Here's one you will NOT believe

The following excerpt was a copy of an email printed in Ken Hamblin's book "Pick a Better Country", pg. 49:

True story to relay to you - my daughter (in Germany) did financial counseling for the Army and had a Black couple come in for help. In gathering information, she asked for the name of their child. She was told (phonetic spelling) Shi-tea-add. Assuming it was an African ethnic name, she asked for the spelling, and this you may not believe: but it is S-h-i-t-h-e-a-d! I find it incomprehensible that anyone would do that to their child, what an awful thing to live with! I swear this story is true!

Oh my dayums. . .that poor baby and standardized tests, first day of school attendance, etc. etc. etc.

Can you imagine her wedding invitiations and graduation announcements?!?!!?!

You know how when your mom gets mad at you and calls you by your full gubmint and pronounces EACH and EVERY SYLLABLE!!! By the time her mama calls her, she might forget what she was mad about!!!!! :o

Her mother either had one hell of an epidural or speaks in tongues. :o

Dad always had the best ones though...a couple years ago he came home after the first day of class and had this great story:

He's reading the roll call with a new class, making sure he knows how to pronounce everyone's name, filling out the seating chart, etc. Normal routine, no big deal. He's about 1/2 way done and he sees this one name that makes him pause. He has no idea what to say for the first name, so he just says her last name, "Miss Smith?"

The young lady stands up and says, "Mr. _____, my name is Sha-Theed!"

My dad just says okay and jots down the pronounciation next to:

Sh*thead Smith

Dad showed me his class roster - the name was actually spelled S-H-!-T-H-E-A-D.
LHM!!!!!!!

A soror here works in one of the clinic in the city and besides often not being able to pronounce the choldren's name, her biggest pet peeve are the parents who either cuss her out if she gets it worng or who, when asked how do you pronounce his/her name, answer "I don't know." Didn't YOU give them that name in the first place?? SASAS!

I see this all the time when I sub in the city schools. The kids get upset with me because I sometimes mispronounce their names but then they get all huffy and puffy when I ask for help in pronouncing it. Like I'm supposed to know how to pronounce these tounge-twisters!

I have been LMAO reading this thread!

Oh hayle to the naw! I got some cousins who have given their kids some GHETTO-FIED names. They wanted the names to be African. Well jeez, go buy an African name book so you 1. know how to pronounce the name and most importantly YOU KNOW WHAT THE NAME MEANS!

Funny I was talking to my hairstylist (WHO IS FROM AFRICA) and she was trippin about the whacked names that folx here give their kids.

The funniest one was someone naming their kid "LaTrine". HELLO?! Do you know what a latrine is? Did you name her that because she stunk all the time?
