it was in an earlier incarnation of GreekChat, there was a china and silver thread in Chit Chat. Maybe it needs to be found, or a new one started?
|
Man, I put my mother on strict orders, no silver, but more importantly NO CHRISTMAS CHINA. I have Villeroy and Boch dishes, and I drink every day out of my crystal. I am not a believer in saving stuff for "special." But my Mom has Lenox china, including the Christmas. One of my sisters has Waechtersbach (hate it!) and one has Spode (love it, but there's no way I'm investing that much in dishes you use once, maybe twice a year).
All of you who do have your real silver and good china, pull that stuff out of the cabinet and USE IT. Thursday is reason enough to celebrate. On an interesting note, at the travel agency I used to work at, the silverware in the office kitchen was actual silver. Leave it to an agency in Newport Beach to use real silver in the office kitchen :O |
So um how about that 75 yard run?
|
Well, I use my silver and crystal and good china pretty regularly. Love my Waterford - Lismore, of course.
And I set my dining table with my Spode Christmas Tree china after Thanksgiving and leave it up till after Christmas. Lovely decoration. |

http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/31...amm_medium.gif That's Channing Ward, not Jeff Scott who made the 75 yard run, but it's the same game. One of my friends is going to name her first born Jeff Scott, regardless of gender she says! |
Holy Crap that 75 yard run followed by that SWEET interception my poor husband didn't think he was going to get me to go to bed afterwards I was so excited! Hotty Toddy! LOVE LOVE LOVE this discussion--- I am a Gorham Fairfax girl- but only because it was my husbands grandmothers pattern and she left ALL of her silver to him when she died.. so I have full service for 28! My mother was a Francis I girl and was a little miffed I didn't go with hers, but understood the importance of having enough full settings for everyone!
Agree with DubaiSis- USE YOUR STUFF- life's too short!!! I use my good stuff as much as I can- LOVE LOVE LOVE my waterford Ballymore crystal, I did Villeroy and Bosch as my everyday and then my mother and I got into a fight over my fine so I have one Lenox pattern (hers) and one Wedgewood that compliments it :-) and YES I do have Christmas china as well...(of course! :-) ) Sorry I am something of a place-setting 'ho (I love the stuff).... none of my "yankee" in-laws understand (and I think my SIL's thought I was being 'pretentious' with my registry)-- oh well it's a "southern thing" |
WOO HOO and HOTTY TODDY MP!!!! Awesome video insert! How did you do it???

Hotty Toddy is right!
Wallace Washington with K's on each piece...my sister has Chantilly that was my grandmother's...and my mom has Chantilly too that was her mother's....I did register for Bucccellati Empire but I ended up just sticking with the Wallace Washington since my great aunt's set is enough for 20 people! I figure I can always borrow my mom's since she lives a mile from me now. While the Wallace is a little plain for my taste I love that it has K's on them. They look very pretty with my Haviland Val De Loire china and my Waterford Clarendon. My sister's china is fabulous Mottahedeh Tobacco Leaf! My mom said she always regretted not picking out what she wanted. So I picked out exactly what I wanted with a little help from her! ETA: I forgot I have my grandmother's Lenox Wheat pattern from the 1940s. It's a lovely pattern and of course no one else wanted it so the AOII in me had to take it! Thank goodness her service for 18 fits in my sideboard with my Haviland. My house is not big and I didn't want to see it go up in the attic. |
Thanks, OldOleMiss!! Too funny!
|
Love that Tobacco Leaf pattern - my cousin has it.
|
|
This is the SWEETEST run I have ever seen!!! What a fabulous way to start the season :D
And as for china & silver... I feel like such a heathen! I have just 1 china service (Lenox Liberty) and I can't even remember the name of the silver pattern that I inherited from my grandmother. I should try to find out what it is. |
