Erik P. Conard has constantly shown that he's is a racist, sexist, wannabe elitist who can't deal with the 21st Century. He bashes anything and everything that doesn't fit into his ideal of a "Fraternity." In this, he bashes a FRATERNITY that you claim to be a member of constantly and you support him. I truly wonder if you understand the cardinal values of leadership, friendship, and service. In supporting such a bigot, you show nothing of leadership, nothing of friendship to your fellow brothers and other members of GC, and a lack of service by endorsing what Conard believes. You are a disgrace to Alpha Phi Omega. |

... there is no such thing as "Georgia Tech University"!!! Sorry, I had to express that. No one can ever seem to get the name of my school right, and it's not that hard (I mean, "Georgia Institute of Technology" sounds so much nicer, really). So yeah, to actually say something on topic ... yeah, some of our Pikes are insensitive jerks (not all of them ... but some have been known to, for example, chase and throw things at gay couples, etc.). But one of the interesting things about the "NIC" fraternities is that they can be completely one way on one campus and pretty much completely different on another. So I really hope that students at Howard won't just judge PiKA in general from our idiot students and their stupid party :( Oh, and not all historically white fraternities and sororities have had "whites only" clauses. I know that my fiance's fraternity, Phi Kappa Sigma, has never had one. This is from their international website: Public Mottos "Brotherhood is more than skin deep." In 1858, a proposal was introduced to the Fraternity that would have made Phi Kappa Sigma an all-white organization. The proposal was unanimously voted against, therefore making the Fraternity the first to be anti-discriminatory. Our Brothers choose men to become members based on the worth of their character, not superficialities like race, religion, or wealth. (This is may have something to do with why they are one of the smaller and less popular fraternities in the country, but y'know, that's how it goes ...) |

I don't think I've ever been on the same thread as Tom Earp, but reading his responses here easily demonstrates that he deserves to be browbeaten for his antiquated POV. His ignorant statements exemplify the negativity that surrounds Greekdom, and I'm proud that two of his own brothers can see it. Most of GC can see it. If you can't see it, then that tells us a lot about you. Bless your heart. Back to the Pikes at Howard: I hope the colonization goes well for them. They will not be happily accepted by 100% of HU's population because new NPHC colonies/chapters are not always 100% accepted by the current NPHC chapters already on campus. (I've never seen it with my own eyes, but I have received firsthand accounts from older members.) The chapter will either flourish over the years, or it will putter out after the brothers of the colony graduate. Only time will tell. It's too bad that people won't wait to see if the Howard colony will make a great name for Pike based on their actions and reputation. I wish we could get an update (or a blog!) from one of the HU Pikes.... :( OPhiARen3: I saw the ubiquitous "Georgia Tech University", and I was upset as a Georgian. I just couldn't point it out on GC as a proud Bulldog. :p |

GC is also a good microcosm of what is so excellent and DIVINE ;) about Greekdom. *contented sigh* |

Thanks for that grammar lesson. However, I would think the Georgia State Education System would teach you that y'all is incorrect grammar and used primarily in the South, informally to address a group. If you were being grammar specific you would not contract "you all" into the slang y'all. I think "y'all" might come under the more North Easterly "youse guys" or the Western non-gender-specific "guys." |

B. Dr. Zeigler at Georgia State University taught me that "y'all" is dialect. It's one of many words/phrases that is a widely accepted as part of SOUTHERN dialect, which is widely used all over the South. I teach my students that "non-standard English" and dialect are fine and dandy at home and in familiar circumstances, but attempt to keep it out of the classroom and your future workplace(s). C. Aren't you on a message board? When did discussions on here become FORMAL? I just wanted to point out that you shouldn't poke fun at others when you cannot master the spelling of a word with 4 letters and a punctuation mark because you didn't pay attention to your first grade lessons on how to make contractions.
